Event Report

Thank you so much to everyone who helped make our National Drive Electric Week – Omaha Event a successful event Saturday, Sept. 23!

Although turnout was disappointing, about 55 people, we were competing against a lot of other activities that afternoon, especially Husker Football.

The weather was wet for the first couple of hours, but we were fortunate that the severe weather with golf ball-sized hail went north of Omaha!

Despite the wet weather, we still had 16 electric vehicles and three excellent presentations.

Special thanks to Tim Fickenscher for all his help managing the facilities and technology at First United Methodist Church of Omaha. FUMC is a wonderful venue!

Event Description

We’re back in person! See, touch and sit in the driver’s seat in our variety of electric vehicles on display. Not just automobiles, but electric-assist bicycles, too!

Come attend the Nebraska Sierra Club and Eastern Nebraska Electric Vehicle Association's 4th Annual Omaha Area NDEW Show. The Eco Team at First United Methodist Church is hosting our 2023 event at its spacious facility at 7020 Cass St. in Omaha. Green Bellevue is also a sponsor.

The vehicle display will be in the parking lot on the east side of the church, and visitor parking is on the north side. Presentations and tabling will be in The Commons room adjacent to the EV display area. Events start at Noon and end about 4 PM.

Come meet the many enthusiastic EV owners who will be displaying their vehicles. Restrooms will be available inside.

Presentations in The Commons begin at 1:30 PM. Here is a list of speakers:

  • What’s Keeping You From Going Electric? – Bill Moore, Editor of EV World for over 25 years
  • EVs and Our Future – Keven Chavez, Product Manager, Omaha Public Power District
  • The Latest News About Public EV Charging - Brenda Moskovits, President, Eastern Nebraska EV Assn.
  • Panel Discussion - Our EV experts will answer questions from the audience

The event is part of the 13th annual National Drive Electric Week (NDEW).

There are now more than three million EVs on the road in the United States, and a recent survey from Cox Automotive found consumers considering purchasing an EV for their next vehicle is at an all-time high. The increased interest in EVs makes NDEW events important to educating the public about the incredible benefits of owning an EV, from cost-savings on maintenance and fuel to improved air quality, convenience, and performance.

In addition to new EVs, several older EVs and their owners will be on hand to explain the merits of these vehicles. Federal tax credits are now available for used EVs purchased from licensed dealers making an affordable option for drivers who can’t afford new electric vehicles.

DIRECTIONS: From 72nd & Dodge (Crossroads), drive north on 72nd St. two blocks to Cass St. Then turn right (east) on Cass and proceed up the hill to the church entrance on the left (north). Proceed north past the church and park in the lot on the north side of the building. Follow the signs to the display. BY TRANSIT: It’s only a one-block walk from the Route 8 and 18 stops at 72nd & Cass. Just walk one block east on Cass to the Church. And it’s only a ¼-mile walk from the ORBT stops at 72nd & Dodge.
