Juneau | Douglas, AK | The 2016 Juneau Alaska NDEW Event was an awesome success with over 40 EV's to include Teslas, Leafs, Fords, modified and Alaska's First Electric Bus were present for the event. Total mileage of participating vehicles was over 500,000 EV miles which is incredible since Juneau only had 7 EV's three years ago. Now Juneau is over 80 electric vehicles and is one of the fastest EV growing communities with one of the highest per capita EV communities in the US. The event attracted dozens of individuals and families interested in purchasing an EV and a large number of test rides and and drives were provided to the interested public. Hot dogs, chips and refreshments provided by Juneau Hydropower. Literature on EV's provided by Plug in America along with detailed maps showing where Juneau's public charging stations are located were a big hit with the public. The event was sponsored by the Juneau Chapter of Electric Vehicle Association which had aerial drone EV on site for pictures. |
Huntsville | Huntsville, AL | http://whnt.com/2016/09/17/electric-cars-more-appealing-as-gas-shortage-conversation-continues/ |
Little Rock | Little Rock, AR | We held the event in front of the Whole Foods Market in Little Rock. We wanted to take advantage of the foot traffic. We had 3 dealerships participate: Nissan Leaf, Chevrolet Volt and Volvo XC90. In addition we had 16 current EV drivers show up with their vehicles to talk to the public about their experience driving electric. There were 6 Tesla, 1 Chevrolet Volt, 1 Ford Focus, and 8 Nissan Leaf owners present. We consider the event a success as we were able to talk to the dealerships about bidding to get their vehicles on the state contract for state government fleets. |
Scottsdale | Scottsdale, AZ | We have our event at McDonald's, Scottsdale Pavilions, Scottsdale, AZ. It it the longest running car show in AZ; open for car displays every Saturday year round. We make reservations each year for the event and they graciously accommodate us. The weekly car show attracts thousands of car enthusiasts so we always have plenty of spectators.I recommend other organizations to display at on-going car shows since the hard work is already done and spectators are plentiful. This year we had 49 entries from home built conversions to Teslas and everything in between. Once everyone was parked and placards filled and placed, it was smooth going. Can't wait till next year. |
Tucson | Tucson, AZ | The 2nd Saturday street fair was a perfect place for NDEW 2016. The Tucson Electric Vehicle Association (TEVA) made a big splash. Over 550 people went through our booth and at least 150 people got to experience what it was like to plug in an EV for the first time!! Amazing results. We will do it again next year for sure. |
Tucson | Tucson, AZ | Movie showing of "Revenge of the Electric Car" and a Panel Discussion on how to "Plug in Your Next Car." |
Bakersfield | Bakersfield, CA | This was the 4th year we've done an EV event in Bakersfield, CA. It keeps growing every year. The PEV Collaborative was in Bakersfield, Calif., Sept. 11 during National Drive Electric Week, bringing its 2016 Best. Ride. EVer! campaign to the Park at River Walk. Results: - 96 test drives - Makes/models available for test drive: Nissan LEAF (3); BMW i3, i8 and X5 xDrive40e; and FIAT 500e (2) - The BMW i8 was a big draw – attendees drove it, rode in it and took photos with it all day long - 48% of respondents had no previous experience with EVs - Prior to the drive, 64% of respondents had a very or somewhat positive perception of EVs, increasing to 96% after the ride - 64% of respondents said they were very or somewhat likely to consider buying an EV before driving one; 87% said the same after driving one Partners: Kern Council of Governments San Joaquin Valley Electric Vehicle Partnership Project Clean Air EVPerks.com |
Benicia | Benicia, CA | We were in a Farmers Market and had a steady stream of people asking questions and looking at the vehicles. We could not give test drives because of our location. However, we were able to expose new people to electric vehicles. There were also several divers outside of the market who were able to talk to each other and there was an electric pedicab giving rides. The local newspaper, the Benicia Herald, also ran a front page article about the event and about driving electric. |
Cupertino | Cupertino, CA | The 44th EV Rally and Show brought together a wide range of people who share an interest in electric vehicle technology. The ride-and-drive experience of hearing about new electric cars from their owners is very popular. There is also a group of enthusiasts who work on electric vehicle conversions and those who develop original designs. Both solar power and sustainable transportation are also key parts of the rally. Perhaps this comment best describes the event: “This was a blast, and I learned a lot. Let me know if there is another coming up or something like it.” Thanks to Mayor Barry Chang of Cupertino for reading a proclamation in support of Drive Electric Week, to the Monta Vista High School Robotics Team, to Nissan for hosting the “Nissan Lounge” with their vehicle-to-home power system. This event would not have been possible without the tireless planning, preparation, and encouragement of Jerry Pohorsky, Ron Freund, Susan Parks and Ben White. Report submitted by Kent Okasaki. |
Diamond Bar | Diamond Bar, CA | The South Coast Air Quality Management District sponsored and hosted our 4th annual National Drive Electric Week Event, and we are all very appreciative of their continued support. Our forum included presentations from Lisa Mirisola of SCAQMD,Rachel Moses from Green Lots, Joshua Goldman from Trans Power, Jim McCarthy from EVAOSC. Thanks to Nissan for the assistance of evom Carlos and the Nissan Kit, SCAQMD donated an Electric lawn mower to a well received door prize drawing. Puente Hills Nissan and Crevier BMW each brought 2 EV's and gave very popular ride and drives. Of the many booths, we had EAA, Sierra Club, and Plug In America hosted by Linda Nichols. SCAQMD donated 2 of the original small paddle chargers,(EV1 and RAV 4) that were replaced by the first new level 2 chargers at their site, to the Automobile Driving Museum. We had strong support from the student Volunteers of Diamond Bar For Youth, as well as new supporters from the NDEW site regis., and our EVAOSC members. |
Goleta | Goleta, CA | Community Environmental Council organized an electric car show near the Sunday Farmer’s Market at Camino Real Marketplace in Goleta. The car show ran from 10 am to 2 pm. A total of 19 EVs were on display. Three of these vehicles were brought to the event by dealerships and the rest were brought by EV drivers. Owners stayed with their vehicles during the event and spoke with shoppers about driving electric.Based on our event tracking, we estimate that there attendance was 4 times higher than last year's event. Staff from California Assemblymember Das William's office attended. The Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District partnered with us for the event and did a great job of getting local media outlets to provide coverage. EVMatch, a local start-up offering an Air BnB-style sharing service for EV chargers, also tabled at the event. |
Long Beach | Long Beach, CA | I didn't count how many cars signed up, both Tesla Clubs I belong to showed up, but many hadn't signed up. As Marta can tell you we were way too busy to count cars or rides. We started on time, finished on time, had good attendance despite a regional huge music event and ComicCon happening downtown - those hurt us. The politicians said good things about EVs, and as if to illustrate my point about clean/quiet electric commercial lawncare some jagoff fired up a leaf blower way down the block and it was loud enough to make it difficult to hear Janice Hahn even with a PA system. Elected officials tweeted their pix on the electric bus or my electric motorcycle. Volunteers and drivers posted their pix in our Tshirt on social media. When I dropped by the little EV-ent in Watts the next day people were talking about the electric mower I gave away. Maybe that stuff'll inspire them to find my EV-ent wherever it is next year. Lots of people asked for it to be in OC or Cerritos. |
Los Angeles | Los Angeles, CA | 922 people registered, and we reached 1,101 followers on our event FaceBook page, estimate that over 1,500 people attended. The crowd flow was consistent all day, with the busy areas being the test drives and food trucks.Speakers Nancy Sutley introduces Mary Nichols, Chairman of the California Air Resources Board; Michelle Kinman, Clean Energy Advocate, Environment California; and Susana M. Reyes Sustainability Team - Office of L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti and Sierra Club Board Member. BMW (4) 111 KIA (4) 106 VW (2) 60 Chevy (2) 76 Nissan (2) 74 Fiat (3) 100 In addition, Green Commuter offered rides to over 60 people in their Tesla Model X, and we gave out 1,040 vouchers worth $5.00 each to people that rode along on the test drives from the OEMs. |
Watts | Los Angeles, CA | The event was the result of about 3 months of organizing in Watts, during which time the remarkable Mike Chattom, known locally as "Big Mike," escorted me into numerous situations in Watts I never would have gotten into without him. I attended numerous church services, prayer meetings and Bible study classes where I was lovingly received and allowed to briefly present about the event. We were enthusiastically supported by the Watts Neighborhood Council, and engaged with the Watts Gang TaskForce and Much 62, an organization focussed on mass incarceration. We were given enormous support by Councilman Joe Buscaino's office and by the LA Department of Water & Power, who used the event to announce 6 new car chargers scheduled for installation in the community in the next 2 months. Crucial participation came from Downey Nissan and Anaheim Pre-Owned Cars. Neighborhood youth showed high interest. |
Monterey | Monterey, CA | This was our first event hosted in the City of Monterey after four years in Santa Cruz County. We provided test drives (including electric bikes, an electric vehicle display, and hosted one of the largest displays of mini-replica solar electric cars built by students. |
Morro Bay | Morro Bay, CA | Morro Bay Mayoral candidate Betty Winholtz and Planning Commissioner Richard Sadowski covered by the San Luis Obispo Tribune newspaper should be in this sat business section (http://www.sanluisobispo.com/) Note: we did the first electric drive through ever done at Starbucks Los Osos |
Marin County | Novato, CA | We considered the event to be successful. Most of the attendees were seriously interested in leasing/buying an electric car. The event was held in a very busy shopping center so a considerable number of passersby stopped to look at the cars and take test drives. The Nissan LEAF, BMW i3, smart electric drive, Mercedes B-Class, and Kia dealers were most helpful in offering test drives. VW and Ford only came reluctantly for a short time. The Fiat dealer refused to bring the Fiat 500e. The Chevy dealer was asked to bring a Chevy Spark EV, but brought a Volt instead and ran the gas engine to charge the car. We usually do not allow any cars with gas engines at our events, even if they are plug in hybrids. The event was sponsored by the Transportation Authority of Marin using license plate fees earmarked to promote alternate fuel vehicles, PG&E (local electric utility), and MCE Clean Energy (local Community Choice Aggregation electricity provider). Dealers did not have to pay. |
Oxnard | Oxnard, CA | On a beautiful sunny day overlooking the Channel Islands Harbor in Southern California, a crowd of approximately 400 people viewed all-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles being exhibited by private owners and dealers. Among current models, 10 separate vehicles were represented with 27 total vehicles. Included in the display were two vehicles converted to all battery electric--a 1957 Mercedes 190SL and a Volkswagen Beetle. Also were a 1958 Sport Rider, one of the first street-legal all-electric vehicles available in the United States, an Elf, and a GEM 825. A county Air Pollution Control District representative was present distributing discount vouchers to residents wanting to purchase or lease new EVs or PHEVs at steep discounts under a local government subsidy program. As a result of this NDEW exhibition and the available government discount program, at least two people purchased a new Mercedes B250 all-electric sedan and others showed a sincere interest to buy an EV/PHEV. |
Palo Alto | Palo Alto, CA | On Sunday, September 18, Acterra and ProjectGreenHome.org hosted a festive gathering of electric vehicles, exhibitors, EV enthusiasts, and prospective owners in celebration of National Drive Electric Week. Attendees had the opportunity to view popular brands in a fun, no-pressure environment, talk to EV experts, and discover the “delightful driving experience” first-hand by test driving various models. Palo Alto Mayor Pat Burt and Assemblymember Rich Gordon joined in the fun by demonstrating how to “cut the gasoline cord.” By the end of the day, a total of 210 demo rides were provided, and all participants went home with an EV grin. Electric vehicle adoption is integral to shifting from fossil fuels to a renewable energy economy. Through hands-on events such as these, more individuals can visualize an electric vehicle in their future. Thanks to all the EV trailblazers who are helping make this future possible! |
Richmond | Richmond, CA | The City of Richmond planned this event in collaboration with the Ecology Center and the Cities of El Cerrito and Albany. This year, Hanlees Hilltop, Albany Ford, Fiat of Concord all attended and showcased electric vehicles and offered test drives. Various electric vehicle models were present to include Fiat 500e, Chevy Spark, Ford C-MAX Energi, Ford Fusion Energi, Hyundai Sonata Plug-In, Volkswagen eGolf, and more. Proterra, Inc. was present and showcased their 40-ft Catalyst zero emission, all electric bus. Attendees also had an opportunity to visit informational tables to learn about electric vehicles, charging and financial incentives. Tables were hosted by 511 Contra Costa, Sierra Club, Ecology Center, Community Housing Development Corporation, Center for Sustainable Energy, and Chargepoint. This event provided an opportunity for the community to test drive and speak to electric vehicle owners about their ownership experience and learn ways to finance their next EV! |
Sacramento | Sacramento, CA | Morning of media coverage by our most watched regional TV station with interviews and cars shown. Actually we staged TWO separate events, one from 10 am to 2 pm in Folsom and the more major event from 4pm to 8 pm on "auto row" in Sacramento along with a classic car CruiseFest co-sponsored by the our local electric utility (SMUD) and the California Auto Museum. |
Sacramento | Sacramento, CA | A special thank you to the Sacramento Electric Vehicle Assn who showed up with about 20 cars! The event featured speakers from the hotel, GridRabbit, Clipper Creek, Phil Haupt Electric and SacEV, and the highlight was the cutting of the gas hose(instead of the traditional ribbon). Great media coverage from KCRA Channel 3, the Sacramento Bee and the Sacramento Business Journal. |
San Diego | San Diego, CA | SDG&E’s fourth annual Electric Vehicle Day saw the largest gathering of electric cars in the San Diego region’s history with 1,100 people attending and 792 test drives in the latest electric drive transportation technology. More than 165 local electric vehicle drivers had the opportunity to bring their own cars to the event, put them on display, and network with fellow residents interested in driving the cars. SDG&E hosted the event as part of National Drive Electric Week and along with Center for Sustainable Energy, Cleantech San Diego, Plug-in America, Sierra Club, and the Electric Auto Association, and provided information on Power Your Drive, electric vehicle rates, incentives and charging. |
San Francisco | San Francisco, CA | Our event was part of a long-established community festival. So we had a build in audience of families in the community. This was the first year we held the NDEW test drives with the festival and people were pleasantly surprised and enthusiastic. We had one City Supervisor and two State Assemblymen at the event. The feel was very warm, relaxed, community-oriented, which made for a great time. |
San Mateo | San Mateo, CA | It was a relaxing place to learn new things and meet with people. A local TV station, KRON, reported about the event on their news that evening and mentioned the other 3 upcoming NDEW events in the area. |
Solvang | Solvang, CA | Mayor of Solvang, California, Jim Richardson, owner of a Chevy Volt attended. He told us his City Council adopted a clean air, clean vehicle campaign that resulted in the first installation of charge stations in Santa Barbara County. Santa Barbara County Planning Commissioner for the Third District and Third District Supervisoral candidate, Joan Hartmann, a Tesla Model S owner attended. Extremely successful and well attended show by the general public. Of the 10 cars on display, 9 were separate, all-electric models. Venue was a high traffic tourist destination. Attendees were from all over the world in addition to the United States. |
South Pasadena | South Pasadena, CA | We were going to run the movie "What is the Electric Car?" (based on the book with the same name), but had technical difficulties. Instead we had a Q&A panel with the director, co-author of the book, and another cast member from the film. We had several different types of vehicles, including: plug in electric, plug in hybrid, hydrogen fuel cell and CNG powered. Our event was a clean air car show and green expo, and so gave away an electric lawn mower donated by South Coast Air Quality Maintenance District. We'll be posting photos to our Facebook later this week. |
Aspen | Aspen, CO | We were incredibly excited when a local resident arrived in a Model X with his family. He stayed for much of the event and was a great addition to the municipal fleet vehicles and demo vehicles from local dealerships. |
Dacono | Dacono, CO | The CDOT Executive Director came and spoke about Transportation in the 21st Century. NREL brought 2 Hydrogen vehicles. Boulder Nissan had a Leaf. Lots of Drive and Rides. |

Our EV Mass Drive through Old Town Fort Collins was spotted by innumerable people on the street and at sidewalk cafes. We were heavily supported by KUNC and 105.5 The Colorado Sound, and had event announcements on each radio station for a week before the events. |
Glenwood Springs | Glenwood Springs, CO | CLEER co-hosted an EV ride and drive and educational table on Sept. 13 at the Glenwood Downtown Market in Glenwood Springs, Colo. CLEER partnered with three Glenwood Springs auto dealerships Audi Glenwood Springs, Mountain Chevrolet and Glenwood Springs Ford, along with Garfield Clean Energy, the City of Glenwood Springs, Garfield County Environmental Health, the White River National Forest and community volunteers. In spite of cool temperatures and dark storm clouds, the Glenwood Springs event gave 31 people a chance to drive or ride in an array of plug-in electric vehicles - the Chevy Volt, Audi A3 e-tron and Ford Fusion - and to check out five privately-owned EVs. Two CLEER staff members brought their EVs. Matt Shmigelsky showed off his Nissan Leaf, and Shelley Kaup showed her Ford C-Max Energi. White River National Forest staff showed the agency’s Ford C-Max, Frank Nadell showed his Chevy Volt, and Craig Farnum showed his Tesla Model S. |
Golden | Golden, CO | During the first hour people talked to EV owners, and went on test rides in one of two Teslas, a Volt, a Leaf, and a Smart. In the second hour Jim Smith presented on "The Gasoline Car is Obsolete", followed by a Q&A. |
Golden | Golden, CO | Of the 17 vehicles there, not all were at the same time. Some had to leave early and some came late. |
Fairfield | Fairfield, CT | Over 10 different models including BMW i3, BMW i8, Nissan Leaf, Chevy Volt, Tesla Model S, Tesla Model X, Mercedes B Class, VW e-Golf, Ford C-Max, Toyota Prius. Three food vendors were present including BuzzTruck (organic coffee roasted in Trumbull by Shearwater, who delivers in a Leaf), Snowie (every kid had one), and BGood (great veggie burgers). All Green It solar, Sierra Club, and CETF also had tables. A list of EV models at the CETF table went like hotcakes, as did the free sunglasses and USB fans provided by NDEW. Recevied bi-partisan support from political attendees: Fairfield First Selectman Mike Tetreau (D), CT State Senator Tony Hwang (R), CT State Representative Laura Devlin (R), CT State Representative Brenda Kupchick (R), Fairfield RTM Member Dru Georgeodis (D), and Fairfield Selectperson Laurie McArdle (R). |
Groton | Groton, CT | New England Electric Auto Assn, teaming with Navy NAVFAC, hosted the event on the Navy Base. Public access was limited but open to all on-base personnel. Eight personal EVs/ PHEVs were able to participate and owners were able to share their EV experiences. Approximately 1,000 sailors and civilians filled the auditorium to capacity for general training that ended with 15 minutes presentation on EV 101 basics. Many left through the front entrance and on to Dealey Plaza where they were able to talk with owners about their experiences with EVs. The all-electric Teslas attracted quite a bit of attraction as well as the BMW I3 Rex and Ford C-Max Energi, both plug-in hybrids. All participants were glad that the event took place, glad to see the cars on display and to talk with owners. |
Middletown | Middletown, CT | Our NDEW event was held at Middletown High School as a part of the Cat Tales non-profit organization's Fast and Furriest Car Show. We had our own section with five plug-ins on display; a Nissan Leaf, Tesla Model S, Ford C-Max Energi, BMW i3 Rex, and a Chevy Volt. Over 150 stopped by the exhibit to talk EVs with our team. |
Middletown | Middletown, CT | Biggest event in Central Connecticut, held on the Connecticut River shores in Middletown, CT. Great turnout with beautiful weather. Over 200 people attended and 24 plus 6 city owned plug-ins were on display. Five local dealers were present giving ride & drives. Robotics teams were present as well as local Solar dealers and a food truck. |
New Britain | New Britain, CT | Had a beautiful, partly sunny comfortable day at Central Connecticut State University parking lot next to their charging stations. Many Teslas, Leafs, Volts, and other EV/PHEVs were on display for students and other visitors to see and ask questions. Some owners provided ride & drives to share the EV experience. |
Old Saybrook | Old Saybrook, CT | Big Y World Class Market offered grilled hot dogs & Hamburgers along with chips and drinks! Here's the link to our NEEAA Facebook photo album. https://www.facebook.com/NewEnglandElectricAutoAssociation/photos/?tab=album&album_id=948197698643358 A light rain ended the event a few minutes early. Thanks to all who came out to participate! |
Somers | Somers, CT | We had a blast participating in the Somers Four Town Fair Parade and electric vehicle rally. Participating in this multi-town event enabled us raise awareness of electric vehicles to large number of people from Somers, Enfield, East Windsor, Stafford and surrounding areas in Connecticut as well as people from East Longmeadow and surrounding areas in Massachusetts. The First Selectman (or mayor) from Somers signed and presented us with her proclamation declaring September 10th - 18th as National Drive Week in Somers. After the parade we met up at our rally site where drivers of the following cars were present and gave ride and drives: Chevy Volt (3), Tesla Model S (1), Volkswagen e-Golf (1), Kia Soul Electric (1), Mitsubishi i-MiEV (2), BMW i3 (1). |
Wallingford | Wallingford, CT | Weather was great at our Stop & Shop grocery store gathering this Saturday afternoon. The store graciously provided apple cider and apple / pumpkin donut holes to celebrate the season's changing to fall. We had several plug-ins on display including a Ford Focus Electric, two Leafs, a new Model S, Ford C-Max Energi and a E-Golf. Special mention to Lindsey and his Gen 1 Prius, the first one sold in Connecticut! Several shoppers stopped by to learn about plug-ins and State Representative Mary Mushinsky joined us to discuss EVs/ PHEVs. |
Washington | Washington, DC | Several people took rides in one of our Nissan Leafs and the yellow Tesla Roadster, especially after we taped on signs saying "Free Electric Car Rides". I also had an interesting conversation with a cabbie who stopped by in his Kia Soul EV taxi. In DC, there is a fleet of something like 50 Leaf taxis and 5 Kia Soul EV taxis. He said he drives a couple hundred miles a day and does about 2 quick charges. He also said there is always a line of taxis at the handful of DC quick chargers downtown. We turned on several folks who left really excited about EV's, especially those who did the Leaf ride-and-drive. |
Rehoboth Beach | Rehoboth Beach, DE | Most people lived nearby but one family came all the way from Baltimore. |
Destin | Destin, FL | We had a fantastic turnout for the event at the Destin Commons Shopping Center. They blocked off a section of the road for EV parking only. Tesla owners showed up in the greatest numbers. No test rides were given but all the owners generously allowed the public to check out their EVs. |
Jacksonville | Jacksonville, FL | Approximatley 55 people attended the Jacksonville, FL Drive Electric Lunch-n-Learn event and over half were EV drivers. A variety of cars were on display, but the Tesla X was the most popular attraction with its gull wing doors. Our lunch and learn presentation focused on making current EV owners ambassadors and arming them with facts to counter common myths and misinformation about EV's. |
Oldsmar | Oldsmar, FL | Drive Electric Tampa Bay celebrated National Drive Electric Week with an electric vehicle rally and driving a tour throughout the Tampa Bay area. EV owners and participants joined the tour at the different destinations listed. The first 40 EV owners that arrive at the event received a FREE car flag with the logo Drive Electric Tampa Bay to display during the tour. The rally began in Oldsmar,FL at the only Dunkin' Donuts to hear a proclamation from the City Mayor and officially launch the event. Attendees checked out newly installed electric fast charger at Dunkin' Donuts as they enjoy a FREE donut with a beverage purchase. From Oldsmar, electric vehicles owners drove to Downtown Dunedin,FL for a pit-stop and enjoyed the many local restaurants and shops in the area. From there, electric vehicles owners can drove a scenic route along the coast through Downtown St Petersburg on Beach Drive. A film crew was hired to create a promotional video which will be released in the coming weeks. |
Orlando | Orlando, FL | We had a good turnout. Our event was split in to two activities. We had a "car show" where attendees who brought their EV sat by their car and spoke to other enthusiasts and other visitors interested in learning about EV's. The other activity was "educational forums", a line of guest speakers spoke about a variety of topics. We heard about upcoming legislative amendments in the state of Florida related to EV's and sustainability in general; tips for finding the right EV for you, using the Central Florida solar co-op for purchasing residential/business solar, and all about the amazing work happening in the City of Orlando through the GreenWorks initiative. Thank you to Brian Macon, Terry Laplante, Goering Castro, Derek Grozio and Chris Castro for sharing with us. |
Orlando | Orlando, FL | This event was intended to be a small-scale event in a high traffic location on the University of Central Florida campus. Despite having no budget and only one person planning the event, it turned out to be a success! Individual Tesla owners brought their X and S models to the patio, which was the crowd favorite amongst passerbys. They voluntarily engaged with the crowd for the extent of the event, and were very knowledge on their cars and its history. Community partners, such as Florida Solar Energy Center and Central Florida Clean Cities Coalition, brought literature and more affordable EVs to display, such as the Volt and LEAF. It was great to have both sides of the EV spectrum on the patio. In addition, an engineering student brought his electric go-kart to display to students and informed them on how to get involved on making change on campus. We held out with the rain, and it was an overall fun, well-rounded event. |
Pensacola | Pensacola, FL | The event logistics worked well as we engaged customers in and out of a local favorite coffee house. Everything went according to plan other than the rain that cut us about two hours short. |
Satellite Beach | Satellite Beach, FL | We had the event opened by Satellite Beach City Councilman Steve Osmer who read the official proclamation with the city seal. There were food trucks, Tesla autopark/summon demonstrations, electric bike stunt demos, and the Brevard County Sheriff brought their electric Tron style motorcycle. Four separate solar installers were there as exhibitors as well as a few local dealerships. Tesla Motors even sent a Model S and the portable design studio from Orlando. There were 45 electric vehicles on display and giving ride and drives including home-converted cars and a Zero S Motorcycle. Jim Fenton from the Florida Solar Energy Center gave several speeches about EVs, solar power, and battery technology in between runs of "What is the Electric Car?" movie on a projector inside the Schechter Center. There was a raffle for a few small prizes and gift cards held at the end of the event. Almost 400 attendees were counted! |
West Palm Beach | West Palm Beach, FL | Our event for the Southeast Florida region this year was located along the picturesque Flagler Drive waterfront in West Palm Beach adjacent to the Meyer Amphitheater. Families gathered in the afternoon and early evening to hear a live country western concert and browse the wide variety of plug-in electric cars on display. The event provided four hours of opportunities for EV enthusiasts to visit with one another and share their experiences with the general public. Our display included a 2012 Fisker Karma, an all electric modified “Lamborgreenie”, BMW i8, Porsche Panamera hybrid, electric motorcycles, a converted plug-in electric transit bus and an array of Teslas (including a Model X), BMW i3’s, Nissan Leafs, Ford Fusions, Chevy Volts, Volvos and Smart for Twos –totaling around 700,000 electric miles driven. |
Alpharetta | Alpharetta, GA | The event was held at a venue at the center of the metro Atlanta population in Alpharetta GA at Avalon, a master planned city center community. Six sponsors supported the event including one Public Utility, three EV charging companies (one with Solar), two Auto OEMs (Nissan and BMW) and the local EV Club. The venue provided space for exhibitor tents with tables. There were 33 EVs from private owners and 5 from OEMs and 1 from the City of Atlanta Corrections Department (the PoLEAF) and a VIA powered pick up truck from GA Power. We organized the EVs by region of origin (NA, EU, Asia) and had a Tesla owners group in front of the Tesla store. We distributed EV Fact Sheets and interacted with dozens of event goers. We had two Mayors (David Belle Isle, Alpharetta GA and Ted Terry, Clarkston GA), one Public Utility as presenting sponsor and the City of Atlanta Director of Sustainability to speak to kick off the event. Literature was provided at each of the Sponsor tables/tents |
Conyers | Conyers, GA | 2nd year of NDEW and we made small steps to improve. This year we drove through town with NDEW car signs. Next year we'll add flags. Need to do more to get word out sooner. Look forward to next year. |
Hilo | Hilo, HI | On September 17, 2016, our association held a 2-hour event at the WikiFresh in Hilo. We had about 50 people attend the event. We had participation from many of our members, representatives from several companies, and (importantly) people who were genuinely interested in electric car ownership, charging stations, and features and functions of various EVs. Our guests had many questions addressed and walked away with many informational brochures. We even had the pleasure of meeting a Plug In America founder, Mike Kane! He was accompanied by Cathy Lam (a founder of Our1World.org, an international organization that promotes sustainability). We had a good showing of EVs at our event. â–ª 4 Nissan LEAF â–ª 4 Chevy Volt â–ª 2 Tesla Model S â–ª 1 Tesla Model X â–ª 1 Kia Soul â–ª 1 electric motorcycle Among the companies that joined us: â–ª Kama’aina Nissan (with a Nissan LEAF) â–ª Aloha Kia (with a Soul EV) â–ª Provision Solar â–ª Rising Sun Solar â–ª HELCO â–ª 5th Dimension Designs, LLC |
Kailua-Kona | Kailua-Kona, HI | We had great weather and a successful event. We had a good turnout - around 100 visitors during the 4-hour period. Many people had questions about EVs and several were keenly interested in purchasing and wanted to know more. Many came to check out and test drive the latest electric cars. Several companies joined the event. They handed out materials and fielded questions about EVs, PV, electric bikes, charging stations, and emerging services. We addressed many questions regarding EV ownership, charging, and buying experiences. We also distributed had a large number of informational handouts from our national organizers and issues of Electric Car Insider. Des Moines | Des Moines, IA | The Mayor of Des Moines, Frank Cownie, declared September 10 - 18 as National Drive Electric Week, but could not attend the event. The street closure area was surrounded by major employers including Nationwide and Wellmark insurance companies. We had ride and drive vehicles parked along a road that was open, Locust Street. Of the 16 vehicles present, some were individual owners, car dealerships, a business owner that uses EVs for delivering burritos, and a Porsche converted to electric. We had a food truck serving salads and smoothies and a hot dog cart. The parking garage manager for Nationwide attended and learned about how to be more engaged to offer workplace charging for employees. The mayor of a nearby city, Windsor Heights attended. |
West Des Moines | West Des Moines, IA | Our NDEW event was held at the Valley Junction Farmers Market. The event was primarily made up of EV and PHEV owners who brought their cars and motorcycles to share with the public. There were 2 auto dealers who brought cars. 2 dealers called at the last second to say they had no eligible vehicles in inventory and 3 auto dealers were no-shows with no notice. On the whole most dealers are less than enthused to participate. The highlight of the evening was the display of the Iowa State University PrISUm solar electric car, Phaeton 2. It drew a lot of attention and gathered a crowd. I could not get a good crowd shot because the cars were spread out in lines down the block and the crowd was spread out too. |
Boise | Boise, ID | The Boise National Drive Electric Week Car Show on Sunday September 11th was a terrific event with good turnout. It was the largest EV show in Idaho history with 52 electric vehicles on display from local owners and dealers, along with 15 electric bikes and one solar go-kart. Mayor David H Bieter of the City of Boise issued a proclamation in honor of Drive Electric Week in Boise and had his plug-in electric hybrid at the event on display with information about the City of Boise's work with fleet electrification. Local event organizers were Idaho Sierra Club, Idaho Power and Treasure Valley Clean Cities Coalition. Additional event partners included American Lung Association in Idaho, Idaho National Laboratory, Boise State University, City of Boise, Dennis Dillon, Fairly Reliable Bob's, Lyle Pearson, Boise Electric Bikes, Idaho Mountain Touring, Auric Solar, Altenergy, Aurora, Empowered Solar, Blue Lightening Solar, GreenSpeed Research. |
Chicago | Chicago, IL | Our event took place at Daley Plaza, the heart of downtown Chicago. There was no ride and drive this year due to the reconfiguration of traffic lanes around the plaza but it was still a highly effective event. Thousands of people travel through Daley Plaza and we were able to engage a large amount of them. There was a DJ from Noon to 1pm that brought an energy to the event and made it fun. |
Evanston | Evanston, IL | Ours was put together very quickly with little time to publicize so turnout was small. But I must say the awareness of National Drive Electric Week is very low. The Tesla and Chevy dealers I visited had never heard of it. Most of the EV drivers who signed up also had never heard of it. Next year, the communication to all makers of EV's should be many months ahead of the event. And they all should promote it themselves. |
Lake Barrington | Lake Barrington, IL | The show went terrific for our 1st EV-ent, here in Lake Barrington, only 1 dealer showed up, Motor Werks of Barrington, with a 2016 Porsche Panamera E-Hybrid, & participants Tesla's, Volt's, Leaf, C-Max Energi, Fisker Karma, Custom built cars, Triumph Spitfire, Jeep Wrangler, 1930 Hupmobile, (all on Lithium Power), My own 1980 Bradley GT E, 1995 Civic EV |
Naperville | Naperville, IL | We started off the NDEW event Sunday 9/18 /2016 by holding a 20 minute parade of electric vehicles around the local area down Ogden Ave. and Route 59 roads circling back to the Naperville test track. EVeryone had a blast! Then for the next few hours we had a steady stream of guests interested in electric vehicles come and talk to the owners and drivers of EVs, many of the volunteers taking guests around the car test track. Great Music was provided by a Fox Valley Electric Auto Association volunteer and with the gorgeous weather it was considered a success by all. |
Portage | Portage, IN | This was our first time officially participating in the event and we thought it went very well. We had multiple people from the area who drive electric vehicles come out for the event and discussed reasons who they chose to purchase an electric vehicle and the benefits they have seen from doing so. We also had multiple dealerships such as Mike Anderson Chevrolet, Nissan North America, and BMW of Schererville at the event to promote their vehicles. |
Overland Park | Overland Park, KS | This was a workplace charging event that was promoted heavily to employees of Black & Veatch, which has 41 charging ports on its Overland Park campus, but it was also made available to visitors and to employees of other area businesses. It was supported by Kansas City Regional Clean Cities and KCP&Ls Clean Charge Network. The prime attraction was ride & drives in BMW's i8, as well as the also popular i3 BEV, 5-series PHEV SUV and the brand-new 7-series and 3-series PHEV sedans. Participating dealerships from Nissan and Chevrolet offered rides in the new Leaf and Volt models, while Ford and Tesla BEV models were also on display. Prior to event kick-off more than 60 people had pre-registered for the opportunity to drive a BMW, and final tallies of all the ride & drives have not yet come in. |
Prairie Village | Prairie Village, KS | Had a good variety of EVs and PHEVs. The Tesla X was a good draw. Both Conversions drew interest. The event was in conjunction with a church dinner. I spoke to the group about the need and benefits of EVs. Having an event the Sunday before helped spread the word. Photo to follow after sifting thur all that were taken |
Louisville | Louisville, KY | This year was even better than last year (our first year participating in NDEW). We had a preview event the weekend before DEW (sat and sun) at a very popular and upscale flea market. The first weekend of DEW we participated in a parade in Louisville and had a ride and drive in Lexington. At the ride and drive we had the UK solar car team bring their solar car (which was a real hit). We even had the solar car race a Tesla, which was a real crowd pleaser. Of course, you know who won! And, the last weekend we had a ride and drive event in Louisville that was well attended and our EV movie night after, where we viewed Who Killed the Electric Car. It was interesting to watch that movie again in the light of all that is going on in the EV community both nationally and locally. We are making great strides! |
Baton Rouge | Baton Rouge, LA | The event was held in the North Blvd Town Square in downtown Baton Rouge. We had planned to hold a press conference with the Mayor to announce the City's Green Park BR initiative where the city and Entergy are investing in public charging infrastructure, but the event had to be postponed due to delays in the installations and the Mayor's schedule (our state recently suffered through unprecedented flooding). The Sierra Club joined us on the lawn and had a tent next to our Clean Cities tent. We showed the movie, "Revenge of the Electric Car" on the media beacon. Prior to the movie starting we displayed the NDEW logo on the beacon and played "car" themed songs for the event. Vehicles on display: (3) Tesla Model S, (2) BMW i3, (2) Chevy Volts, (1) Nissan Leaf and a electric bike. The Mayor of Baton Rouge, Kip Holden stopped by for a photo opp and to show his support for our organization. We have many great photos of the event - I can send more that show the layout and the sign. |
New Orleans | New Orleans, LA | Hosts: New Orleans City Council, Whole Foods Market, Ray Brandt Nissan, EV-LA, Southeast Louisiana Clean Fuel Partnership Sponsors: PosiGen, Entergy, Cox Communications EV-LA Vehicle Displays: Chevrolet Volt, Tesla Model S, Nissan LEAF, BMW i3 REx, Mitsubishi i-MiEV, 1980 Electra Van Winner of the Nissan LEAF Weekend Giveaway Raffle: William Valin |
Amherst | Amherst, MA | We had a fun and flowing event that was enhanced by the kiss of a gorgeous day and beautiful sunset. In addition to the people who registered online and those I had specially invited, our display of 2 Teslas, a Ford Focus EV, a Smart EV, 2 Leafs, 2 Volts and a PEBL human/electric 3 wheel vehicle attracted approximately 40 people of various ages and interests. It was a respectable turn out despite the fact that our display area was somewhat obscured by physical and visual impediments, as part of the construction of a new sidewalk and crosswalk in front of the public library which hosted our event. Our inclusion of the PEBL resonated with many participants. I have been organizing sustainable transportation events since the early 90's. The single most delightful thing that happened during this event or has ever happened during one of my events, was the arrival of Father John in clerical garb with his Volt. He joined right in with the promotion of EVs. See attached photo. |
Braintree | Braintree, MA | This was the kick-off for the Town initiative, Braintree Drives Electric. Braintree Mayor Sullivan took a test drive. Gina Coplon-Newfield visited and spoke on behalf of EVs. We delivered 45 test drives and connected Braintree residents to pre-negotiated lease deals with local dealerships, Braintree-specific charging incentives, and the state rebate for qualified vehicles. Great swell in momentum around Braintree Drives Electric. |
Brookline | Brookline, MA | Over 150 EV drivers and spectators brought their enthusiasm and 50 vehicles to the historic Larz Anderson Auto Museum for EV Day this year. 25 different makes and models demonstrated some of the many ways to drive oil free and benefit the environment. Participants included - Examples of almost every production electric vehicle eligible for Massachusetts EV Rebates and Federal Tax Credits - Iconic or out of production EVs like the BMW i8, Tesla Model X and Tesla Roadster - A Tesla Model X that just completed a cross country road trip without burning a drop of gasoline - Gas car conversions to electric powertrains - Chevy, Honda and MG - eBikes from Victory Motorcycles, electric Bicycles, XL Hybrids commercial truck, and startup TransitX - Industrial strength charging solutions from Wattzilla - Massachusetts MOR-EV, Climate Action Brookline, and Mass Energy Consumers Alliance |
Reading | Reading, MA | RMLD hosted the event at its offices, showing the vehicles right next to the road. The showcase had vehicles from dealers and local owners. The owners walked around with the other people, talking about their cars and general ownership tips as well. There was an information booth with RMLD, state and federal information listed. We also had one dealership available for test drives. The general impression was good. The owners definitely liked being able to interact with each other and all of them were more than happy to discuss the perks of owning a vehicle. We were able to have both RMLD customers and out-of-territory owners talking about how they use their vehicles in their daily lives. |
Springfield | Springfield, MA | This event took place at the Springfield museums. The event was adjacent to their annual "history in motion" event which was a display of old vehicles. We talked to over 30 adults and children about the EVs. WE did not get the Tesla as promised but the two vehicles on display were an accomplishment for a location in remote western Massachusetts. This event was planned without the knowledge of an event held in another western mass town held by a local utility. They had a slightly better number of cars - Next year we will look to combine events. |
Walpole | Walpole, MA | Dealers present were Muzi Chevrolet of Needham MA and BMW gallery of Norwood. The i8 clearly attracted the most attention. Lots of great conversation between owners about their experiences and knowledge of the cars. I wish some more people from the public looked at the cars but overall I was happy with the turnout. |
Worcester | Worcester, MA | We had a great turn out for the Worcester NDEW event with over 150 people turning out and over 60 ride & drives. Keynote remarks were given by: Judith Judson - Commissioner of the DOER, Coleen Gardner -Director of Partnerships at National Grid, Prof. John Orr - Director of Sustainability at WPI, and Joe Bush - Executive Director of the Worcester CleanTech Incubator. On top of many vehicles brought by attendees, Bikes and Life brought electric bicycles, and local BMW, Nissan and Kia dealerships brought BMW i3, X5 and xDrive40e, i8, Nissan LEAF, KIA Soul EV, Chevrolet Volt and Cadillac ELR. Say Cheese kept our appetites satisfied with delicious eats. With beautiful sunshine galore we were also graced with WPI’s rare EV1, an electric motorcycle, and an electric Chevy s10 pickup! Each year the Worcester NDEW Ride & Drive keeps getting better and is supported by a vibrant community of engaged citizens. |
Annapolis | Annapolis, MD | We received a proclamation declaring Sept. 17, 2016 "Drive Electric Day in Annapolis" signed by the Mayor of Annapolis. It was presented on-site by two of our Aldermen (city councilmen). The audience consisted of people who learned about the event from the news media, posters around town, and social media. There were also many who were just out walking in our harbor area. The 36-car show included two electric-powered boats, an exhibit of innovative energy-saving LED lighting and solar power for marine use, a Solar City booth, and an exhibit demonstrating the differing amount of energy used by various types of light bulbs. Four cars were especially interesting because they had not been seen before: Tesla Model X, Audi A3 e-tron, and Cadillac ELR. (The Model X with the gull-wing doors was the hit.) We also had a GEM utility vehicle, essentially an electric mini pick-up truck. Audi, Nissan and Smart cars were brought by dealers. I believe the Smart cars were sold as a result of the show. |
Baltimore | Baltimore, MD | No podium. No speakers. Just EV Car Talk, Rides and Drives surrounded by green. Many walk-up and curious became EV experienced and began asking purchase questions. Our designated Test-Drive Route had scenic lake-cityscape views and one stretch allowing safe unforgettable "Peddle-to-Metal" experiences. Special EVs: 1 Zero motorcycle, 1 ELF Velomobile, 2 Think Citys and 1 Bewegen EV Bike from Baltimore BikeShare. Our 1st year event: EV Rally in a Park setting with a great Test-Drive Route. EVs and participants floated thru all afternoon. Test Drives in BMW I3, Leaf, and Chevy Spark. Test Rides in several owner vehicles including an early vintage Tesla operated by a commercial aircraft pilot. We had little media outreach support. We mostly emailed community ListServes, personal contacts & FaceBook The Rawlings Conservatory gave us great support, street cones, traffic control by Park Rangers. $32 rented one port-a-pot. |
Hyattsville | Hyattsville, MD | The City of Hyattsville, Maryland had planned their very first "Green Expo" on Saturday September 17th, 2016, but had forgotten about electric vehicles. I didn't find out about the event until just a week prior, and when I asked the organizer if she would like to have EVs at the event, she said that was a fantastic idea, and asked for my help in getting EVs to attend. At that point I decided to make it an official NDEW event, but I only had a short window to try an get EV owners to show up. Unfortunately most local EV owners had already signed up for the huge Poolesville NDEW event (same day), but despite this being an "11th Hour" show, we still had a small but nice turnout, and the Green Expo organizers realized what needed to be done to make it bigger next year with better advertising and earlier notice. We had: 1 BMW i3, 2 Chev Sparks, 1 Chev Volt, 1 GEM LSV. (Note: vehicles came and went, so the attached picture does not show all of the EVs in attendance.) |
Poolesville | Poolesville, MD | It was AWESOME!!! More than 90 vehicles, 22 models! Our Poolesville event has grown to become the largest NDEW event on the east coast, thanks to the support of the Town of Poolesville, the Poolesville Day committee, and local Electric Vehicle (EV) organizations like MD Volt (http://MDVolt.org/), but mostly through the enthusiastic EV owners who share their time, their vehicles and their experiences with the general public. This year we had few members from the Star Wars 501st Stormtroopers, Maryland Old Line Garrison, and George Washington from the Washington Nationals Racing Presidents and an Abraham Lincoln, which provided some great photo opportunities. We had dealerships, like DARCARS Nissan, King Volkswagen, Sheehy Ford, BMW of Rockville and KIA of America (who brought several cars, staff. goodies and tent). Jim Alvis, Government Affairs for Kia Motors America Corp and Genovation Cars founder and CEO Andrew Saul, maker of the record breaking Corvette GXE attended. |
South Paris | South Paris, ME | Ribbon cutting ceremony for a new public charger install at the South Paris Police Station Had prominent town employees present and giving speeches: town manager & police chief Sierra Club Chapter Director Glen Brand was present and gave a speech as well |
South Portland | South Portland, ME | This was a wonderful day. Although our Gov Paul LePage is not interested in solar, wind or hydro projects, he is interested in EVs. His spokesman Patrick Woodcock did discuss an infrastructure corridor from Quebec to Portland, Maine where charging stations will be equipped by the end of 2017. This is very exciting as we have a great number of Canadians visiting the coast of Maine during the summer season. Also the Mayor of South Portland, Maine also spoke about the number of EVs the city. They are purchasing for municipal use (a small fleet of 5 Nissan Leafs). He also discuss the many charging stations being deployed throughout the city. Also our Hannaford supermarket chain has completed the installation of DC fast charging & Nissan charging at 4 locations in Maine. Maine is getting on board. |
Ann Arbor | Ann Arbor, MI | There was a great diversity of plug-in vehicles this year that we haven't seen for several years. We had BMW i3s, i8, Tesla Model X, S, Leafs, Volts Ford C-Max and Focus, i MiEV, conversions and many different electric bikes. |
Kalamazoo | Kalamazoo, MI | The 2016 National Drive Electric Week Kalamazoo was held along one of busiest highways going through the city with hundreds people seeing the cars on display and a bill board explaining the event. Presentation highlights included past and new venues. One even converted a known 'ev skeptic' who, in his review commented on understanding and now admiring highway capable electric cars. Drive highlights include several surprise ev's attendees from an early (1970's) production model to several Zero motorcycles to a Tesla Model X. Additionally, PV and wind installers attended events to help promote the link between clean energy and ev's. There was interest in owning new/used ev's after the drive experience and getting the 'real scoop' from owners. All the ev's on display and driven had fans, from the expected sporty Teslas to those looking for a retro VW Bug in the Mitsubishi i-MiEV. The Event has found very strong venues which we look forward to returning to. |
Plymouth | Plymouth, MI | We had a very successful event! We rolled the dice on having the event on a weekday knowing that we would get dealers to attend but may struggle with getting individual owners to participate. It was extremely well received by all and the we believe it was very successful. We learned many lessons and hope to have an even larger event in 2017! |
Oakdale | Oakdale, MN | This was covered by the Lillie News (a local news organization), Pioneer Press, Star Tribune, and KSTP. We had a great reception |
Ramsey | Ramsey, MN | Our NDEW event was part of a larger Ramsey city carnival event. We had a dedicated EV street as part of the festivities. After a three-hour window of test drives and people viewing EVs and talking to owners, 5 of the vehicles that were on display participated in the parade along with classic cars and other parade participants. |
St. Louis | St. Louis, MO | Our event took place at the Saint Louis Science Center. We had a state university bring a 100% solar car that was very popular. We also had a local motor cycle dealers ship bring Zeros to the show. For the kids we had face painting and a photo booth. |
Asheville | Asheville, NC | We had a lot of models of evs including a Roadster, a Mercedes EV, an electric bicycle and the BMW I8. Other models present were Leafs, Volts, Model S's, I3s, BMW X5 e-hybrid, Audi E-tron, Ford focus EV, Ford CMax Energi, Ford Fusion Energi and a solar electric golf cart! Special guest Leilani Munter attended with her model S. She gave a beautiful talk about driving electric and other sustainable habits. Also present were several solar companies, and organic apparel company, a solar powered race car from Appalachian State university and a test EV from University of North Carolina Asheville. |
Cary | Cary, NC | The event went great! It was co-hosted with Advanced Energy, a local education non-profit, along with The Mayton Inn, a boutique hotel in downtown Cary. We had a local City Council member come with her Tesla Model S, and many others bring their electric vehicles. |
Charlotte | Charlotte, NC | This was our second year putting on this event and we had much more of a variety of plug-in electric vehicles this time. Everything from a KIA Soul EV and Fiat electric to Smart EV's and Model X. Local dealerships provided static displays of the 2017 Chevy Volt, BMW 330e plug-in sedan and Model X. Leaf test drives were provided by Cornelius Willingham, Nissan's Electric Vehicle Fleet Business Development Manager. He brought a module of the Leaf's battery for show and was a wealth of knowledge to speak to. ReNu Energy Solutions who are our sustainable energy partners that install solar panels to residences was there providing free coffee. Everyone had a great time showing off their cars to the public and each other. |
Charlotte | Charlotte, NC | Charlotte's National Drive Electric Week was a great success! The location choice of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Government Center provided busy lunchtime traffic as well as attendance from key city decision-makers. Charlotte's city council environmental subcommittee meeting adjourned early to be in attendance at the event. Many interested visitors stopped to ask questions of our many contributors including: Centralina Clean Fuels Coalition, Modern Nissan of Lake Norman, Sustain Charlotte, Charlotte Department of Transportation and Charlotte Cycles. There is a strong interest in our community for EV's! NDEW's event was able to involve a broader cross section of the community and encourage this interest and promote excitement of driving electric. |
Edenton | Edenton, NC | This was the first NDEW in Edenton and it went well! Edenton is a small town in North Carolina, so we didn't expect a large crowd, but it was a great turn out. We held the event next to a water front park, so we had a lot of foot traffic. |
Raleigh | Raleigh, NC | Great event! We had 30 cars on display and lots of visitors. We also had three dealerships (Ford, Nissan and BMW) attend and give test drives. We also had two other Raleigh NDEW events. One was held on NC State's campus and had 12 cars on display and lots of students attend, no test drives though. The other event was a display of 5 vehicles at the North Hills farmers' market. We had a Tesla, BMW, Ford, Chevy and Nissan on display and lots of foot traffic. |
Fargo | Fargo, ND | Moorhead Mayor Del Rae Williams read a tri-city proclamation naming Drive Electric Week. She also expressed interest in pursuing a DC fast charger for Moorhead in the future. ND Senator Tim Mathern spoke about Green Transportation. He did a good job talking about the environment and ways people can be greener transportation wise, putting great emphasis on mass transit and ride shares. Both the Sunglasses and the USB powered fans were popular items. The Tesla Model S's were the crowd favourites. 3 Nissan LEAF, 1 Mitsubishi iMiev, 1 Chevy Volt, 3 Tesla Model S. |
Concord | Concord, NH | Over 500 attendees flocked the State House to view electric vehicles and talk to vehicle owners. It was a perfect fall day in New Hampshire and with the farmers market next door going full tilt, the crowds often lined up to talk to the drivers. The 40' Proterra electric bus was a big hit, giving rides to attendees. Vehicles included Teslas, Nissans, Fords, Chevys, and a Smart fortwo, a 1998 Solectria, BYD e6, and several electric bicycles. This is one of three events in NH and the best one in Concord to date! |
Durham | Durham, NH | To increase exposure to the general public, we combed our event with our annual Durham Day festivities at a municipal park. As a result, we had a lot more foot traffic that last year and a lot more exposure of the electric vehicle category to the public. Several people reporting coming to the event for the sole purpose of learning about electric vehicles and sitting or driving some. Others simply passed by with kids and relatives and started conversations about their "next car" being a hybrid or all electric vehicle. Interestingly, this year there was only a single Tesla (vs 10 or more last year. Similarly, while 5 Nissan Leaf's signed up, only one arrived. BMW i3s and Chevy Volts were highly represented, Prius plug ins as well. We were disappointed not only that Tesla was a no show, but that our BMW dealership was unluckily out of i3s on the day of the event (the last one was purchased by an attendee of last year's NDEW event a week before!) |
New London | New London, NH | Even though we're a small town of only 4500 people, we pulled out all the stops to make our Expo one of the top two NDEW events in all of New England - the other being the one in Boston. Attendance far exceeded our expectations, with 24 electric cars and at least 350 participants. We also had several electric bicycles, a speaker series with six presenters, and four solar panel installers set up exhibits to show off their services. We offered free admission, free homemade cookies and donuts, free coffee and apple cider, and a free raffle ticket for all pre-registered attendees. Donated prizes for our raffle included an overnight stay at a local B&B, a hand-turned wooden bowl made by a local artisan, and lots of gift certificates to local restaurants and businesses. The highlight of our Expo was the Tesla Model X with its falcon-wing doors. The Model X gave more rides than all the other cars combined. Here's a video report: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PKax8c0Jkvo |
Atlantic City | Atlantic City, NJ | ACUA’s second annual National Drive Electric Week celebration raised awareness about electric vehicles and the need for additional electric vehicle charging infrastructure. EV owners drove to the event to give the public a chance to see, touch and drive the vehicles. There were a wide variety of vehicles on display, and this year we were pleased to have two local car dealers Chapman Ford and Shore Toyota participate. Speakers included Chuck Feinberg, chairman of the New Jersey Clean Cities Coalition, Steve Mazur of South Jersey Transportation Authority and Toni Granato and Andrea Coniglio of the Sierra Club, New Jersey Chapter, which also helped to publicize the event. |
Bridgewater | Bridgewater, NJ | We had a great event with 36 Electric Vehicles. We had 24 personally owned Electric Vehicles - Tesla, Kia, Zero, BMW, Nissan, Mercedes, Cadillac and VW. We had Kia corporate attend with 5 Kia Soul EV's, which they used 4 of them for test drives. We had a Nissan LEAF bought by Nissan corporate for test drives. We had dealer/manufacturer cars from BMW, Mercedes, Smart and Ford. We had one hamster charging the Tesla's. There were more than 800 people attending the event who were able to talk to owners, take test drives, get dinner from the gourmet food trucks and listen to the band too. The event was hosted with the Bridgewater Environmental Commission who were in attendance as well as members of the mayors office. |
Metuchen | Metuchen, NJ | There were a number of people who showed up because they had heard about the event through social media / newspaper / online, and many of the local Farmer's Market Patrons stopped in as well. I talked to many retired older people who were there for the Market, but very interested. There were also a lot of families with young children stopping by. Some local politicians / community volunteers stopped in. I remember Dorothy Rasmussen was there from the town council, and a local township administrator. Farmer's Market Volunteers were very helpful. I contacted all local dealerships including 4 separate Nissan Dealerships and only 1 brought a car for test drives - which left after a single test drive. The dealerships were generally poor at returning calls/emails, and waited weeks before I could even get them to say no. The BMW dealers (I contacted Open Road and Springfield), Nissan dealers, and GM were out of stock. The Farmer's Market organizer only allowed 2 cars inside the market. |
Montclair | Montclair, NJ | It was another good year for the Montclair, NJ NDEW event. We has 39 plug in vehicles come and BMW of Bloomfield brought four plug in cars for test drives. They had 40 test drives, and even had to end the test drives a little early because they ran out of test drive liability waivers! Montclair's Sustainability manager, Gray Russell came and stayed for the entire event, as did Chuck Feinberg, the Chairman of the NJ Clean Cities Coalition. Bob Russo, a councilman in Montclair also came and took a test drive. He and his wife are now shopping for a, EV! |
Morristown | Morristown, NJ | This was a good year in that we had a tremendous number of families come see us today. The event is held right in the heart of a very trendy area of Morristown NJ so even people walking by can't miss us. We had local stores along our street promoting us as well. The BMW dealer had 19 test drives in i3s, he could have had more but we ran out of time. There was a line of people waiting at one point - and those that drove some asked the dealer to call them. Visitors were everywhere looking at all of the cars. Our key EV draw was the 1917 Detroit Electric Model 68, a bright red Model X, BMW i8 and 2 BMW i3s for test drives as well as the owner cars that had visitors checking them out. Press was on site interviewing the drivers and some visitors. The non-profit sustainable partners I had with me, like Sustainable Morristown had very busy tables. This year was a fun NDEW, everyone had fun, lots of genuine smiles and electricity in the air. Looking forward to next year. |
Vincentown | Vincentown, NJ | We had a Coda owner drive from CT just to test ride a Zero motorcycle and display his car. Plenty of people got to test ride the Zero SR and the Zero DS motorcycles. We started a petition to include Zero motorcycles on NJ's list of zero emission vehicles that qualify for the state sales tax exemption. Members from the EEVC got to meet with members of NJEAA and educate the public. Plans are in place to add a charging station to this location by next years event. |
Santa Fe | Santa Fe, NM | Electric cars were part of the Parallel World Sustainability Showcase. Nissan and Chevy contributed to the event and a company called Bolt which rents Electric Cars took visitors for test drives in a Tesla S. At the last minute we were contacted by the Tesla Club of New Mexico called and brought cars for display including a Tesla X. |
Las Vegas | Las Vegas, NV | National Drive Electric Week in Las Vegas was staged at the Springs Preserve museum parking lot on Saturday, Sept. 10, from 10 AM to noon under a photovoltaic solar canopy that tracks the sun during the day and provided power two ChargePoint stations, each with two SAE J1772 AC Level 2 ports. DC Solar provided an additional solar-powered trailer with a third portable ChargePoint station that also had two AC Level 2 ports. Sponsoring organizations included Las Vegas Electric Vehicle Association, Sierra Club Toiyabe Chapter, Clean Energy Project, SolarNV, Las Vegas Motor Speedway, DC Solar, NV Energy, Verdek, ChargePoint and ClipperCreek, whose sales representative Erik Mason donated an HCS-40 AC Level 2 EVSE as a door prize. EVs included 10 Nissan LEAFs; five Chevrolet Volts; Tesla Motors Models X, S and Roadster; Mitsubishi i-MiEV, a vintage 1981 Jet Electrica, and custom 1987 Aztec Kit car conversion. |
Reno | Reno, NV | It went without any problems other than the Nissan promotion kit never arrived, and the promised local Nissan representative never showed, but we all had a great time talking to all the people that stopped by and asked questions. |
Binghamton | Binghamton, NY | Kia motors brought four Soul EV's and a bunch of volunteers. Seth Leitman who has written a lot of books on EV's gave a talk, also a representative from the New York State Energy Research and Development Agency spoke. Some local politicians and assembly people came to the event too. |
Delmar | Delmar, NY | This was our 4th event and the best one yet. Everyone I spoke to felt the same way. We had a record number of EVs at 60, test drives, foot traffic, and sunshine! EVs available for test drives: Fuccillo Kia brought three Soul EVs, Destination Nissan brought a new LEAF, DePaula Chevrolet brought a new Volt, and the local BMW dealer did not have an i3 in stock so one of their technicians brought his personal i3 for test drives! One of the Soul EVs was sold later that afternoon. Although it was a local event, we had EVs come in from Massachusettes and New Jersey as well. Speakers at this event: Doris Davis, Bethlehem Town Board David VanLuven, Bethlehem Town Board Pat Fahy, NY State Assemblywoman John Clarkson, Bethlehem Town Supervisor Paul Tonko, Congressman Aaron Mair. Sierra Club President Mark Warford, Vice Principal, Bethlehem Central Middle School William Reinhardt, Albany County Legislator |
Freeport | Freeport, NY | The following vehicles were on display one time or another at our event. - 5 BMW i3s - 1BMW SUV - 3 BMW i8s - 3 Teslas (i.e., 1S and 2 roadsters) - 1 Chevy Volt - 1 Ford C-Max Energi - 1 Nissan Leaf - 1 DeLorean converted to electric We also had 2 solar companies present, Solar City and Empower. Turnout was extremely light compared to past events, thought to be attributable to the fact that it was held in a dealership parking lot, great weather for people to go to the beach, and people attending to school needs for their kids. |
Pleasantville | Pleasantville, NY | We teamed up with the largest Farmers Market in the county and ran an EV Showcase. Gaining access to a Farmers Market that normally has 2,500+ people each Saturday was great. This year, they had almost 2,900 that Sat, and our EV showcase was at the biggest entrance which means over 1,700 passed through our EV showcase. The showcase was inside the market and was limited (due to space) to 4 EVs (Model X, Model S, Nissan Leaf, and Chevy Volt). I also made sure to have a female owner/driver of an EV (Leaf) since the Farmers Market is shopped by more women than men and I wanted to make sure to connect with them. Advertising was done via 8.5/11" flyers at about 10 nearby coffee shops and green markets (1 week before) and the market itself (they sent out emails re: the event repeatedly). They had signage day of, and we posted our lawn signs throughout the market as well. The mayor came by and I gave him a test drive in a Model X and then he signed the ZEV petition. Total success. |
Poughkeepsie | Poughkeepsie, NY | The Hudson Valley EV group put on an Electric Car Show at the Poughkeepsie Galleria. Over 20 cars including eight different models were on display. KIA provided test drives in their SOUL EV and they were busy all day long. The Dutchess County department of planning chair was there, as well as a county legislator and they were both delighted by the show and came away with a greater understanding of EVs and our infrastructure needs. Other highlights of the event included a Signature Tesla Model X and a Zero motorcycle. All in all a great afternoon! |
Rochester | Rochester, NY | Our event went well as planned. Speakers included: Bob Kanauer - NDEW Rochester Event City Captain Mike Nolan - Owner of I-Square David Seeley - Supervisor, Town of Irondequoit Joseph Robach - NYS Senator Jason Kennedy - Deputy Director of Monroe County Department of Environmental Services Kathleen Benedetti-Fisher - NY Electric Vehicle Initiative Representative, Sierra Club Volunteers included: New York State Electric Auto Association Mark Thorn Bill LaBine Bob Kanauer Genesee Region Clean Communities David Keefe Anne Spaulding Mike Moser Bob Barker Kristy Graves Sierra Club Kat Fisher - NY Electric Vehicle Initiative Representative Jeff Debes – Rochester Region EVs included a VW Bug Conversion and a Police Car - A Chevy Volt - from the Rochester Police Department We were presented with a Proclamation from the City of Rochester, presented by Jason Kennedy - Deputy Director of Monroe County Department of Environmental Services. |
Syracuse | Syracuse, NY | Syracuse "Drive and Shine" event was held on Sunday, Sept. 11 from 12-5 pm at the City of Syracuse parking lot at W. Washington Street and S. Salina St., in the heart of downtown. The lot has 15 charging stations that were installed several years ago by a private company that had received ARRA funds. The event included display of 15 electric vehicles, representing a wide variety of makes and models, 2 electric bicycles, and displays from 6 solar PV installers. In addition, Sunny 102 radio did a live broadcast from the event, there were four local musicians and two food trucks from local vendors. Several New York State legislators were in attendance and a representative of the Syracuse Common Council. Several local TV stations did live interviews and covered the event on their evening news programs. A company offered free car detailing services for our volunteers, and CarCharging/Blink offered free charging for the volunteers during the event. |
Jones Beach | Wantagh, NY | We had the Mirai display at our event. There are only 2 or 3 in the country! |
White Plains | White Plains, NY | We hosted representatives from BMW, Ford and Nissan; 15 cars on display and/or available for test drive; 8 different models represented. NYPA's CEO Gil Quiniones was in attendance to celebrate NYPA's commitment to expanding EV infrastructure across NY State, and NYPA's own Workplace Charging Program. |
Cincinnati | Cincinnati, OH | Workhorse Group was awarded an Environmental Leadership Award at the first ever National Drive Electric Week event held in Cincinnati on Sept 17th. The award was given in Recognition of their Contribution to Sustainable Transportation. They have developed an extremely energy efficient and reliable electric drive train for class 3 to 6 truck chassis, which they are now in the process of delivering to customers like UPS, FedEx and Alpha Baking. They are also now finalists to replace the USPS fleet. The drive train is setting a new standard for energy efficiency and emission control for the trucking industry. It will undoubtedly be of great benefit for the environment. It replaces the extremely energy inefficient, air polluting, green house gas emitting diesel and gas powered drive trains currently in common use. This award was recently established in honor of Sister Paula Gonzales, a Sister of Charity, and former Professor of Biology at Mount St. Joseph University in Cincinnati. |
Columbus | Columbus, OH | At our event, we had 5 Nissan LEAFs, a Chevy Volt, a Tesla Model X, 6 Tesla Model S's, a BYD E6, a Ford CMAX Hybrid, and a Ford Fusion Energi. The BYD E6 and several of our Nissan LEAFs and Teslas were available for attendees to ride in or drive. We also had Ohio EV Solutions and Ohio Power Solutions out to talk to attendees about charging electric vehicles and renewable solar energy. Ohio State University's Lego Club brought out kits for kids at the event to build lego cars, and the Buckeye Current electric motorcycle team and OSU EcoCar team were present to talk about their electric vehicle projects. We also had a Nissan representative present to help us release a Columbus electric vehicle group buy program. |
Perrysburg | Perrysburg, OH | Rain haunted our September 10 event. We had planned for a rain-date of the 18th, but it would be too complicated to drag everyone else in for a second time, let alone re-advertise the event. The local Leaf dealer was a bomb, not even bringing a vehicle to the event. I supplied a Leaf owned by a EAA of NWO member. There were, perhaps, about sixty people at the four hour event, about fifteen ride-and-drives and a host of onlookers and passers-by. A short rain began before the event, and likely had an affect on the overall attendance. Rain subsided before noon and stayed sunny until about 2pm. After 2pm there were a few hit-miss showers that significantly slowed the foot traffic to the site. |
Oklahoma City | Oklahoma City, OK | This event was held at the former Downtown OKC Airpark, now called the Wheeler District. EV's were displayed near the Wheeler District Ferris Wheel, a new and popular destination near Downtown OKC. Test drives and rides were given on what had previously been runways for small planes. We had lots of interest from folks just coming to see the Ferris Wheel and we hope to return to this venue next year. Participating organizations included: Oklahoma City Electric Vehicle Club, Association of Central OK Governments (ACOG), Central Oklahoma Clean Cities Coalition, OG&E, City of OKC, Bob Howard Chevrolet, Jackie Cooper BMW |
Florence | Florence, OR | This was the first time we attempted to have an event in Florence. The site wasn't as good as we would have liked, but was the best we could do on short notice. Materials were never received from Nissan, even though they were ordered. We heard reports from other captains that they didn't receive materials also. Fortunately another captain brought banners, and other materials from a previous event, or we would have had no way to attract drivers on highway 101 to the event. We hope to have a more visible site next year. We were also competing with a hot rod show event in old town Florence, and the organizers were contacted, but returned our calls to late to secure space for our event in the old town area. It was a great learning experience/ first attempt and we can use the knowledge gained to reach more people next year. We have no photos of this year's event yet. |
Lincoln City | Lincoln City, OR | We had 8 beautiful EVs with knowledgeable owners on hand to answer questions, including one from Power Kia in Salem. The dealer rep indicated the event was totally worth their time and was very enthusiastic about the response to the Soul EV. Many more car show participants lingered in the EV area this year, although most were shy about actually driving a car. One couple from Los Angeles, previous NDEW event organizers, dropped by on their travels. Dave's bright yellow Tesla Roadster won one of the awards for the car show and it was nice the EV group got some recognition. Many thanks to Cruisin' the Bay Car Show for again allowing us space to display the EVs and to Oregon Beach Vacations for covering registration fees and driver gifts. Oregon Beach Vacations, Oregon Electric Vehicle Association, and Central Lincoln PUD also contributed to the Cruisin' general fund to help with the show. Each year gets better and there was clearly more excitement this year about electric cars. |
Springfield | Springfield, OR | The event took place at the BRING Home and Garden Show After party so we were able to gather a large crowd. EWEB Commissioner John Simpson was there and State Representative Phil Barnhart also attended. |
Cranberry Township | Cranberry Township, PA | This was our second year associated with National Drive Electric Week and showed significant growth from last year. We had almost double the cars and a constant flow of rides and drives over a prescribed route (all right turns.) A local Nissan dealer, Kenny Ross, displayed a 2015 Leaf deeply discounted 'Show Special.' Star Transportation, a local limousine company brought a Tesla model X that was the star of the show attracting a crowd watching the rear doors open and close. We had 12 owners who signed up as no-shows, but had several non- sign ups drop in. Our expected attendance was held down significantly by having the unfortunate luck in having our event at the same time as the Pitt-Penn State football game. Some late arrivers drove in after the game. Our EV show was part of a larger event, Go Green Festival, featuring vendors and displays promoting renewable energy. We feel this a natural tie-in with EV's being charged with Solar or wind generated power. |
Kennett Square | Kennett Square, PA | The day started early with a meetup and group drive from the Hilton Garden Inn, Kennett Square, PA. Every attendee received a Drive Electric Car flag. We took a scenic drive on back roads to the Mushroom Festival's 2016 Antique and Classic Car Show, where we lined up along tree lined S. Broad street, between Juniper St. and Mulberry St. Members of the Eastern Electric Vehicle Assn. and MD Volt spent the day discussing the benefits of driving electric, while taking breaks to walk the festival, cool off, get a bite to eat and visit Tesla Motor's Model S display. We spoke to over 1,000 people. Attendees also got to sit in a 1916 Rauch and Lang Electric Car and talk with a representative of the Marshall Steam Museum. The event also featured 3 electric motorcycles and several couples who had not just 1, but 2 EVs in the garage. Owners donated over $500 to charity by supporting this event! Our photo displays 100 years of technology advancement, connecting the future with the past. |
State College | State College, PA | We had a wonderful mix of cars and people. We hope to make this an annual event and grow it from here. Our local paper wrote a story: http://www.centredaily.com/news/local/community/state-college/article102630792.html |
Wayne | Wayne, PA | We had a smaller event that we did our best to put together with limited time to prepare and promote. Tesla Model S & X, Nissan Leaf and Chevy Volt were displayed in the parking lot from 5-6 pm. Then we went inside Bertucci's for two presentations. Michael Craner, owner of a Tesla Roadster, Model S & Model X, discussed the technical and ethical challenges of developing the software for autonomous vehicles. Tony Cotton, founder of Energy Conscious LLC and the owner of a Nissan Leaf, discussed the need to consider the holistic nature of clean energy systems and how to connect the dots between solar PV, EVs, and smart homes. Key points were: • EVs are a key component of a clean energy future and are fun, clean and affordable • Solar PV is also important and can power your EV with sunlight • Market Penetration Caps are cleared with repurposed EV packs and Smart Power electronics • Using DC directly leverages synergies of multiple technologies and most cost effective energy reductions |
Aiken | Aiken, SC | This was Aiken SC first EV show. We kept it to two hours, a bluegrass band played and a 4h robotics team, everyone had a good time. Skipper Perry, a former State House of Representative showed up on his Segway. Two Teslas came & they carried the show. We had a hodgepodge of EVs. The two teslas, two LEAFS, Zero Motorcycle, EV converted truck, Skipper's Segway, Aiken Police Dept. Service car, golf cart with a snow cone machine on it , plus two electric bicycles. One was a EV conversion made by a high school student who is selling his EV conversion kit on the internet fastandquite.com . He also did the EV truck conversion for the truck that showed up. A news paper reporter said that this is the type of kid who is going to invent the warp drive. |
Bluffton | Bluffton, SC | Our event was an electric vehicle parade which we drove around town and stopped at four different locations to speak with people about the benefits of owning and driving electric vehicles. |
Columbia | Columbia, SC | Seven car dealerships sponsored and six displayed cars (Chevy, Nissan, BMW, Porsche, Volvo, Mitsubishi and Ford). A 20' x 30' tent hosted our non-profit groups (HS robotics team, Keep the Midlands Beautiful, local scholarship fund, Palmetto State Clean Fuels Coalition (main sponsor), Nationwide Insurance (sponsor), ChargePoint, Yes Solar (Sponsor). Partnered with Whole Foods to hold the event in a large section of their parking lot. They provided the "Giving Grill": $5 lunch with all proceeds to our charities. No speeches or formal discussions. Lots of education 1-1 with volunteers talking about their cars and ownership experience. Twenty EV owner's cars on display from 3 Tesla Model Xs to Mitsubishi I-MiEV. |
Germantown | Germantown, TN | Our Germantown event was quieter this year due to the weather. Some early rain, and then nice sun in the low 80s. Whole Foods Market was gracious to host our event. They provided us with the entire side row for parking our electric vehicles, and the use of their 2 Level 2 chargers. EV attendance was exceptional, most mass produced EV and plug in was represented at our event. They included 1 Mitsubishi Miev, 3 Chevy Volts, 1 Toyota plug in Prius, 1 Nissan Leaf, 1 BMW 330e, and 3 Tesla Model S. 2 dealerships attended, Sierra Chevrolet & Roadshow BMW. Chevy brought the new 2107 Volt, which they sold at the event, and BMW provided the plugin 330e for people to check out. The Whole Foods Customers, and their employees, were drawn to the cars. Clint brought his big tent, which helped keep the rain and sun at bay. |
Kingsport | Kingsport, TN | The goal of showing all 22 charging stations in use at Eastman was met and then some, as 27 plug-in cars and their owners showed up to the event to help inform the public of cleaner driving electric vehicles. 130 people signed waivers for rides and/or drives, with the vast majority of those taking multiple rides. We estimate about 400 drives were taken by the public that afternoon. Not everyone signed especially those that just came to look and ask a few questions. I estimate more than 300 people stopped by to learn more about sustainability and electric vehicles with slightly more than half being Eastman employees. We generated a lot of positive press as we were featured on WETS-FM Community Forum with two 30 minute spots, WCBY news and front page of Kingsport Times News. • WETS-FM Community Forum, now as a Podcast http://winkler.podhoster.com/index.php?pid=45360. • WCYB featured the event on the news. https://www.facebook.com/moose.mcgree/videos/1186853408052351/ • K |
Knoxville | Knoxville, TN | We got permission to use the parking lot of an extremely busy mile long shopping district. We setup adjacent to the Tesla Superchargers that are located there. We had about 21 plug-in and hybrid vehicles show up. Including the local power company brought out their plug-in bucket trucks and they were a big hit. Along with a brand new Tesla Model X that stole a lot of the attention. We also had a locally designed 3 wheel roadster called the Defiant and the owner/designer on hand to show it off. We had random groupings of the public show up through out the day to look over the EV's and to get test drives. Local dealers from Nissan and BMW were offering test drives as well as owners of their EV's giving out test drives. I believe we can do a better job of promoting this event next year in print and radio media to drive a bigger public turn out. That being said I believe everyone had a great time! |
Knoxville | Knoxville, TN | We hosted our NDEW event outside of UT's Neyland Stadium before a football game. We were located outside of the main entrance, and the stadium holds 100,000 people, so we easily were seen by at least 30,000 people. We counted the conversations we had with people about our cars and NDEW, and had over 100 one-on-one conversations. We are able to reach a wide array of people since the football game is enjoyed by so many East Tennesseeans. |
Memphis | Memphis, TN | Our Memphis event was quieter this year due to the weather and a popular event. Some early clouds, and then nice sun in the low 80s. Whole Foods Market was gracious to host our event. They provided us with the entire front row for parking our electric vehicles, and the use of their Level 2 charger. EV attendance was good, most mass produced EV and plug in were represented at our event. They included 1 Mitsubishi Miev, 2 Chevy Volts, 1 Ford Fusion plug in, 2 Nissan Leafs, 1 BMW i3 and 330e, and 1 Tesla Model S. 2 dealerships attended, Sierra Chevrolet & Roadshow BMW. Chevy brought the Chevy Volt, and BMW provided the plugin 330e for people to check out. The Whole Foods Customers, and their employees, were drawn to the cars. Clint brought his big tent, which helped keep the sun at bay. |
Pigeon Forge | Pigeon Forge, TN | We were positioned in an area with constant high pedestrian traffic so were prohibited from moving the cars to do any ride/drive activities. |
Austin | Austin, TX | Councilmember Leslie Pool (District 7) began the morning with remarks on the importance of EVs to Austin's community climate protection goal of net-zero carbon by 2050. We had sliders and grilled cheese prepared by a former Austin Assistant City Manager for City utilities, who is also a chef and owner of a green biker bar called Rolling thunder Roadhouse. The mini-solar electric racers were especially a hit with the kids who migrated over after their soccer practice ended. Both feature presentations by Smart Charge Residential and Austin Energy EV programs were well-attended by more than 30 people with lots of questions for our presenters. We even had an electric drone taking some aerial photos of our event! We look forward to putting on 2017's NDEW Austin event downtown on Electric Drive! |
Grapevine | Grapevine, TX | The North Texas NDEW event again beat (our own!) Texas record for EVs gathered in one place. Over 400 people registered for the event. Twelve public, non-profit, and industry exhibitors displayed their vehicles and chatted with attendees. State Representative Giovanni Capriglione and Regional Transportation Council Member Mike Taylor gave remarks about the impact of electric vehicles on the regional economy and air quality. We also had huge representation from the North Texas Tesla Owners Group, with 47 Tesla Model S's and 5 Model X's registered! Attendees had four chances to win extended experiences with EVs -- a weekend each with the Nissan LEAF, Chevy Volt, and BMW i3 and 24 hours with a Tesla Model S, thanks to our generous exhibitors, and there were games and food. The hours listed above really represent only day-of work combined from 8 staff members. This event is a MAJOR undertaking for us and involves many hours of planning and coordinating over the course of several months. |
Houston | Houston, TX | This was a great EVent for EV enthusiasts in the greater Houston TX area. Several organizations participated: Houston Electric Auto Association, Houston Tesla Owners Group, Sierra Club, Representatives from: Nissan, Houston-Galveston Area Council, CenterPoint, IKEA. This IKEA store has always been great in supporting this EVent. Particularly Kae Bruney. This EVent serves two purposes. It gives a venue for all EV aficionados in the greater Houston TX area to get together and express their excitement and personal EV stories among themselves and others that come to the EVent. Get people that are interested in EV's to see them, touch them, sit in them, ride in them, and drive in them so that they can get the information that each and everyone of them needs to purchase an EV. |
San Antonio | San Antonio, TX | The San Antonio national Drive Electric Event was held this year at the Pearl Farmers Market near downtown San Antonio. This definitely increased the number of people reached this year for the event. In addition to stationary electric vehicles parked in the middle of the farmers market, we had various cars available for test drives and test rides. The new addition this year was a pair of electric motorcycles. Of course, the Tesla Model X was a hit. |
Ivins | Ivins, UT | In addition to the plug-in cars available, a bike dealer brought a half-dozen e-bikes for attendees to ride. For the first NDEW in this isolated area, I think that it went well, with a decent turnout: 76 attendees, 14 rides given, 12 test drives, 15 plug-in vehicles (6 LEAFs, 4 Volts, 3 Model S, 1 Model X, 1 C-Max Energi). The Stephen Wade Chevrolet and Nissan dealerships were more than helpful and generous. The feedback I have received from attendees has all been positive so far. The highlight of the gathering was that an unregistered Tesla Model X showed up which obviously attracted a great deal of attention and envy. I deeply appreciate Kayenta for allowing us to sponsor the celebration in the parking lots of the Coyote Gulch Art Village. I have posted a description of the EV'ent with more photos on my EV website: |
Murray | Murray, UT | The weather was fantastic, we started at 11 am and had a DJ, setup started at about 8 am in the morning. Our normal venue was being demolished but I think we did fine. A bit more shade would have been helpful. We started off with a prize drawing and there were only about 20 tickets in the tumbler so everyone had a great chance. Tim Dahle Nissan and Nissan put in about $3300 in Prizes and another $700 or so was brought by speakers and other car manufacturers. People from Blue Monkey Bicycles, Zero Motorcycles, Tesla, Utah Green News, Purpleair.org, University of Utah UDrive, Utah Clean Energy, Utah Clean Cities, NRG EVGo, Nissan, Joshnsavesenergy.com spoke and the crowd I think was appreciative and attentive and of course loved the prizes. There were drinks, Sept. 12, 2016 – In a joint press conference today, the University of Utah and Salt Lake City will announce the launch of an electric vehicle purchase program extending discounts on multiple makes and models of vehicles. |
Arlington | Arlington, VA | We started bright and early in a very lovely part of Arlington, 8 minutes from Courthouse Metro, a few blocks from I66 and right next to the lovely McCoy Park. We had 3 Model S come for the first shift, while my best helper, Purcell Artis, helped me move our Tesla friends around and Denis Dineen's 5-year old Chevy Volt. Soon after, Dan Hale regaled us with his unique to Virginia, Powder Blue Chevy Spark EV. #CO2Fre was on display next to Purcell's Model S (pictured) for most of the event and Purcell did a great job chatting with folks, while event captain Jeffrey C. Jacobs gave out raffle tickets and coordinated logistics. Around noon Miriam from Arlington Weekly news came by and recruited Purcell to interview some of our EV drivers including Victor Rodriguez, who arrived in my favourite Focus Electric. Later, Mosiac Videographer Cliff Jacobs stopped by to check us out and Sean Ryan brought his Volt to end the day with us at 17:00. Special thanks to Anna at MOM's for hosting. |
Richmond | Richmond, VA | Richmond's 3rd annual NDEW celebration found several ways to engage EV owners and those who are interested in learning more about EVs. Two teams, one driving a Model S and the other in an i3, competed in a road rally on 9/10/16 that began in Ashland, Va., at the Richmond Electricians' JATC and ended at the NDEW event in Woodbridge, Va. A meet-up on 9/12/16 was poorly attended, but it placed a privately owned Nissan LEAF and a Polaris GEM Car operated by Buck Ward on a busy street corner along Broad Street. Our big gathering of EV owners and enthusiasts on 9/17/16 was held at Chesterfield Towne Center, thanks to the help of sponsors from the solar power, auto repair and service, and other industries. Total attendance was 68 people compared to 105 in 2015 and 68 in 2014. While attendance was down this year, we strengthened existing relationships with local businesses and made new connections with EV owners ... and maybe swayed some folks to consider going electric! |
Virginia Beach | Virginia Beach, VA | Event was planned very last minute with only two weeks to go. Received very no material from NDEW or Nissan because it was too late. Got some NDEW banners and signs from Charles Gerena-Drive ElectricRVA in Richmond VA. Got some material to hand out from Alleyn Haynerd-Virginia Clean Cities. Got a few last minute companies to show up from Solar Services, Sierra Club, and Surfrider Foundation. Was too late to get any dealers to bring test drive cars. The closest Chevy dealer didn't have any Volts anyway. The closes BMW dealer didn't have any i3's but was kind enough to let their "i-genius" come by with an X540e. Next year I plan t0 have all the dealers there an many local "related" businesses. |
Woodbridge | Woodbridge, VA | The event started out low-key but picked up as the day grew. First we had one Zero, eventually two, a Spark, another LEAF, and even some non-participant EVs. We taught visitors about NRG eVgo and about how silent even the electric bikes are. Around 13:30 the first of the #Richmond2Woodbridge rally cars arrived with Richmond organizer Charles Gerena as a BMW i3, then one, then two Tesla Model S, the second, and relay prize winner, Lanny Hartmann, regaled us while taking time out from his busy work at http://pluginsites.org/. As things wore down, Charles and I grabbed a pizza and some wings and then I manned the booth until 17:00 when MOM's Organic Market helped clean up. Alas, Supervisor Principi was unable to attend though gave his regards. And there was no time to get a plaque made to recognize Drive Electric Week but overall my first Drive Electric Week event in Manassas was a success and I would say my last in Woodbridge was equally great and the start of something bigger! |
Burlington | Burlington, VT | We had 10 EV models on display/available for test drives, along with owners sharing experiences and local experts on hand to answer questions. Ben and Jerry's brought their "Save Our Swirled" Tesla and scooped ice cream out of the trunk! |
Williston | Williston, VT | We had a nice spot in the parking lot of a Hannaford Supermarket which has EVgo Level 2 and DC Fast Charging available. A mix of vehicles, including Nissan LEAFs, Ford CMax Energi, Smart ED, Chevrolet Volts, VW e-Golfs, and a Honda Accord Plug-in Hybrid. Signage along the busy Marshall Avenue alerted people to the event and many test drives and rides were given with smiles around. Many of the public joining for the ride and drive were actively shopping for an EV, including a few VW diesel owners. |
Bellingham | Bellingham, WA | For the second year in a row, North Sound EVA put on an outstanding electric car show! At least 30 plug-in vehicles attended, and many members of the public attended to talk to owners and go on test rides/drives. We had a large variety in models this year, with 12 different models represented. |
Issaquah | Issaquah, WA | We had pretty good attendance at the show. The morning started out slow, (yeah, sunday morning before church let out...and the weather the day before was pretty wet) but once we got nearer to noon, things picked up quite a bit. One owner said "I actually had 3 different people come talk to me about converting a truck they owned (to all electric). Quite a few of the students from the three high school robotics teams were very interested. The robotics teams create a bit of excitement and exposes the students and their parents to the varied types of EVs. We had two Tesla Model X and they were hits. Due to insurance concerns we did our test drives as part of the raffle. The rides will be at the dealer closest to the winners. To encourage early registration anyone who registered got one raffle ticket with the drawing at 1pm to encourage folks to stay thru most of the day. |
Liberty Lake | Liberty Lake, WA | It was a rainy, soggy day which was not good for the event. Yet we got a great spread of cars including a Miata conversion, Smart ED, BMW X5 PHEV along with the usual Nissan and Tesla participants. Not as many people were heading through the next door Farmer's Market as we would have liked, so it turned into sort of a club meeting with like-minded people exchanging ideas. We're already talking about next year. Our local power company representative and a Genius from BMW were exchanging thoughts about how to get dealerships willingly involved. A big thanks to BMW, who were the only dealer to show up despite previous involvement from Nissan and Porsche. City Council candidate Andrew Biviano was in attendance. CBS affiliate KREM2 did a short news piece on the event with a brief interview with me, in which I urged the public to drive an EV. All the ecological and economical talk does not compare to the quiet, powerful sensation of taking one for a spin. |

These were static displays and we wanted to see how we would go as EVangelists in a traditional petrol-vehicle environment. The response was very positive. People were curious about the cars and we talked ALOT about charging! As Chelsea Sexton says the main questions were how far? how do you charge? how long to charge? how much $? how fast? Looking forward to next year already! We were going to offer test rides outside but then decided to send them to the two dealers who had trade stands for test drives. And we have four other EV owners test ride things coming up next month. |
