Event Report

Thanks to all the participants that made Iowa City's first all-electric tailgate event a success, including World of Bikes, MidAmerican Energy, Eastern Iowa Power & Light, Johnson Clean Energy District, Sustainable Stewards, Iowa City Climate Fest, and above all the many local EV drivers who shared their experience and expertise with their vehicles!

The event featured demo rides on electric-assist bikes and electric vehicles made by Tesla, Nissan, Toyota, Audi, Chevrolet -- even an EV riding lawn mower! Add in foot traffic from the nearby farmers market, tailgate games, free chips and pop and giveaways, and a lot of great conversations between current EV owners and those excited or curious about owning an EV as their next vehicle, and it all made for a day full of EV enthusiasm.

Event Description

All attendees and volunteers are required to wear face masks whenever they are within six feet of another person at all National Drive Electric Week 2021 events. Please see this information about how to improve how your mask protects you. For more information, see our in-person event safety requirements.

Join us for Iowa City's first all-electric tailgate event!

Free chips and pop for attendees, tailgating games courtesy of Iowa City Parks and Rec, plus electric vehicles great and small. Chat with local electric vehicle drivers and e-bike riders about which of the many EV benefits they enjoy most.

This event caps off the weeklong Iowa City Climate Fest with a celebration of the growing number of electric vehicles in our community -- including four, brand-new electric buses added this year to our transit fleet!

Find out where to charge an EV at the growing number of electric vehicle charging stations in Iowa City, get information about the newest makes and models of battery electric and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, and learn about incentives for EV drivers from local utilities.
