Event Report

The goal of the event was to demonstrate and inform the public about the network of EV chargers in New York State, so that EVs drivers can confidently take long distance trips. The location we selected had a bank of 4 of high-speed EV chargers (L3), installed by EvolveNY, at Tops Supermarket, appx a mile from the Taconic State Parkway.   We had support from the staff of EvolveNY, to trouble shoot issues with some of the chargers, apps that work best with the charger, payment options and the fact that their goal is to build a network of chargers every 50 miles, in destination/recreation spots. , where EV can be charged. We met EV owners who use these fast chargers because they do not have L2 chargers at home, commuters who stop by on the way home to charge and shop at the same time, EV drivers who wanted to learn how to use public chargers.  We also learnt about network of chargers installed by Electrify America at Walmarts, and EVGo at State Parks and the chargers on Thruways.  Our event was 3 hours long.  We learnt that EV drivers are not fazed by outages of chargers and will wait for them if they are busy.

Had good discussions with EV and PIH owners, who learnt about this event from National Drive Electric Week site.  Also talked to a few non EV owners.  One person came to learn how to find chargers on the road.

The event was worthwhile.

Event Description

Figuring out how/where to charge vehicles during road trips can be stressful. At this event we will demo one of the network of chargers that NYSERDA is installing in a partnership with EvolveNY.  Since charging takes time, ideal locations are places where one can shop, dine, and use their time productively. Tops, a family-owned grocery store in NY has provided space in their parking lot for charging.

These chargers are in the Town Center with restaurants, pizzerias, a public library, a bank, and a famous ice cream barn.

We will have a Bolt and a Volt to show.  We will show how to use apps to find charging stations along your route where you can break your journey to relax, dine and walk around to enjoy the area.

If you own an EV, bring it and be a part of the demo.
