Event Report
The 10th annual National Drive Electric Steilacoom festival was the best ever. Perfect weather, a record 43 different model types present, and a record estimated 1,250 people in attendance. About a dozen information booths set up from different vendors. As always, the event is free and the cost to run the event is zero dollars! Special thanks to the Steilacoom Chamber of Commerce for being an official sponsor which thus gives us insurance cover. To the Town of Steilacoom who allows us the closure and the use of the downtown area for the festival and supplies barriers and cones to mark off the area. To the Kiwanis Club of Steilacoom who had more than a dozen volunteers helping with all facets of the event. The Town of Steilacoom is a small historic town with a very nice downtown area. Perfect for a festival. Highlights including the Pierce Transit high capacity bus. Amazon with their delivery van. Two "tricked out" Model 3s. Ranger Tree Service for their 2nd year with their Rivian truck which they use everyday as a work truck. They also brought a heavy trailer with a tractor and a camper set up. Lucid brought two vehicles for display and discussion. We had three solar power vendors.
We will do this again, for the 11th time! Probably in late August of 2024. PS: I started this event in 2014 and will continue to do so for a few more years. The Lord willing! Also, the previous town mayor was very supportive. I was honored to become mayor in 2021 and my advocacy of the electric transition will continue for many more years.
