Event Report

The Durham event featured 20 electric vehicles including 2 from PortCity Nissan, 2 from BMW of Stratham, 6 Tesla's including a solar charged Roadster, 2 BMW i3s, 5 Nissan Leaf's, 2 Volts, and one Ford C-Max Energi. At 1PM, state representatives, the state Department of Environmental Services, and a crowd of about 100 people gathered for some short speeches and a ribbon cutting on our new dual charging station. There was free food, drink, give aways from Nissan and T-Shirts from the vendors, and even an electric bike vendor giving test drives. Additional planning and climate organizations were also invited including some solar companies who emphasized charging through solar arrays. Guests included most of our Town Council, State Representatives, our Town Administrator, and officials from state agencies. Crowds were good all day from 12-4 and we say at least 24 test drives go out from the Nissan and BMW dealers. We got valuable feedback on our charger's signage and pricing.

The Energy Committee of the Town of Durham, NH invites you to our first annual National Drive Electric Week event and official ribbon cutting ceremony for our two new dedicated Level 2 EV charging parking spots in the Pettee Brook Municipal Lot, Pettee Brook Lane, Durham, NH 03824.

We invite Electric Vehicle owners to register for the event and bring their vehicles to demonstrate to attendees, answer questions, and optionally offer test drives and rides.   We will demonstrate the use of the new charging stations, have sign up materials and instructions for the ChargePoint network used by the new stations, and answer questions about charges, parking regulations, and usage. Light refreshments will be served.

Port City Nissan and BWM of Stratham will be offering free test drives of the Nissan LEAF® and the BMW i3 vehicles respectively.  If you ever want to feel the power, handling, and emissions free fun of driving an all-electric car, now is your chance!  Owners of existing electric vehicles will also be available to discuss their experience owning and operating this new type of vehicle.

We are grateful for the financial support of the NH Department of Environmental Services, the University of New Hampshire, and the Town of Durham for the installation of the charging station, and want to extend a special welcome to UNH students, faculty, and staff to attend the event.

If you have any questions or suggestions for this event, please contact Charlie Forcey using the contact button on this page.  We look forward to seeing you all there.
