Time: | 11 - 5 |
Location: | 100 Block of W. State St, Ithaca, NY 14850 107 W. State St Ithaca, NY 14850 |
Hello Everyone,
My name is Jim Klafehn. After attending all of the central/upstate NY events for the past 2 years I have been toying with the idea of hosting an event in Ithaca. Ithaca is a "progressive" town and is a perfect place to host a NDEW event. So, I have decided to volunteer as an event organizer for 2016. There are already many EV's around town and I'm sure this event will be extremely popular.
Location:
The event will be held on the 100 Block of West State St in Ithaca, NY 14850, from 11am to 5pm. Google, State Theater and Gorgers restaurant, that's where we will be. The City of Ithaca has agreed to close down the street for us.
Charging:
There is a Chademo and SAE Combo fast charging station only 4 blocks away at Dianne's Automotive. If you need a charge try to get there early so you can top off then bring your car to the event. If you need to leave it there during the show, it is a short, flat 5 minute walk to get back to the event. Hopefully you won't need to leave it though because we want to see your car at the show! There are many charging stations in the downtown area. Some are free and some are not. Check Plugshare.com for more info. I have charging stations at all of my rental properties. If you need to use one send me an email and we can set it up. I have 30 and 40 amp charging available.
Showing your vehicle:
If you would like to showcase your vehicle please arrive around 10:30 - 11 am so we can park your car. Please enter W. State St at the W. State St/Geneva St intersection.
It is up to you how you would like to display your EV. I usually open all doors and allow people to sit in it and get a feel for it. Because of my car's rarity (2014 Rav4 EV) I don't offer test drives but that is an option that you can offer people. If you don't want anyone inside of your vehicle, that's totally fine. You can leave the windows closed and doors locked. It all depends on how much access you are comfortable giving people. All we ask is that you are around to watch your own vehicle and talk with guests. Remember, the main goal of NDEW organizers is community outreach and educating people on EVs. If you are comfortable offering test drives that is a great way to show off the features and benefits of driving an EV to someone who has never been in one before.
Ithaca receives hundreds and sometimes thousands of visitors every weekend so the area might be busy. Getting there early will help us safely set up before it gets too busy.
Sponsors:
In addition to the nationwide NDEW sponsors we have a few local businesses who are helping us cover advertising and printing costs.
Those sponsors are: Renovus, Three Hills Properties LLC, Emma's Acres LLC, and Maguire Automotive.
Movie!:
Like movies? Join us at a showing of "Who Killed The Electric Car" at Cinemapolis on Wednesday at 7pm! I know what you're thinking, I have already seen that movie a 100 times. Join us and make it 101! Tickets are $10 at the door or $8 with a free coupon (email me if you want one). Ticket sales go exclusively towards rental of the movie theater. Bring a friend!
T-shirts!:
We are having a limited run of "Ithaca is Electric" t-shirts made. Shirts have been ordered and after the pre-orders have been filled we will have around 14 left of various sizes. Price for Sm, Med, Large and XL are $19 each. XXL and larger sizes can be ordered and potentially even made the same day over at T-Shirt Express on the Commons.
I will update this page as more details come together.
Hope you can make it!!
