This was our inaugural event and was very small. Our opening ceremony included a hula performance by a local charter school. We had great support from our county, (the mayor publicly proclaiming NDEW and making sure the county energy specialist was on hand at the event) and local utility, Kauai Island Utility Coop, otherwise known as KIUC. KIUC took over the insurance and advertising so I have no idea how much they budgeted for the ads and radio spot, as well as the insurance. We also had great support from our shopping mall, Kukui Grove. They graciously provided the display tables and chairs, as well as the posting of the banner. Our local community college, Kauai Community College, was represented by their Electric Vehicle Maintenance class professor, complete with a few participants in his program and working models of a Prius engine and hands-on explanations of how EVs work. This was the highlight of the event for me, personally.

This event is part of the 5th annual National Drive Electric Week, an opportunity to promote the many benefits of plug-in vehicles. Our event will consist of displaying electric vehicles already owned by Kauai residents , as well as new vehicles brought in by Kuhio Nissan and Aloha Kia. Rides and test drives will be offered to people interested in this technology.
The Mayor of Kauai has agreed to proclaim September 12th through 20th National Drive Electric Week. The official Proclamation will occur on Wednesday, September 9th at 11:30 am in the County Building rotunda. This is very exciting for us! The Mayor's office has given us permission to invite whomever we wish to this event, which gives us an excellent media opportunity.
Our event is planned for Saturday, September 19, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. It is a ride and drive event aimed at educating the general public. Our local Nissan dealer has agreed to help make this event happen. We have also been supported by our local utility company, Kauai Island Utility Cooperative, as well as Aloha Kia, who plan to unveil their brand new E-Soul.
