Event Report
Green Wheels Expo 2021 NDEW Report
The Green Wheels Expo 2021, hosted by Sustainable Fairfield with our partners the EV Club of CT, was a resounding success!
The Event was held at a new location, 889 Post Road in Fairfield CT, which is located right in the heart of the Town, and so we were able to attract not only attendees who were hugely focused on the EV Showcase and had a prior interest, but also folks who were out running their Saturday errands and dropped into the Green Wheels Expo out of curiosity, thus learning about EVs from experienced owners!
Kickoff took place at 10 am with the arrival of the Proterra all-electric transportation Bus from Greater Bridgeport Transit! It was a huge hit with the masses and we hope its presence at the event will encourage advocacy amongst our citizens to lobby for more electric buses in all of Connecticut’s fleets!
We also saw the arrivals of a number of our vendors, from Sierra Club of CT volunteers, to Fairfield’s own Forestry Committee and Pollinator Pathway Volunteers, to Student Volunteers from Fairfield Ludlowe High School’s Eco Club and the Sustainable Fairfield Students (our youth component group)! We also had literature on composting and our entire Event was ZERO WASTE thanks to the composting bins lent to us by Action Waste Solutions! Sustainable Member and Transportation Committee Chair, Daphne Dixon, also provided information via her Live Green CT channel about ELECTRIFYING FAIRFIELD!
Also at 10 am, EV club of CT members held a rally at the Westport, CT Train Station and then set off the EV Parade, led by the first ever model 3 on the Westport Police Fleet, and rolled through the Towns of Westport and Fairfield, before arriving at the Green Wheels Expo 2021 location in Fairfield at 11 am greeted by our First Selectwoman Brenda Kupchick, and other legislators!
The following program of events followed:
11:15 am Daphne Dixon, Transportation Sub-Committee Chair, Sustainable Fairfield
Welcome and Thank You for joining us at the 7th Annual Green Wheels Expo, in support of National Drive Electric Week! I am Daphne Dixon, Transportation Sub-Committee Chair of Sustainable Fairfield.
National Drive Electric Week is a nationwide celebration to raise awareness of the many benefits of all-electric and plug-in hybrid cars, trucks, motorcycles, and more and is presented by Plug in America, Electric Auto Association and Sierra Club.
The Green Wheels Expo is hosted by the Sustainable Fairfield Task Force. And we would like to thank our partner, the Electric Vehicle Club of CT for all of their support of the Parade and the GWE.

We were excited to have our Local and State legislators all commit to EVs on our Town’s municipal fleet!
The most popular vehicles, apart from the Proterra itself, were the POLESTAR 1, and the MUSTANG MACH-E! Both were huge highlights! We also had a POLESTAR 2 and a NISSAN LEAF 2022 model on our showcase, along with a host of TESLAS (MODEL X, MODEL S, MODEL Y, MODEL 3), and e-bikes and scooters as well! We also had electric lawn mowers on display – when we mean Green Wheels, we mean ALL kinds of Green Wheels!
All in all it was a wonderful day for EVs, and in turn for our planet! None of it would’ve been possible without the support of the EV Car Club of CT, NDEW and all the sponsors of National Drive Electric Week, and our own Green Wheels Expo Sponsors; EcoEvolution Co, Action Waste Solutions, Mow Green LLC, Live Green, CT Southwestern Clean Cities, and William Leavy Architecture PLLC.
