The EV Ride & Drive and EV Showcase at the 2017 Ohio Pawpaw Festival was one of our most successful EV awareness events over the last 2 years of our organization's (UpGrade Ohio) EV advocacy work. The Pawpaw Fest drew up to 5,000 people on Saturday, the day of our EV event. We assume that at least 10%, at the peak, engaged with our Ride & Drive or our EV display.
The Ohio Pawpaw Festival was started by current County Commissioner, Chris Chmiel, who was also an instrumental player in the beginning phases of our "UpGrade Athens County" project. Chris participated by seeing the various EVs on display - which included a custom-made PEV, a Corbin Sparrow (photo), a Chevy Volt, and a Tesla Model X. The EVs available for our Ride & Drive, though only utilized by 5 people/couples, were the Ford Fusion plug-in hybrid and the Nissan Leaf.
In this week (Friday), we also applied to a local foundation's grant application for installing a public-use charging station; we applied to install the same ClipperCreek model that will be given away for NDEW 2017, for visitors of Nelsonville, Ohio's public square. If we win the ClipperCreek charger, we will be sure to install it in a key area that helps fulfill our mission of creating a robust electric transportation corridor on US-33 from Columbus through Appalachian Ohio to the West Virginia border.

2017 Pawpaw Festival | EV Ride & Drive
The Electric Vehicle (EV) Ride & Drive at the
2017 Ohio Pawpaw Festival at Lake Snowden will be hosted by Clean Fuels Ohio
and UpGrade Ohio on Saturday, September 16, 2017 from 12-5 pm. Get tickets to the Ohio Pawpaw Festival here: https://ohiopawpawfest.com/
The UpGrade Athens County Energy Village Tent will
register interested drivers at the UpGrade booth, nearest the entrance gate.
Participants will sign a release form and coordinate with a local electric car
owner from the EV Cruisers Club of Athens County, Ohio to take a test drive
around the festival. The Club has been administered and organized by UpGrade

The EV Ride & Drive is part of a larger effort
coordinated by Clean Fuels Ohio, and their Drive Electric Ohio initiative, for
the Midwest EVOLVE – Electric Vehicle Opportunities: Learning, eVents,
Experience project.
Midwest EVOLVE and its Clean Cities partners (Clean
Fuels Ohio) will hold events that provide a hands-on experience to test drive a
variety of locally available EVs, which helps consumers and fleets determine
the best vehicle(s) and charging options for their personal and/or fleet needs.
Drive Electric Ohio is a statewide initiative of
Clean Fuels Ohio to promote the use of electric vehicles and improve access to
charging infrastructure.
Why Drive EV?
The best way to reduce carbon emissions is to
utilize the cleaner, greener, more renewable electric grid to power
transportation. Only grid-rechargeable cars can attain the end goal of
zero-emissions and ensure fuel price stability. In addition, plug-in electric
cars make an investment in solar panels even more economically compelling.
