Event Report

US, state and local elected officials were well represented at the event, including the following: State Sen. Dave Craven, Dept. of Environmental Quality Sec. Elizabeth Biser, Randolph County Commissioner Hope Haywood, State Rep. Allen McNeill, NC Zoo officials, NC DOT officials, NC Dept. of Cultural and Natural Resources officials, and US Rep. Ted Budd's office.

Randolph Electric Membership Corporation was the primary sponsor.  The North Carolina Zoo hosted the event, and the strong partnership between REMC and the Zoo, in addition to the participation and EV demonstrations from (the Triad Electric Vehicle Association) TEVA and Plug-In NC, made the event a success. ChargePoint was represented as they are the manufacturer of the new EV chargers at the Zoo. These chargers were the focal point of our event and were celebrated with a ribbon-cutting.

EVs on display were the following: the Nissan Leaf, multiple Chevy Bolts, several models of Teslas including the Plaid, the Roadster and others, a Polestar, the new Volvo, and the new Mustang Mach E. The organizers greatly appreciate the participation of the dealerships represented. The North Carolina Zoo also had several multi-passenger carriers retroactively fitted for electric power in addition to new trucks and service EVs on display.

This was the first event since 2019, which was the inaugural event.  Given that the organizers could not host the event in 2020, we did not know what to expect.  The attendance and positive spirit present far exceeded our expectations. We were especially pleased to host a local high school class and to engage with the public about the low cost of EV charging programs. Students and the public learned not only about new vehicles available to them, but also about the experience of owning an EV.
