Event Report

The Somerville NDEW was a great success.
The event was part of town-wide street fair and arts/craft show. It was lengthy 6 hours and many EV advocates did stay for the entire duration or at least 4 hours. We had 19 vehicles and only 3 models were represented in duplicate so, the diversity of brands and models was great. We had vehicles from the most affordable Chevy Bolt EV to the most premium Tesla Model X Plaid so visitors could find anything they were looking for. Perhaps the most popular was 2023 Jeep Wrangler PHEV brought by a first time participant. The weather was sunny but not too hot. We were located in area partly shaded by buildings and trees, which increased foot traffic and volunteer retention.
Our table with information flyers and Nissan giveaway was joined by RideWise (Transportation Management Agency operating in the county) and NJ Clean Energy Program, who provided information on State EV incentives. Next to us was a tent with local utility company PSE&G that provided information on utility EV charger incentives. Our EV show was also complemented by Somerville Environmental Commission display so, we were all EV and environment focused.
Among the EVs were two County vehicles: all new Ford Transit electric (one of 3), which serves as Paratransit vehicle and 2019 Chevy Bolt EV, which is from the fleet of 5 for the Somerset County operations.
We have been honored by visit of not one, not two but FOUR public officials. All of them are Somerset County Commissioners - Melonie Marano, Paul Drake, Douglas Singleterry and Sara Sooy.

Overall, this event increased public awareness of EVs in Somerville and the Somerset County (NJ) and strengthened the position of New Jersey Electric Vehicle Association as a leader in organizing local EV awareness shows.

Event Description

The event is organized by New Jersey EVA, RideWise and hosted by Somerville Environmental Commission. Somerset County is bringing Ford Transit electric and 2019 Chevy Bolt EV (high mileage). NJ Clean Energy Program will join our table to provide information on NJ EV incentives.

Come and show your electric vehicle:
  • share your experience driving electric,
  • how you decided to get one,
  • where did you buy it,
  • where do you charge
  • any road trip experience and
  • share fun stories.
  • Enjoy delicious bites from the many vendors of the event.
The event is very long so don't feel obligated to come for the entirety of it. Please come at least for any consecutive 3 hours.

You will meet conscious people who are curious about driving electric but are still hesitant to pull the trigger as they are confused with the mix of contradicting information from mainstream media. Let's help them convert to electric!
