Event Report

The "Electrify Your Life" showcase at San Luis Obispo's Downtown Farmers Market was a huge success. Six battery electric vehicle owners talked non-stop with nearly 100 attendees over the three hour event. Two other Plug-in hybrids were also there for people to see. The most popular vehicle was the Ford Mustang Mach-e, only 2 weeks off the showroom floor. We also had three Teslas (Models S, 3 and Y) as well as a Kia Niro and a Hyundai Kona. Several owners shared their stories of the novel ways they use their EVs. The Tesla Model S was fitted with a mattress that the owner slept on during a cross-country road trip. The Kia Niro is used for Doordash food delivery at night and is charged by solar panels in the daylight. The lead organizer, SLO Climate Coalition, welcomed folks and passed out EV information. A second booth was jointly hosted by the Central Coast Clean Cities Coalition and the SLO County Air Pollution Control District, both promoting their programs that support clean fuel vehicles. A third booth, hosted by the Tri-County Energy Network, provided a broader display of ideas and programs aimed at electrifying homes and businesses. A fourth booth held a display of a range of EV charging hardware, from simple "dumb" extension cords to a high-end charger that features bi-directional battery charging, smart controls, and solar panel integration. The entire display of booths and cars was illuminated by a string of LED lights hooked up to power inverter in the Tesla Model Y.
