Event Report

Our third annual Electric Vehicle Expo was probably the best-attended Drive Electric Week event in New England, with 42 electric vehicles and 400 participants. Vehicles present included Tesla Model 3, S and X; Chevy Bolt and Volt; Ford Fusion Energi; Honda Clarity; Nissan Leaf; Porsche Cayenne; Toyota Prius Prime and Zero Motorcycle. In addition, we had Pedego electric bicycles, an eGo self-propelled electric lawnmower, a 1923 Red Bug antique electric go-cart, and a 1976 Jeep CJ5 converted to run on golf-cart batteries.
In the test-drive department, Tesla and Chevy reigned supreme, with two red Tesla Model 3's giving the most rides. Honda, Toyota, Zero and Pedego were represented by dealers, but the vast majority of the EVs present were brought by their enthusiastic owners who stood by their vehicles giving a 'show and tell' to Expo visitors.
Highlights of the Expo included our speakers' program with five info-packed presentations by EV dealers and solar installers; our raffle with a grand prize of a Tesla Model S for Kids plus 10 more prizes donated by local merchants; and free food and beverages including plenty of home-baked goodies. Our State Senator, Ruth Ward, attended the presentations and expressed her support for renewable energy.
Each Expo volunteer was given a bright green T-shirt, emblazoned with our logo and website, to wear at the event. We sold off surplus shirts to Expo visitors. Hopefully these shirts will be worn again, giving our event some year-round visibility.
Many of the visitors who filled out our survey indicated that they are considering purchasing or leasing an EV. The future is promising indeed! We look forward to hosting another NDEW event in 2019.
