Event Report
The city of Richmond California has just wrapped up the 9th Annual NDEW event. The event was co-sponsored with Cool the Earth/ Ride and Drive Clean and Marin Clean Energy. Annika Osborn, from Cool the Earth demonstrated vehicle 2 grid charging technology by using her Volkswagen ID 4 to cook delicious popcorn for the event attendees. There were several special
highlights to note this year. Richmond announced
receiving an additional CARB Clean Mobilities Option Voucher Program award to expand
the Richmond Moves on demand electric shuttle service area. In collaboration with the Richmond Community
Foundation and California Clean Initiatives funds, Lightning Motors displayed the
electric van model that the Rtransit paratransit program will use to replace the
gas fleet vehicles, and Richmond deployed a new Beam for All Solar EV Charging Arc
and Miocar car share vehicle within the Parchester Community.
Several local organizations
were in attendance: the Bay Area Air Quality Management District, the Contra
Costa Transportation Authority, 511 Contra Costa, Richmond – San Rafael Bridge
Commute Program, the Richmond Community Foundation, Rad Power Bikes, SparkPoint
Contra Costa West, Moxion Power, Electric Fish and the Richmond Employment and
Development Volunteers.
Also on hand were half a dozen models of Rad Power electric bikes, and a private owner displayed his electric scooter.
Every year we are
fortunate to have members from the local Electric Automobile Association and private
vehicle owners who share their experience and encourage vehicle ownership. This year, Assistant Fire Chief Chris Bachman
from the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District displayed one of their
Rivian fleet trucks. Richmond Councilmember
Cesar Zepeda was very impressed with the vehicle and will be supporting similar
vehicle acquisitions for the Richmond Fire fleet. Lastly, Bing Gu from California- Sunlight brought
his Tesla and demonstrated portable solar charging.
A special thank you
goes out to all who participated. We
will see you next year!
