Event Report

A grand ol' time was had by all.  No rain!  It might have been a bit chilly to wear our new CVEVA T-shirts on their own, but the sun came out for a good part of the day.

Our estimates for attendance were around 400, not a bad turnout for a grey day with forecast rain.  We are appreciative that the Comox Record ran our press release in their edition just before the weekend.  Local papers are the lifeblood of the community!

We had a wide range of speakers on all EV (including e-bike) topics.  Thanks to Roger Harper, Mike Keohane, John Fruhwirth, Eric Alexandre, Rob MacInnis, Dale Erhart, and Randy Chatterjee for sharing what they know.

Volunteers and a few others shared an incredible food and drink bounty brought by Megan Ardyche.  That kept us all warm.

Special kudos to Ted Robb for being the very first volunteer on site, to Linda Cheu for her ever-present enthusiasm and smile, to Pat Carl for keeping us all on topic during our 6-month preparations for this event and for applying to Comox for the space and securing "the keys to the kingdom", and to the Town of Comox for sharing their kingdom.

The real draw was to Amped Rides, Black's Cycle, and Brian McLean Chevrolet for offering test rides and drives in this revolution in transportation.  Thanks also to Michael Stanyer of Emotive for managing the test drives.

Finally, for those who shined up their cars and showed them off, this display was really what shows off the future of a greener planet.

Event Description

It’s National Drive Electric Week with hundreds of events across North America promoting electric vehicles. We will again hold our signature “Move2Electric” Show ‘n Shine on Sunday, September 24 at the Comox Marina.

Come and sign up on site to drive all-electric SUVs, cross-overs, pickup trucks, and sedans from Ford, GM, Kia, Hyundai, Nissan, VW, and perhaps new entrants to the electric vehicle (EV) market.  Take any of a dozen electric bicycles up the steep hill toward Comox Avenue, and feel the effortless pedalling.

Under cover at the Sail Pavilion listen in to speakers explaining how reliable and low maintenance EVs are, how to charge, how EV batteries are made and recycled, how much it costs to “fill up” an EV ($7-$10!), how solar energy can reduce this cost to zero, how easy and comfortable both long-distance rides and transcontinental road trips are, and how electric transportation can help save our planet.

There will be several food carts on location, including Rove Kitchen, Surfside Fish'n Chips, and/or Comexi Cantina. Also enjoy the water park immediately adjacent with your entire family if it's still hot and sunny.

The Comox Valley Electric Vehicle Association (CVEVA) has been promoting the economic and ecological benefits of electrified transportation since 2018.  Through monthly member meetings, parades, rallies, and large car and e-bike shows with opportunities to test drive EVs of all kinds, CVEVA members hope to accelerate the adoption of lower-carbon transportation of all kinds.  For more information, go to https://www.facebook.com/CVEVABC/

This event is also con-sponsored by Emotive.   Emotive is funded by the Province of British Columbia and offers support to communities and local governments in BC to assist with electric vehicle (EV) outreach.  For more information, go to https://www.emotivebc.ca/ .
