Event Report

The National Drive Electric Week event at Somerville was part of a town-wide Street fair and Arts show. It was primarily organized by NJ Electric Vehicle Association and Somerville Environmental Commission. RideWise helped us with the Press release. In total, we had 17 vehicles and 14 different models from tiny Smart ED to bulky Rivian R1S. We even had 2 Fisker Oceans. We powered the music band with Hyundai Ioniq 5, preventing gas generators from polluting the area with noxious gases and unwelcome noise. Local utility company Public Service Electric & Gas (PSE&G) had an information table with EV charging incentives and an entire truck with Energy Efficiency Escape Room and other activities.

A few officials visited the display including Paul Drake, Somerset County Commissioner, and Somerville Council members Gina Stravic and Glen Denys.

EV volunteers received NJEVA T-shirts, car magnets, window clings, and small stickers paid through NJEVA sponsors Genesco Sport Enterprises, Princeton Ciocca Chevrolet, and Signature Detailing. Reporter from TAPinto stopped by and interviewed a few EV owners, releasing nice positive article about the mission of NDEW and NJEVA. The article is available here:

Event Description

Rev up your engines for Somerville’s Electric Vehicle (EV) Show, part of the bustling Street Fair and Craft Show on Sunday, October 6th, 2024! At the event, you will have the opportunity to experience real people’s EVs close-up, chat with the owners to ask your EV questions, and learn from experts about how driving electric can save you money, reduce your carbon footprint, and contribute to a cleaner planet. Once you're done gushing over the latest EVs, enjoy a day filled with art, vendors, rides, and live music along Main Street for the rest of the Street Fair and Craft Show. Bring the whole family for a day full of fun, and join us in celebrating the 14th annual National Drive Electric Week and see why the future of driving is electric!

Since the event is very long, we are asking volunteers to stay for at least 3 hours, whether you prefer morning or afternoon (2 PM) shift. However, if you want to come for the morning shift, please arrive by 10:30 AM otherwise our allocated area may be taken by others. The southern side of the street is shaded by trees and it makes for a very pleasant experience.

New this year: Everyone who brings their EV will receive a free NJEVA cotton T-shirt with NJEVA logo at the front and "Ask about my EV" in the back. We have also magnets, window clings and small stickers. Just make sure you bring water in your reusable bottle to stay hydrated.
