Event Report

Once again the EV Advocates of Ventura County organized the local NDEW EV showcase for vehicles owners and the interested public. This year our new venue was the Ventura Harbor, a great location next to the beach and the Harbor Village with many shopping and dining options. In addition to the normally bustling village, the surf contest across the street brought many visitors who took advantage of the EV educational opportunities.

The showcase was filled with 69 Electric Vehicles on the lawn and several more in the adjacent parking lot. The 31 models of vehicles displayed ranged in size from an 84 passenger E-Bus from the Ocean View School District to the oldest, a 1968 Subaru Sambar MicroVan conversion. Combined EV mileage on the displayed vehicles was just under 3 million miles which represents a major commitment of participants to get off gas.

In addition to the over 250 participants who registered for the event, an undeterminable number of visitors came through the event in a constant flow. Interest was high in the vehicle options as conversation with the vehicle owners provider real world experience as an EV owner.  Another important exchange of information occurred among the EV owners as they discussed charging tips and locations, trips undertaken and various adventures.

Booths from local organizations to include the Sierra Club, Clean Power Alliance, Ventura County Air Pollution Control District / C5 Clean Cities, EV Advocated of Ventura County / VC Office of Education, Community Environmental Council, City of Ventura Sustainability Division and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 952 all provided relevant information.

Event Description

Come to another exciting event at the Ventura Harbor Village. Over on the main lawn you will find an amazing showcase of electric vehicles. There will be Cars, Vans, SUV’s, Trucks and other electric equipment, even some vintage EV conversions and an electric boat.  These cars are displayed by their owners who have years of EV ownership and have driven many petroleum free miles. They all are enthusiastic and willing to discuss their experience and answer your questions about owning and living with an EV.

If you own an EV, register with the RSVP button and bring your vehicle to the showcase, meet and mingle with members of our local EV community. Enjoy the opportunity to visit the Ventura Harbor Village for some excellent eats and shopping, you might even stroll down to the Visitor Center of Channel Islands National Park and learn about the amazing resource just off our coast. (sorry, no chargers out there).

This will be the 10th National Drive Electric Week Showcase in Ventura County. Last year’s event had 52 vehicles representing 24 models. There even was an electric school bus, port yard tractor (UTR), delivery vehicles and a boat. This year we anticipate a greater diversity of vehicles, more owners, and experiences to share.

To further your knowledge about electric vehicles, charging options, electrical service and rebates, there will be booths from community organizations and service providers to answer your questions.

This event is sponsored by the Santa Barbara - Ventura Chapter of the Sierra Club and the Clean Power Alliance. On the ground organization by the EV Advocates of Ventura County.
