Event Report
THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HELPED MAKE THE 3RD ANNUAL RIDE ELECTRIC A HUGE SUCCESS!
Our annual Ride Electric event, held in conjunction with the Ecology Center’s Saturday Downtown Farmers’ Market, gets bigger each year, with more registrants, attendees, plug-in drivers, and e-bike enthusiasts! We continued our focus on affordability, showcasing programs such as BAAQMD’s Clean Cars for All, and other resources for lower-income drivers. Our one challenge was finding enough parking for all the local EV owners who came out to share their love of plug-in vehicles!
356 people registered in advance, of which 71 were EV owners, representing 24 different plug-in vehicles. This is an increase of almost 90 registrants from 2018, and 200 registrants from 2017, our first NDEW event.
An estimated 300-500 people attended in total.
8 staff and 2 volunteers (representing the El Cerrito Environmental Quality Committee) worked on the event day: set-up and take down, monitoring bounce house, greeting attendees, etc.
12 additional volunteers (including agency staff) hosted 8 info tables: Ecology Center, City of Berkeley Office of Sustainability, Bay Area Air Quality Management District, Berkeley Climate Action Coalition Electrification Working Group, City of El Cerrito’s Environmental Quality Committee, East Bay Community Energy, League of Women Voters Berkeley, Albany, Emeryville, NorCal Solar, and the Sierra Club SF Bay Chapter.
2 entities hosted the event, contributing staff time, funds and promotional resources (the City of Berkeley and the non-profit Ecology Center), and an additional 4 Cities (El Cerrito, Albany, Oakland and Alameda) supported/ promoted the event.
4 additional community organizations helped with event promotion: 350 Bay Area, Sierra Club SF Bay Chapter, League of Women Voters Berkeley, Albany, Emeryville, and NorCal Solar.
4 local auto dealerships participated (Albany Subaru, San Leandro Nissan, Toyota of Berkeley and Weatherford BMW), displaying the latest all electric and plug-in hybrid models.
2 local bicycle stores (Pacific E-Bike and Spokes Bike Lounge) displayed almost a dozen different e-bikes.
An estimated 40 plug-in
enthusiasts showcased a range of vehicles, including a zero-emission
pick-up truck and motorcycle.
