Event Report
The national electric drive week complemented extremely well with my energy fair. The cars with their open hoods was an excellent draw for the cars and for my energy fair. We had a good cross section of cars including Audi (dealer), Nissan Leaf (dealer), Bolts, and Teslas. If we do it next year, I would like to coordinate my fair along with the National Electric Drive Week. The owners of the vehicles were very friendly and let the public sit in the car. The owner of the Tesla impressed me when he turned on the music from the car and the doors were moving to the music. I would like to thank the owners for attending the event and I am looking forward to doing the exact same thing next year. In addition to the cars I plan on getting an EV school bus and a commercial bus if possible.

Event Description

Citizens Climate Lobby (CCL)* of Southbury (www.citizens climate lobby.org) and Sustainable Southbury have come together to help everyone understand actions they can take to reduce energy use and raise awareness of climate change impacts.
Cutting back energy use can significantly reduce your energy bill, save precious natural resources and reduce pollution that is harmful to humans, our environment, and is a driver of climate change. Most energy is produced by burning fossil fuels which releases carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides, which absorb the sun’s warmth and keeps heat in our atmosphere. Today, too much heat is becoming trapped in the atmosphere, warming the earth rapidly, causing rising temperatures, heat waves, drought, higher sea levels, abnormal weather patterns, increased intensity of natural disasters, smog, acid rain, and species extinction.
Planned Energy Fair Program:
At the entrance to the fair there will be two exhibit electric vehicles (stationary).
Display along the sidewalk of Region 15 student created climate change posters
20+ vendors displaying their energy related products and services such as: solar, home energy products, architects, builders, utility, financing (CT Green Bank), environmental supportive organizations (i.e. PACE, Energy for All, etc).
There will be no charge for a vendor table.
Kids area - face painting and other activities to be determined
Visitors will be sourced from the regional area via pre-event promotion and foot traffic from the shopping area.
No alcohol or food will be served.
*Citizens Climate Lobby has a bill in congress (HR763) called the Energy Innovation and Carbon Fee Dividend Bill and this revenue neutral bill will levy a fee on carbon products. In return American households will receive a dividend check that may exceed the increased energy costs for about 70% of the households. This bill will reduce carbon emissions by 40% in the next 12 years.
