Event Report

The Vermont Chapter of the Sierra Club collaborated with our partners at Drive Electric Vermont and Sun Common to promote all of the Drive Electric Week events. In part, the Chapter took the lead in coordinating the volunteer car owners at the Burlington Electric Department Net Zero Energy Festival.

Given the existing event centered on energy conservation, we figured it would be easier to join an existing event instead of creating our own. As they arranged for food trucks, music, and displays of municipal EV fleets, including an electric Bucket truck we had to only provide minimal resources. The one thing I am glad to see is that we know are not exclusively dominated by Tesla's and have numerous car types to display

On top of our volunteers, they also had cars from three different car dealers, a bike shop with e-bikes, and electric lawn equipment.

It was a beautiful day and as the Vermont summer was a washout, I feel that we had limited attendance as in past years for people were more excited to enjoy in other recreational activities. We purposely tried to promote all of the other events in our messaging and not dedicate our resources to this one big event so we are hoping that many of our followers attended one of the other Vermont-based events. Our goal is to get people connected to EVs not necessarily attend our event.

Again, we appreciate being a part of this national effort to electrify. Vermont is on its way, but we still need to answer the concerns of EV skeptics.

Event Description

The Sierra Club Vermont is teaming up with the Burlington Electric Dept (BED) to run a "ride and drive" event as part of the second annual Net Zero Energy Festival. BED is hosting this family-friendly event to help reduce fossil fuel usage and save Burlingtonians money.

As part of National Drive Electric Week, the Vermont Sierra Club is coordinating the EV Ride and Drive event at the festival. Vehicle electrification is an important part of Burlington’s plan to drive down emissions on the road to achieving net zero. The Ride and Drive event will include dozens of EVs shown by their owners. There will also be e-bike demos (and possibly an electric motorcycle!), electric lawn equipment, heat pump and solar panel experts, kids' activities, music, and food trucks.

All are welcome! If you have an EV please register to show it <<>> We’ve seen time and again that interacting with EV owners is an extremely powerful way to change people’s minds about going electric.

Join us in the fun on Saturday, September 23! (Rain date Sept 24)
