Event Report
Now in its fifth year, the “Green Wheels Expo” sponsored by Fairfield, CT's Sustainable Fairfield Task Force, has emerged as one of the New England region’s most distinctive EV exhibitions and is firmly within the top ranks of exhibitions nationally in terms of number of vehicles on display. The event, on Sept. 14, attracted some 500 attendees who viewed 56 EVs, the most exhibited at any Connecticut event by far.
Models featured included the Tesla Model 3, Model S, Model X, and Roadster; the Chevrolet Bolt and Volt; the BMW i3 Rex and i8; the Honda Clarity Plug-in Hybrid; the Hyundai KONA Electric; the Jaguar I-Pace; the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV; the Nissan Leaf from model years 2011 through 2018; the Smart fortwo electric drive, and the Volvo XC90 AWD PHEV, representing nearly 900,000 e-miles driven.
New this year and a true event crowd-pleaser was an electric school bus from the City of White Plains (N.Y.), manufactured by the Lion Electric Company and operated by National Express Transit – offering excited kids and their parents a close-up look at the fast-approaching future of school transportation free of unhealthful diesel emissions.
The event’s sponsors included Aquarion, Greater New Haven Clean Cities Coalition, CT Southwestern Area Clean Cities Coalition, Live Green CT, Maritime Chevrolet, and United Illuminating.
On hand for the event, Fairfield First Selectman Mike Tetreau lauded event participants and organizers, and underscored the Town’s strong commitment to EV adoption -- emphasizing that “electric vehicles are quiet, safe, affordable, and really fun to drive.”
