Event Report

This was the first of three events in San Luis Obispo. It was primarily and inside, informational event, but with several EV and e-bike vendors displaying their wares in the outside courtyard during registration/ food service. The conference agenda was:

5:00 to 5:45 - Registration, social mixer and vendor displays inside and in the courtyard.
5:50 to 6:00 - Eric Veium and Chris Read will give welcome and introductory remarks, including brief description of SLO Climate Coalition and City of SLO climate goals and EV related activities.
6:00 to 6:20- PG&E Meteorologist John Lindsey - Keynote speaker presenting the evidence that transformed him from climate change skeptic to climate action champion and EV driver.
6:20 to 6:30 - Interactive exercise moderated by Eric Veium
6:30 to 6:45 - Barry Rands presenting "Myth-Busting Benefits of Electrifying Your Commute"
6:45 to 6:55 - Melissa Guise of Central Coast Clean Cities Coalition describing the many programs and incentives intended to make it easier for folks to drive electric
6:55 to 7:00 - Recognition of EV Champions in San Luis Obispo
7:00 to 7:30 - Panel Discussion - Electric car and bike owners share their experiences (Barry Rands Moderator)
7:30 to 7:45 - Audience Q&A directed to presenters and panelists
7:45 to 8:00: Closing remarks and invitation to other events (Eric Veium and Justin Bradshaw)

We had an attendance of 75 or so participants, over half of which did not drive or ride an EV (car or bike)

About 75 people attended the first of three NDEW events in San Luis Obsipo at the Mindbody headquarters. Mindbody includes "Environmental Consciousness" as one of its core values and promotes low carbon transportation by offering employees free charging at one of their 24 charging stations on site. They also offer free e-bike rentals for in-town commuters as part of their wellness program.

On the agenda:

  • PG&E Meteorologist John Lindsey on his transformation from climate skeptic to climate activist and electric vehicle owner
  • SLO Climate Coalition EV Specialist Barry Rands on the myth-busting multiple benefits of driving electric
  • Melissa Guise of Central Coast Clean Cities Coalition on the many programs and incentives that are making it easier to own and operate an EV
  • A panel discussion of local area residents who have electrified their commutes
  • Vendors of electric cars, bikes and related products and services
  • Recognition of businesses and organizations that have promoted driving electric in our community
