Event Report
Westfield's first Alternative Energy Fair on Oct 2, 2021 was a start to a great new tradition in town.Mayor Shelley Brindle spoke to inspire the crowd to take more sustainable actions, including switching to EVs as well as checking out the e-bikes, e-lawn equipment, solar panels and more at the fair. The Westfield PD brought their hybrid car and e-bike, local band Save Mary played Car-inspired covers, Westfield south side pizza spot Outta Hand had refreshments on hand, and guests could view over 45 cars from dealers and local owners.
Dealer vehicles included Polestar, Karma, a pre-production BMW iX, Ford, Hyundai, Tesla, Volvo, and Audi. Central Jersey Electric Auto Association and local Westfield drivers brought even more including Honda, Nissan, Volkswagen, Chevy, Toyota and Fiat. Guests were impressed with the variety of electric vehicles on display and with the generosity of the local EV owners sharing their time and knowledge.
The crowd also learned about gardening, recycling, and composting from local volunteer organizations, including our resident high school expert on the spotted lanternfly. Greenworks and Scape-abilities brought e-landscaping equipment, Jay's Cycle and Trek of Summit brought e-bikes, and test-riding bikes and mowers was one of the most popular activities.
