Event Report

The Albuquerque, NM Drive Electric Week show was hosted at the city’s Zoo-Biopark parking lot, at their 6-EV charger location in two rows. We had 35 electric vehicles including over a dozen Teslas (Model S, 3, X & Y) two VW ID.4's, two Mustang Mach-e’s, Porsche Taycan, Chevy Bolts, Nissan Leaf, Harley-Davidson Livewire e-cycle, UNM’s solar-electric race boat, Toyota Prius Prime, Hyundai Kona-e, BMW Mini-cooper-e and i3, a home-converted 1959 Morris Minor and the city’s new Proterra electric bus.

We had a table at the main Zoo entrance directing Zoo attendees to also see the EV show and many did so. Over the course of the 3 hour show we estimate 500 people attended. Our EV rides table signed up over 60 people to take a ride. City captain Tom Solomon presented a 20 min talk on the benefits of EV’s twice during the show. Local TV station KRQE interviewed Tom for their TV news segment that night and this is the KRQE segment on the event. We had a member give a morning news show interview in studio the day before the show. On Sept 11 we had 12 EV’s in an “Electric Car Club” as part of the NM State Fair parade in front of many thousands and the EV’s all carried signs advertising the 25-Sept EV show in their windows and on signs our walkers had accompanying the cars. We partnered with the City of Abq who co-sponsored the event with us so we had great cooperation from them (Kelsey Rader) and the Biopark-Zoo, (esp Allyson Zahm), including a table from the city sharing their city fleet electrification plans and progress. A great event. Except that the main box of swag arrived two days late, on Sept 27.
