Event Report
The show was held in association with the 40th-anniversary celebration of the local Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber, in conjunction with the City and Jarvis Township, arranged for local businesses to have tents, food trucks, and tabling events for the event, as well as a ribbon-cutting for a new solar energy installation at the Township Hall. The EV show was partially held in the shade of a new solar project, this one being a carport at City Hall.
Representatives from the local electric utility were invited to staff a table at the EV show. They were able to answer questions about their programs supporting electric vehicles, including ChargeSmart, which encourages owners to recharge at night when electricity rates are lower.
Some local government leaders attended, including the former mayor/current Jarvis Township Supervisor, a City alderman, and our local Representative to the State Legislature.
Reporters for local newspapers and radio stations were present and
interviewed various participants, including the EV show organizer. The
chamber paid for yard signs to promote the event and helped promote the event in local news outlets, social
media, and online.
As always, the drivers exhibiting their cars were highly excited to share their experiences with others. Public attendance was low, however. The event occurred on an unusually hot day (for September) and was physically separated from the other 40th-anniversary celebration events owing to unavoidable space constraints and construction. These factors may have further constrained attendance.
