Event Report
Electrify Freeport (https://freeportcan.org/events/electrify-freeport) was billed as a clean energy expo. In addition to the NDEW event, which took place in the venue's parking lot, there were vendors and panel discussions inside the high school's cafeteria focusing on a variety of ways to embrace clean energy in and around the home. One of the three panel discussions was on Plug-In Vehicles. That panel was moderated by Freeport Town Councilor (and EV owner) John Egan, and featured Travis Ritchie, President of Maine EV Association; Josh Caldwell, Natural Resources Council of Maine; and Molly Siegel, Program Manager for Efficiency Maine. More than 75 people attended this 10:30 a.m. panel discussion on a beautiful Sunday morning. Local Plug-In related-sponsors included Lee Auto Mall, Lee Nissan LEAF of Topsham, Casco Bay Ford, and MJR Electric, a local woman-owned business focused on installing charging stations in the home. The vehicles for the NDEW portion of the event that seemed to generate the most excitement included the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning, Rivian R1T, Jaguar I-Pace, and Tesla Y and 3models. The organizing committee was pleasantly surprised by the number of people who expressed to FreeportCAN members how grateful they were for having this first-time NDEW event in their community.
