Event Report

The City of West Palm Beach Mayor's Office of Sustainability partnered with the Palm Beach Zoo & Conservation Society to kick off National Drive Electric Week on September 14th!

Our 2019 National Drive Electric Week Kick-Off event was well attended with 1,765 people exposed to the event and about 800 people throughout the day engaged with personal EV owners, vendors, and/or took an EV for a test drive. The Palm Beach Zoo has been a perfect location for us to hold this event year after year due to our similar focus and mission of conservation. We are also able to catch the eye of families on their way to the Zoo who may not have even known about the event taking place that day. We had some rain here and there throughout the day, but that did not stop all of our enthusiastic EV owners from coming out to show off their EVs and how many miles they had driven. In addition, we had a great group of vendors to speak to guests throughout the day. Our vendors included: Southern Alliance for Clean Energy (who graciously provided free test drives in two EVs, a Tesla Model X 90D and a Nissan LEAF SV), the Sierra Club, Tesla, and Florida Power and Light. We can't wait to start planning for next year! Follow us on Facebook and Twitter for Sustainability updates and future events (@WPBGreen).

Event Description

GET CHARGED UP Saturday, September 14th from 10am-2pm as the City of West Palm Beach Mayor's Office of Sustainability teams up with the Palm Beach Zoo & Conservation Society for a National Drive Electric event.  Learn all about electric vehicles (EVs) from our EV experts, find out ways to reduce your carbon footprint, and save wildlife.  Electric vehicles are fun to drive, are less expensive and more convenient to fuel than gasoline vehicles, are better for the environment, promote local jobs, and reduce our dependence on foreign oil. Are you considering going electric? Get behind the wheel of an electric vehicle and take it for a spin!

SACE (Southern Alliance for Clean Energy) will be providing free ride and drives during the event.

Personal EV owners are encouraged to attend and will have spots reserved under the solar array in the Palm Beach Zoo parking lot this year.

The event will also feature the award winning Solar Cat V2 built and designed by Western High School. The solar car and team won the national championship in the Solar Car Challenge Classic Division in July 2018 where they drove the solar car from Texas to California!
