Event Report

We considered the event to be successful. Most of the attendees were seriously interested in leasing/buying an electric car. The event was held in a very busy shopping center so a considerable number of passersby stopped to look at the cars and take test drives. The Nissan LEAF, BMW i3, smart electric drive, Mercedes B-Class, and Kia dealers were most helpful in offering test drives. VW and Ford only came reluctantly for a short time. The Fiat dealer refused to bring the Fiat 500e. The Chevy dealer was asked to bring a Chevy Spark EV, but brought a Volt instead and ran the gas engine to charge the car. We usually do not allow any cars with gas engines at our events, even if they are plug in hybrids.

The event was sponsored by the Transportation Authority of Marin using license plate fees earmarked to promote alternate fuel vehicles, PG&E (local electric utility), and MCE Clean Energy (local Community Choice Aggregation electricity provider). Dealers did not have to pay.

Event Description

The Marin County Drive Electric Week will feature test drives of most of the 12 electric cars available to Marin drivers.  Electric bikes will also be available for test drives.  Test drive the Nissan LEAF, Mercedes B-class electric, BMW i3, smart electric drive, Kia Soul EV, Chevy Spark, Chevy Volt plug in hybrid, and more.  Learn about EV charging options and check out electric bicycles.
