National Drive Electric Week - Silkeborg
|Days:||September 10-11, 2016 NOTE: this event has already happened, find current-year events on the events page.|
Silkeborg, Denmark 8600
FDEL is Forendede Danske Elbilister; direct translation: United Danish Electric Car Drivers. We are a NPO run on volunteer workforce.
Our goals are to promote EV's in Denmark.
In Silkeborg, Denmark (Europe) there is grand opening a new motorway that goes through the city and connects Herning and Aarhus through Silkeborg. FDEL is officially invited to join the opening party by the National Danish Road Agency (http://vejdirektoratet.dk). The opening party (http://www.vejfest.dk) will be from 8th thorugh 11th of September, including bicycle race, skating, running and walking events on the motorway.
In the center of the opening party we are running our "FDEL Classic" setup. We meet other citizens and talk about EV's. We will have electric cars for testdrives and the import companies and leasing companies which do EV's will also be attending our "fair". This fair will be Saturday 10th + Sunday 11th of September 2016.
On the 10th and untill the parade all parade cars will be gathered around 5 km's from the motorway at a motoring racetrack (Jyllandsringen), there will be different EV activities.
On the 11th of September FDEL are officially invited to drive in a parade as the first cars ever on the new motorway.
The ribbon will be cut by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark around 16.45-17.00.
Untill the ribon is cut there will be an exhibition of the parading cars on the motorway. People will be able to ask drivers questions. The parade is consisting of 4 parties.
#1 is Silkeborg Flytteforretning (http://www.silkeborg-flytteforretning.dk/), an in Denmark well known moving company (started 1904), they will attend with 3 of their movingtrucks,
#2 is 3 vintage/classic fire engines from a local Fire museum (https://jyskbrandmuseum.dk/),
#3 is SportsCarEvent (http://sportscarevent.dk/) which is a NPO which offers rides in exotic cars (Denmark has 150% vehicle tax and general high taxes which makes distribution of wealth, which is why very very few is poor and also very few is very rich - that makes exotic cars more exotic in Denmark than other countries which makes it possible for them to charge very high prices for driving in the passenger seats) - the owners of the cars drive the cars and get nothing to attend, the full profits from the rides goes to charity (Childrens cancer association of Denmark) The cars will be Lambo's, Ferrari's, Butagttis etc.
#4 is FDEL, we hope to get 300+ cars to attend so we can break the Guinness World Record.
After the ribbon is cut the 4 parties will drive as the first cars on the motorway.
It will be a spectacular experience for the audience, who will be on the other side of the crash barriers in the eastbound track.
All the noise from the "dinosaur cars" and then 300+ EV's in silence.
We expect that Rufus Gifford, U.S. Ambassador to the Kingdom of Denmark will be in our parade and perhaps also our Crown Prince - otherwise he will be at the ribbonline waving at all the passing cars. Other VIPs will be there too.
The idea of trying to break the World Record is to gain visiblity for the EV cause. In Denmark our parliament introduced vehicle tax this year on EV's. Untill 2016 there has been vehicle tax exemption in 30 years in Denmark. From 2016 there is 20% of the 150% vehicle tax. We want to send a signal to the citizens of Denmark and our politicians.
We expect massive national press but also european press.
We currently have participants signed up from Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Germany.
There are currently 4 attendees registered.
