Event Report

ELEX CARS/RECAP: "In Exeter this past Sunday at the Electric Vehicle Test-Drive Event, visiting Governor of Washington State, Jay Inslee, who has a strong stance on clean energy, takes a ride around the bandstand in one of the very first electric cars: Bart Bailey’s 1911 Phaeton. Over 25 local electric vehicle (EV) owners showcased their cars at the bandstand and nearby, including seven Teslas (models S,3,X). Folks from the greater Exeter area asked them questions about EV ownership and charging.

A Telsa owner from East Kingston commented that she and her husband travel to dine, shop, and be entertained in towns that have downtown EV Charging Stations. She would like to come to Exeter often, but chooses Amesbury because of its support for EV drivers.

Local dealerships provided test drives for many attendees in a Bolt provided by Amesbury Chevrolet, an i-3 provided by BMW of Stratham and a Clarity from Stratham Honda Barn. If you missed the event, you can go visit the dealerships directly for your own test drive. This event was co-hosted by Exeter’s Energy Committee and Exeter NH Transition Town in an effort to reduce tailpipe emissions in Exeter."

Event Description

Join us at the Exeter Town Hall for a free test drive event!

TEST DRIVES: These local dealerships in Exeter will be bringing their electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) to the town hall parking lot.
  • McFarland Ford
  • Stratham Honda Barn
  • BMW of Stratham
  • Amesbury Chevrolet
  • In addition there will be info tables about EVs and charging stations, so you can ask all your questions in one fun and informative place!

LOCAL OWNERS SHOWCASE: If you currently own an EV or PHEV,  we encourage you to park near the bandstand or town hall and pop your top (all should face the town hall), to let people look inside your engine and car while they ask you questions. (We do not encourage private test drives at this event.)  Please rsvp by using the Contact button on this page. We have only 15 parking spaces at the bandstand and town hall, for the first who arrive on site. Others may park where you can find a spot close by. Thanks

INFO TABLES: Literature about vehicle chargers, and the vehicles themselves will be available inside the bandstand. A friendly person will be on hand to answer questions. This is a very educational event!

PARADE: At 3:10pm we will depart together and drive thru town for 15 minutes. (Through the center and up Portsmouth Ave too)  We will have some flags and a colorful sign to display on your car with your model name and eMPG. Feel free to do more decorating yourself.

FUN: Looks like we will be having two celebrity electric vehicles attend our event. Look for the fancy new 2019 BMWs  side-by-side with a 1918 Phaeton!  Yes - two electric vehicles 100 years apart!! Nice photo opp :)  Plus we will provide a few free snacks/ water while you are wandering around this downtown spectacle and getting educated on EVs and electric vehicle chargers (EVCs).

Possible BONUS: Watch for Exeter's very first public EV Charging Station downtown...where will it be?? The Exeter Energy Committee is hard at work on this right now. Stay tuned...
