Event Report

National Drive Electric Week in Las Vegas was staged at the Springs Preserve museum parking lot on Saturday, Sept. 10, from 10 AM to noon under a photovoltaic solar canopy that tracks the sun during the day and provided power two ChargePoint stations, each with two SAE J1772 AC Level 2 ports. DC Solar provided an additional solar-powered trailer with a third portable ChargePoint station that also had two AC Level 2 ports.

Sponsoring organizations included Las Vegas Electric Vehicle Association, Sierra Club Toiyabe Chapter, Clean Energy Project, SolarNV, Las Vegas Motor Speedway, DC Solar, NV Energy, Verdek, ChargePoint and ClipperCreek, whose sales representative Erik Mason donated an HCS-40 AC Level 2 EVSE as a door prize.

EVs included 10 Nissan LEAFs; five Chevrolet Volts; Tesla Motors Models X, S and Roadster; Mitsubishi i-MiEV, a vintage 1981 Jet Electrica, and custom 1987 Aztec Kit car conversion.

Event Description

The Las Vegas Springs Preserve will be the local southern Nevada site for the annual National Drive Electric Week gathering on Saturday, September 10, 2016 from 10 AM to 2 PM.

The event will be staged in the museum parking lot under an array of photovoltaic solar panels that automatically track the sun. Two ChargePoint stations with four SAE J1772 AC Level 2 ports are available to recharge visiting electric vehicles at no cost.

This year's event is sponsored by the Las Vegas Electric Vehicle Association, a local chapter of the international Electric Auto Association, with support from the Toiyabe chapter of the Sierra Club, the Nevada Electric Vehicle Accelerator (NEVA) program from REA250.org, Las Vegas Tesla Owners, Clean Energy Project, SolarNV, Verdek, ClipperCreek, NV Energy,  Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Nissan, and other automobile dealerships to be announced.

The third annual Electric Juice Bar Crawl will once again feature a caravan of EVs, who will tour and visit public charging sites around town, as well as give attendees an opportunity to ride in different models of electric cars.

ClipperCreek has donated a model HCS-40 charging station that will be raffled off on behalf of the Las Vegas Electric Vehicle Association, to support the non-profit organization's educational outreach efforts. The model HCS-40 is an SAE J1772 AC Level 2 system, with a maximum output rating of 208 VAC at 32 Amps and requires a 40-Amp circuit breaker for garage installation.

Come join the fun to learn about the convenience and performance of electric cars available at local dealerships today, the abundance of EV charging station sites in southern Nevada, and the different organizations around the Las Vegas valley that support them. Free refreshments and drinks will be provided.
