Event Report
The 2022 EV Showcase at the Quinnipiac University Annual Car Show was the first of its kind at this event. The EV car show took place on a brisk early spring day.
Prior to the event, 148 people registered on the NDEW website. The overall event was a general car show that attracted an estimated 1500 visitors and 950 vehicles on display.
EV models shown at the EV Showcase were brought by EV owner/drivers as well as car dealers representing a broad range of EVs and PHEVs, including the Chevrolet Bolt; Chevrolet Volt; Tesla Models 3, S (including a Plaid), X and Y; Audi e-tron; BMW i3; BMW i4; Ford Mustang Mach-E; e-Golf; Polestar 2; Hyundai Ioniq 5; Volvo C40; and Toyota Prius Prime. The Showcase also included an EV conversion of a 2005 Mazda RX-8.
At our information tables (under a white tent), we distributed flyers and brochures about the cost-saving and clean-air advantages of driving an EV, including those provided by Plug In America and the Electric Auto Association, as well as up-to-date information about state and federal financial incentives. Also provided were handouts about the new (January 2022) rebates for the purchase and installation of EV charging equipment offered by the Connecticut electric utilities Eversource and United Illuminating. In addition, we created three additional handouts of our own.
We wish to acknowledge financial support from BMW of North Haven, Mercedes Benz of North Haven, Audi of Wallingford, Eversource Energy, and United Illuminating.
We also wish to thank members of the Hamden Energy Use and Climate Change Commission, the Qunnipiac University Car Club, the EV Club of Connecticut, and Tesla Owners-Connecticut.

Event Description
Electrify Your Drive!
An EV Showcase with Owners and Auto Dealers
The Qunnipiac University (QU) Car Club Fourth Annual Spring Car Show will feature a "Drive Electric Event" component displaying the latest models of electric vehicles (EVs), including high-performance EVs. Experienced EV owners and drivers will display their vehicles and will discuss how they use them on their daily commutes and longer-distance drives, as well as how they charge their cars’ batteries.
EV and Plug-In Hybrid EV owners are encouraged to register for this event by clicking on the Participate button above and to bring their vehicles for all or part of the event. We will provide directions for on-site participation, including parking at the car show on the day of the event. The $15.00 fee for "show parking" will be covered (courtesy of Eversource and United Illuminating) for the first 45 EV owners at the Showcase. We encourage attendees (those not displaying their car) to register for this event by clicking on the RSVP button above; you will receive updates about the event.
Attendees will learn about the differences between electric vehicles and conventional gas-powered cars (including why EVs are much less expensive to operate and maintain), the widespread locations and different types of charging stations, the wide range of EV models available now, and the benefits of electric vehicles for the environment and for public health.
Attendees will receive informational handouts and will also learn about special savings programs for Connecticut EV drivers, including state rebates and federal tax credits, for purchasing and leasing electric vehicles. Eversource and UI will be providing information about the new rebate program for purchase and installation of EV charging equipment for homes and businesses.
High-performance sports cars, sedans, SUVs, and even pickups are soon to be or are now widely available in EV format, many with longer (over-250-mile) driving ranges. The "Drive Electric Event" EV Showcase at the QU Spring Car Show will feature some of these latest EV models.
A limited number of spaces for EV owners is available in the EV section, where cars will be grouped with new EV models from dealers and the EV information tent. The $15.00 fee for "show parking" will be covered (courtesy of Eversource and United Illuminating) for the first 45 EV owners at the Showcase. The QU Car Show is free for attendees of the show (those who are not displaying their car).
