Event Report

We held the Third Taos EV Expo on September 25 at the Taos Public Library and Town Hall parking lots.  We held a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Mr. Luis Reyes Jr., CEO of Kit Carson Electric Cooperative, County Commissioner Candyce O'Donnell and Town of Taos Councilor Pasqual Maestas as they powered up the new Enel JuicePedestal charging station.  The charging station was purchased  with donated funds and installed just prior to our EV Expo.

We had seven speakers in our two-hour Speaker Program, with these people and topics:

  • Solar and Wind-Based Electric Life – Mike Musialowski
  • Electric Muscle Car vs. ICE Muscle Car – Sylvia Luftig
  • Electric Vehicles You Can Buy Today – David Kingsley
  • How Do You Charge Your Electric Vehicle?  – Chuck Wright
  • The State of Rooftop Solar in Taos – Vishu Magee
  • Electrification of Everything for Zero Carbon – Karlis Viceps
  • The Vista Trail Transmission Line Project -- Jim Jontry

We had several great sponsors, including:

  • Kit Carson Electric Cooperative who provided the electrical service and a tent
  • Taos Ski Valley, Inc. who brought two Volkswagen ID.4 EVs
  • Taos Community Foundation
  • Nusenda Credit Union
  • Capital Ford of Santa Fe
  • Santa Fe Motor Sports
  • PPC Solar, Inc.
  • Sol Luna Solar, Inc.
  • Ameren/Lucky Corridor/Vista Trail Project
  • TaosNet, Inc.
  • Town of Taos
  • Taos County
  • Land of Enchantment Clean Cities Coalition

One special exhibitor brought a 1917 Detroit Electric Opera Coupe.  This fully operational, fully original car can go 35 mph on lead-acid batteries and was a hit at the Taos EV Expo!

We had Nissan Leafs, Ford Mach-E Mustangs, Teslas of all models (S, 3, X, Y), a GEM electric, a Zero e-motorcycle, many electric bicycles, Chevy Volts, Bolts, and others.  One private exhibitor brought a Volkswagen Beetle chassis in the middle of an EV conversion.

Prior to the EV Expo event, we had a big clean-up day at the parking lot of the Taos Public Library – lots of volunteer hours went into sprucing up the parking lot!  Attendees wanted to see an electric pickup truck...it will happen next year!!  And conversions will be big next year, too.
