Event Report

Winter Haven’s very first NDEW event, ”Drive Electric Day Winter Haven,” was a huge success!

This free, family-friendly outdoor event was held at the Winter Haven Farmers Market in beautiful downtown Winter Haven, FL, on Saturday, Sept 25, 2021.  The event featured local EV & PHEV owners showcasing their vehicles, answering visitor’s questions, & sharing their EV-enthusiasm. The Farmers Market's wonderful weekly live music, fresh produce, delicious food, and crafts booths added to the festivities.

Seven different EV & PHEV models were on display, including: Chevy Bolt, Tesla Y, Tesla 3, Nissan Leaf, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Ford C-Max Energi, and an all-electric race car built by the Mulberry High School Electrathon Team.

NDEW promotional items were popular with all attendees.  NDEW facemasks and hand sanitizers helped ensure attendee compliance with CDC-approved COVID-19 protocols of social distancing, masking, and sanitation.

Winter Haven Mayor Bradley Dantzler issued a Proclamation designating September 25, 2021, as “Drive Electric Day Winter Haven”.  The proclamation states that the City of Winter Haven is dedicated to leadership in clean energy, energy conservation, sustainability, and ensuring a healthy environment for its citizens.

Drive Electric Day Winter Haven was organized by the Polk EV Outreach Committee with the help of volunteers from the Ancient Islands Sierra Club’s Clean Energy Committee and the Polk Democratic Environmental Caucus of Florida.  The Polk EV Outreach Committee also hosted a sister NDEW event, Drive Electric Lake Wales, held at the Lake Wales Farmers Market on Sept 25.  The Polk EV Outreach Committee looks forward to planning Drive Electric Earth Day events in April, 2022.
