Polk County’s fourth National Drive Electric Week EV-outreach event, ” Lakeland Drive Electric Day,” was a huge success!
This free, family-friendly outdoor event was held on Sat., Sept. 23, 2023 in downtown Lakeland’s beautiful Munn Park, adjacent to the Lakeland Farmers Market. The event featured local EV owners showcasing their vehicles, answering visitor’s questions, & sharing their EV-enthusiasm. The Lakeland Farmers Market's fresh produce, delicious food, and crafts booths added to the festivities.
Nineteen electric vehicles (EVs) comprising 14 models were on display, including: Ford F150 Lightning & F150 Lightning Lariat pickups, Rivian R1T pickup, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, Genesis GV80, Nissan LEAF, Tesla 3, Tesla Y, Ford Mustang Mach-e, BMW-i4, BMW-i3, Chevy Bolt & Chevy Bolt EUV. EV exhibitors included individual owners, Lakeland Electric Utility, and the Lakeland Auto Mall. A new feature at this year’s event: Lakeland Auto Mall offered ride & drives to interested attendees.
Visitors enjoyed learning about EV economic & health benefits at our NDEW welcome canopies, which featured educational displays, prize drawings, an “EV-IQ” quiz, and children’s EV craft activities. Drawing prizes included a programmable thermostat donated by Lakeland Electric, native plants from The Nectary, and a Bon Appetit gift basket.
Lakeland Drive Electric Day was organized with the help of volunteers from the Polk Clean Energy Alliance, the League of Women Voters of Polk County and the Ancient Islands Sierra Club’s Clean Energy Committee. Local event sponsor was Lakeland Electric Utility.
The organizers look forward to hosting our third annual “Drive Electric Earth Day Lakeland” event on Sat. April 20, 2024.

Lakeland Electric Utility proudly displayed one of their F150 Lightning fleet vehicles, and Lakeland Auto Mall offered ride & drives. |
