On June 22 - 24, you are invited to join us on Salt Spring Island for a fun and entertaining weekend envisioning and experiencing our renewable electric and energy efficient future.

The weekend begins on Friday with ferries arriving from all directions loaded with electric automobiles and bikes of all sorts.  On the event site there will be a panel session entitled "The Innovators".  John Stonier, sustainable economy entrepreneur and inventor of the Veemo®, is one of the panelists. As will Julian Sale, owner of the first electric-only automotive dealer in Canada and Kent Rathwell, who created a charging network across Canada. On Saturday and Sunday, a 10 acre heritage location has been booked for camping, education sessions, exhibits and fun for both adults and kids. We will be featuring e-car and e-bike test-drives featuring some of the latest and most innovative vehicles entering the market, industrial drone demonstrations, EV conversions, and Pico Solar for the kids. Saturday evening will be devoted to entertainment.

Why mountainous and rural Salt Spring Island? SSI has engaged with the new energy economy aggressively. We have over 150 electric vehicles for a population of just over 10,000 (63% increase in ownership in the past year), the highest density in Canada and have a network of free level 2 chargers across the island. We use databases to calculate our fleet effects (reduction of fuel needs of +165,000 litres of fuel per year). We have a large solar array on our high school which sponsors student scholarships. Our rural Island was the first to achieve Green Tourism certification in Canada, is rated one of the 52 places to visit by the New York Times and features 3 wineries, 2 cideries, a brewery and distillery.  We are famous for our organic produce, products and cheeses.  Activities include golf (and disk golf), sailing, racket sports, swimming, kayaking, hiking and biking. And then there is the Saturday Market , one of the finest in BC for interesting local treats, produce and unique crafts.  Our event coincides with the Tour Des Iles inter-island transportation event and the Campbell Bay Music festival on Mayne Island.

Please consider attending and help send a message to the world that EV's are here, and here to stay.
