Event Report

The 8th annual Asheville Drive Electric Event took place on a beautiful fall day in Asheville.  It was located on the campus of AB Tech Community College in the parking lot with the EV chargers.   Over 200 people attended over the course of 3 hours.  There were a wide variety of EVs to look at:  Nissan Leaf (1st generation and Plus); Tesla Model 3, Y, and S; Chevy Volt, Bolt, and Spark EV; Ford Mustang Mach-E and C-Max Energi; Smart for Two; BMW X3; Toyota RAV4 Prime and Prius Prime; Kia Niro PHEV; Jaguar I-Pace; Volkswagen ID.4; Audi Etron; along with a custom made e-scooter and two Genze e-bikes.   Of special note was the Tesla Model 3 that won Pikes Peak, brought to the show courtesy of EV Dave.  A video is presented here:  https://youtu.be/Lzrd6EDYgF0

Photos of the event are here:

Thanks to all the people who came to the show, especially the volunteers and  EV owners who showed their cars to the public.

We also want to thank: Land of Sky Clean Vehicles Coalition, Citizens Climate Lobby, Blue Ridge Energy, Southern Alliance for Clean Energy, and Sugar Hollow Solar for their support.   A special thanks goes to Loving Food Resources for hosting the food drive and for the good work they do.  Of course, we also thank AB Tech Community College for allowing us to host this event on their campus.

This show had a special meaning to everyone, since it was the first major post pandemic in person event we organized.  With the interest and general acceptance of electric vehicles it seems we are entering the age of EVs.

Event Description

In conjunction with AB Tech, the Blue Ridge EV Club will host an in-person Drive Electric show on Friday, October 1st from 11 am to 2 pm.  The event will take place at AB Tech Community College, lot B17 where the chargers are located.

This year, we are also asking those who can to bring some food stuffs for Loving Food Resources, a local food pantry. Many people continue to have need for the basics and this type of food drive-car show has been exceptionally successful during the "Fill the Frunk" Tesla BRP Drive events. See the list below and come with your contributions.

• Talk to owners about their EV experiences.

• New models will include the Tesla Model Y SUV, Volkswagen ID.4, Mustang Mach-e and more.

• Demonstrations of electric bicycles and other personal transportation devices.

• Get answers to all your questions about Electric Cars: costs, range, charging and more!

• See public electric vehicle charging stations and how people charge when at home

• Meet members of the Blue Ridge Electric Vehicle Club

AB Tech main campus is located at 340 Victoria Road, Asheville, NC 28801.  Google and Apple Maps will find Lot B17 by using 400 Victoria Road, Asheville, NC as the address. A Greenlots DC Fast Charger (with CCS and CHAdeMO plugs) and four Level 2 AC charger cords are located in the lot. The details on these chargers with direct smartphone routing can be found on Plugshare.

COVID pandemic precautions:  This campus has restrictions we are following along with other health authority guidance. Face masks must be worn if a 6 foot social distance cannot be maintained. Face masks are required for sitting in vehicles.
