The Mt Washington Auto Road has long been a proving ground and playground for new and evolving technologies.  We’re continuing that tradition, hosting our “Alt Energy Summit” weekend on September 13 & 14, 2014.

Mt. Washington Auto Road Alt Energy Summit presented by the New Hampshire Electric Cooperative will showcase examples of what technologies are currently available on the open market, including electric, propane, bio-diesel, compressed natural gas, hybrid electric, as well as inviting entrepreneurs who are developing their own versions of alternative power.

Find our complete event information at The Alt Energy Summit website, here

Join us on September 13-14, 2014 for demonstrations and a drive up the Northeast’s highest peak.

  • 1:00PM  Presentation: Redefining Motorsports – A How-To Guide for Creating a Revolution in Speed

Charlie Greenhaus, Andrew Smith and driver Tim O’Neil of the EVSR Race Team talk about how they built a car that changes everything we think we know about motorsports.  Within 6 months, the EVSR team built a race car from the ground up that has gone on to run in over 20 races, has performed reliably and competitively, and no less than made history on the Mt Washington Auto Road as the first electric car to race in the legendary “Climb to the Clouds” hillclimb.  Largely ignored as simply a curiosity by competitors, the team got the attention and respect it deserved after only the first practice run.  Piloted by legendary driver Tim O’Neil, it finished with a time that is respectable for any car at any time – regardless of the type of vehicle and drivetrain – and will go down in the record books. as the first, and one of the fastest.

Join Charlie, Andrew and Tim and hear about the goals, challenges and triumphs of the team’s remarkable effort.  From the vision of the first idea, through the technical challenges and decisions, to the race, build and tuning strategies, we’ll hear it from the men who lived the dream.

  • 2:30 Presentation: Real-life Electric Vehicle Ownership

Join Dave Olivera of the New England Electric Auto Association, Ben Rich, longtime EV owner and cross-country electric motorcycle rider, Tim Letourneau of Twin State Ford and Mike Mercer of Banks Chevrolet to get the real story on the ins and outs of EV ownership – the driving experience, getting the most from incentives, dealing with charging and range – in a no-nonsense panel discussion. There will be plenty of other EV owners there to join in, too!

  • 4:00 Workshop: Community-Sponsored Charging Stations

Want to get charging stations installed in your community? Ask our experts how – John Gilbrook, of Chargepoint, the world’s largest and most open EV charging network, Gary Lemay, of New Hampshire Energy CO-OP, our Title Sponsor, and Carl Vogel, National Board member of the Electric Auto Association, moderated by Dolores Rebolledo of the NH Clean Cities Coalition. They’ve made it happen, and can help you make it happen for your community.

  • 6:00 EV TV: KickGas and Charged

Join us on Saturday evening for under-the-stars screenings of two soon-to-be-classic EV films: KickGas, which is an “adventu-mentary” story of an epic 4,000-mile journey across America by eight strangers from different countries piloting an odd assortment of (mostly slow) electric vehicles in an effort to set a Guinness World Record. Charged is a 90-minute documentary from the Mark Neale (director of the MotoGP flick “Faster”) documenting the advent of the first electric motorcycle race—the TTXGP—at the venerated Isle of Man TT.

Sunday, Sept 14

  • 10:00 Exhibits
  • 10:00 Workshop: DIY Off-Grid Solar EV Charging

This is a unique, hands-on workshop that will not only show you the basics of any solar power system, but show you how to design and build your own off-grid solar EV charging station. Ted Dillard, electric motorcycle builder and Bevan Walker, an independent PV Solar installer will be joined by Jocelyn Angel and Mike Marchilli of the ALT E store to do a hands-on DIY demonstration. This is your chance to learn the basics of solar, and build your way to 100% carbon-free transportation.

Look for the folks from the New England Electric Auto Association who will be spreading the word on other New England National Drive Electric Week Events events!

"The Mt. Washington Auto Road has seen the evolution of transportation play out on its eight mile path to the summit. Considering that the first motor vehicle to ever go up was a steam powered Stanley Locomobile in 1899, it seems very appropriate that we showcase how alternative energy technologies have evolved since then.”

- Howie Wemyss, General Manager of the Mt. Washington Auto Road and Great Glen Trails Outdoor Center.
