Event Report

We had a great day! This was a first ever NDEW event in this fairly small community over just over 10,000 (Crossville, TN) that is part of a region in Tennessee called the "Upper Cumberland" that encompasses 14 mostly rural counties in the upper central part of the state. Tennessee Technological University received funding last year to help drive EV education in this region and part of the genesis for this event was that project, and that day we actually signed up about 5-6 people that will be receiving either a Nissan Leaf or a plug-in hybrid F-250 to drive for *2 weeks* at no cost to them as part of the project! Other big helpers include the Knoxville Electric Vehicle Association, or KEVA, who brought 6 of the total 9 EVs, and the TN Dept. of Environment & Conservation (TDEC) who helped setup our ability to use this wonderful yet easily accessible state park as our space. DriveElectricTN also provided assistance through staff that helped setup and manage the event.

We had a good mix of Teslas, Leafs and some Volts (no Bolts) but also had a local Zero SR/S, and several of our KEVA volunteers allowed attendees to drive their vehicles (and we followed all TN COVID-19 protocols with masks, sanitizing and wipe-down for the Ride & Drives.

Event Description

We are excited to bring this first-of-its-kind event to Crossville -- the Cumberland Mountain State Park EV Experience!

The organization for this event is being led by TN Tech University in partnership the TN Dept. of Environment and Conservation, Highlands Economic Partnership, East Tennessee Clean Fuels Coalition, and DriveElectricTN. TN Tech. is working toward becoming a regional leader for the outreach, education and adoption of EVs throughout what is called the "Upper Cumberland" region of TN, which includes 14 counties.

  • A variety of different kinds of plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) will be on hand;
  • we will educate you on how you charge an EV whether at home, at work, or en route to a destination;
  • show you where charging infrastructure for EVs currently exists in the area and what plans for additional infrastructure are coming; and
  • highlight a significant project called "Developing an EV Demonstration Testbed in the Upper Cumberland Region of Tennessee" which is working to bring EV awareness and test drives to citizens throughout the 14-county Upper Cumberland region.

We will be using COVID-19 safe practices - we request that attendees wear masks when approaching vehicles and people, and we will have hand sanitizer and sanitizing wipes on-hand for use.

The event will be at Cumberland Mountain State Park. We will be in the parking lot right in front of the Homestead Harvest Restaurant. If you are driving there you'll a) pull into the park and drive about 0.5 mile, b) pass the main office and cross the pretty bridge, c) right at the end of the bridge turn left and that will basically take you into the parking lot where we will be.
