Event Report

The 2020 event was the third annual National Drive Electric Week (NDEW) event to be held at Saybrook Point Pavilion in Old Saybrook.

Prior to the event 34 people registered on the NDEW website. Pre-event registrations included 12 EVs (10 separate models). EV models shown at the event were brought by EV owner/drivers as well as EV dealers and included the Chevrolet Bolt; Tesla Models 3, S and X; Hyundai Ioniq Plug-In Hybrid; Hyundai KONA Electric; Subaru Crosstrek PHEV; Mercedes CLE 550e; and Toyota Prius Prime PHEV.

Saybook Point is a popular town park near the mouth of the Connecticut River. The weather was crisp, sunny and breezy with many visitors visiting the park on foot or bicycle. Many attendees happened upon the event as passersby at Saybrook Point. Actual counts of people indicated that approximately 120 total individuals attended during the two-hour period.

At our information table, we distributed flyers and brochures about the cost-saving and clean-air advantages of driving an EV, including those provided by Plug In America and the Electric Auto Association.

We wish to thank the Town of Old Saybrook First Selectman’s Office for helping to promote the third annual NDEW event in Old Saybrook.

"Electrify Your Drive!"

A Free EV Car Show and Information Session

We are planning a “live” in-person event on 3 October 2020, 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., at Saybrook Point Pavilion.

In addition, we encourage everyone to join the national online “NDEW Kick-Off Event” on 24 September:

Learn about the electrifying future of transportation and why your next car, truck or SUV will be an EV! There is no need to wait: the future is already here!

Live, In-Person EVent at Saybrook Point Pavilion

For the third consecutive year, our live, in-person 2020 EVent will be held at Saybrook Point Pavilion on 3 October, 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Because of safety precautions related to the pandemic, this event will be scaled down compared to previous years.

Experienced EV owners will display their EVs and will discuss why they are enthusiastic about their all-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles and how they use them on their daily commutes and longer distance drives, as well as how they charge the cars’ batteries.

Owners of EVs and plug-In hybrid vehicles are encouraged to register for this live event and to bring their vehicles for all or part of the event. Start by clicking on the "Participate" button above. We encourage attendees (non-owners of EVs or plug-in hybrids) to register for this event by clicking on the “RSVP” button above; you will receive updates about the event.

Participants will learn about the differences between electric vehicles and conventional gas-powered cars (including why electric vehicles are much less expensive to operate and maintain), the widespread locations and different types of charging stations, the wide range of EV models available now and the much wider range of EVs to be released in the near future. The event will also highlight the benefits of electric vehicles for the environment and for public health.

Attendees will receive informational handouts and will also learn about special savings programs for Connecticut EV drivers, including state rebates and federal tax credits, for purchasing and leasing electric vehicles.

Safety Measures for Live, In-Person EVent:

In compliance with state health requirements, participants must wear face masks and maintain “social distancing” with a six-foot radius. Hand sanitizer will be provided.

Old Saybrook First Selectman Carl Fortuna will present a proclamation naming 26 September–4 October as “2020 Old Saybrook Drive Electric Week.”
