Event Report

Our new site, on the parking lot of the Midtown Fresh Market, turned out to be a great choice.  There were several places where food and drink could be purchased, as well as restroom facilities.  The location, not far from downtown Kalamazoo on a major artery, had great visibility and a lot of shopping traffic, and many curious people stopped by even though they might not have been aware of our event ahead of time.  The cooperation of the host site owners/managers made everything easy.

West Michigan EV owners really responded to the call, and people had a large and diverse group of vehicles to see and learn about, as well as some examples of home charging hardware.  Owners came from as far as Muskegon and Holland, MI and Ft. Wayne, Indiana to share their experiences.  Several people were able to take cars out for test rides around the neighborhood.

Art Toy, of 4 Elements Energy brought a standard 48V golf cart type utility vehicle that he has souped up with a solar roof, inverter, dump bed, and an extra 12V battery, very practical.  That and the 1981 Jet Electra were unusual favorites.

Two days after the event, one of the attendees purchased a brand-new Prius Prime PHEV, because of what she learned during NDEW!

Event Description

All are invited to our fifth annual EV Ride & Drive, Show and Tell in the wonderful city of Kalamazoo!  We have a new location just south of downtown, with easy access and amenities nearby (including a hardware store!).  Kalamazoo Electric Vehicle Association (KEVA) thanks the Midtown Fresh Market, a new, locally-owned grocer with lots of delicious food, including ready-to-eat items for takeout or enjoying in their cafe, see https://www.midtownfresh.com/.  Also grateful to the SW Michigan group of the Sierra Club for their continuing support.

We need EV owners with vehicles of all kinds willing to spend an hour or two showing off their rides, and please spread the word to anyone in the area who has yet to get their electric vehicle.  EVs will park in the controlled area, southeast corner of the parking lot, general public can park anywhere in the rest of the lot.  Hope to see you in September!
