Event Report

Our first NDEW event in Mendocino County was a modest success. Owners of the eight EVs on display reported a total of 176,101 oil-free miles driven, many of those on solar power. True believers drove from as near as two blocks away and as far as 75 miles to show off their cars. The redwood trees cooled our parking lot on an otherwise scorching Saturday. People of all ages strolled over, with the newest generation of future plug-in drivers well represented. There was a strong attraction to the Teslas--test drivers emerged dazed and exhilarated from their rides. At the other end of the affordability scale, the intrepid Chevy Spark EV surprised and impressed. BMW, Honda, Toyota and Kia all-electric models rounded out the exhibit. The Fabulous Flashback Car Show staked out downtown a block away; occasionally a lovingly restored vintage gas guzzler rolled by with a throaty roar. Out on the fringe, we reveled in the elegant whoosh of an unplugged EV peeling away. No contest.

Greetings, fellow Electric Vehicle enthusiasts!

It’s official – we are hosting a Ride & Drive educational demonstration on Saturday, September 19, 2015, 10am to 4pm in downtown Ukiah, as part of the fifth annual National Drive Electric Week. As far as we know, this is the first NDEW event in Mendocino County.

You are invited to show off your EV and share your experience with the community, or just come and see them. The more EVs the better—we need you! Please register using the button at the top of this page.

Just down the street will be the Fabulous Flashback Car Show, so we’ll offer a flash-forward glimpse to present and future car lovers. Vendors and crowds will be present in the downtown area.

Our event is located at the City of Ukiah’s EV charging station, so if you come from a distance and need to recharge, we will have it reserved for the day and take turns.

More details will follow as our plans develop. Let me know if you have questions, register your vehicle, and share this announcement with friends.
