Event Report

It was a beautiful September day at Rogers Environmental Education Center for the first Electric Car Show. We had a total of 18 plug in vehicles on property for the show and at least 40 test rides were given. We sold veggie burgers, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, lemonade and chips. Benedict Subaru from Norwich was on site with a Crosstrek Hybrid model to show. Sherburne Mayor, Bill Acee spoke about the Sherburne Municipal Electric that has been in place since 1905, and the Chevy Volt they use for the town. He also mentioned that in the meeting notes from 1905 electricity was mentioned as a passing fad, but look at us now.  Chris Carrick of Central New York Regional Planning Board spoke on the importance of talking to your friends, neighbors, co-workers about electric vehicles and getting the word out and how important it is to our environment to reduce our use of fossil fuel. This is key to what Rogers Center is all about, environmental education. Over 125 people were at the show either with an electric car or asking about them. We are very happy with the show and the information passed out to people looking to go electric. We also had energy companies on hand to provide information about rebates and home programs. We are looking to hold the next EV show on September 20th from 11-3, so mark your calendars.

Also expect to shop the renew/recycle/reuse flea market and crafts, speak with companies about alternative energy options, such as solar. So much more to come, as details are worked out for an electric car test drive and more informational booths are booked.

Rogers Center is open dawn to dusk everyday with restroom facilities and 6 miles of hiking trails. Also on site are trout ponds where you can feed fish and see lots of wildlife such as turtles, geese, variety of birds and frogs. Visit our website at friendsofrogers.org.
