Event Description

As part of National Drive Electric Week (September 15-21, 2014), Ocean State Clean Cities Coalition members will organize an event on Saturday, September 20, 2014. This event will serve to highlight the advances made in electric and hybrid vehicle technologies, as well as in the infrastructure that serves to support electric vehicles in Rhode Island and beyond. Garden City Center will host the event outside of  the Newport Creamery near the gazebo.  Electric vehicle drivers and enthusiasts will highlight the economic and environmental benefits, along with the excitement of owning an EV.  This event will feature electric vehicles, electric vehicle experts, policy makers, live entertainment, a raffle and refreshments.  Planning organizations include URI Outreach Center, the RI Office of Energy Resources, RI Department of Environmental Management, and Drive Electric Cars New England.

Electric Vehicle Show: If you own an electric vehicle come park together, pop your hoods, share your EV experiences with others, and show off your car!  Before you leave, you can get a charge at one of the two designated spots at Garden City Center.

Raffle: Stop by the table to enter a raffle for a $100 Garden City gift card.

EV Showcase and Ride-and-Drive: Come check out the latest in electric vehicles! We will have a variety of electric vehicles and representatives from dealerships to escort you on test drives and answer your questions.  There will be some giveaways available.

EV License Plates and other policies: Listen as RI DMV announces the new electric/hybrid license plate coming to Rhode Island.    Learn more about Rhode Island's leadership for electric vehicle deployment and environmental transportation initiatives.

End of the day Concourse: At the end of the event all owners of electric vehicles are encouraged to join in our EV concourse – cars will exit the parking lot in a procession and will head towards the next charging station in Rhode Island (there are 60 of them!)
