Event Report

Seventeen electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles lined Broad Street during Thursday’s Farmers Market EV Showcase organized jointly by the City of San Luis Obispo's Sustainability Department and the SLO Climate Coalition. In addition to the two organizers, two other exhibitors, Central Coast Community Energy and SLO County APCD provided information on electric vehicles and the programs available to help purchase and charge them.

The City of SLO hosted the centerpiece attraction, showing off one of their fleet of all-electric F-150 Lightnings and an electric city bus. The F-150 powered a string of lights while the bus attracted young and old to hop on and rest their legs.

Other popular showcase vehicles included a Tesla Cybertruck that played a musical light show and an Rivian R1T equipped with a sleeping tent over the pickup bed. But what really caught the attention of attendees, though, was the windshield flyers showing what used vehicles similar to some of those in the showcase could be purchased for after rebates. With up to $11,000 in rebates, Chevy Bolts, Hyundai Konas, and Kia Niros with only 50,000 miles could be purchased for less than $7,000!

Visitors were encouraged to attend the EV Ride & Drive event on Saturday so they could actually get behind the wheel of some of the electric vehicles on display.

ELECTRIFY YOUR LIFE EV SHOWCASE

Join us at San Luis Obispo's ever-popular and always fun Farmers' Market in downtown SLO, September 26th from 6:00 to 9:00 PM! We've reserved an entire block of Broad Street between Higuera and Monterey, so there will be lots of room for the EV showcase. EV owners are invited to display their cars and share the joys of driving electric with attendees. If you don't own an EV, come see a variety of EVs and talk to EV owners about their drive electric experience. Information booths will have detailed information about all electric cars, how to discover and obtain discounts, financial incentives and tax credits, and ways that you can electrify your life at home as well as on the road.
