Event Notes

Event City Notable Participants
Denali Park Denali Park, AK Thank you to those that shared their experiences DRIVING ELECTRIC, Tanner Martakis, Tim Mccoy, Dennis Noble, Bubba and Jono, and to those who came by with interest in learning. All of us learned a lot! We had Electric Fat Bike, Tesla Model 3, Polaris 4x4 EV, a Chevy Bolt EV and a Chevy Volt EV plug in Hybrid. Possibly we will host another gathering end of September and again next Earth Day....... This is the future of all our transportation
Juneau Juneau, AK The Juneau Event was the official unveiling for the 1st EV charging station for a Fred Meyer Store in Alaska. The EV Charging Station comprises two (2) Level 3 chargers and two (2) level 2 chargers free to the public for use while shopping at Fred Meyer. Juneau is unique in its public-private partnership in that most charging stations are free to the public but the installation, operations, and maintenance costs are picked up by private entities. Mayor Beth Weldon read off a City and Borough of Juneau proclamation commemorating Juneau's participation in the 2019 Drive Electric Earth Day. The proclamation and the Juneau event was covered by local news media and radio stations. Juneau is ranked 3rd in the Nation in per capita of EV ownership. Juneau continues to grow both private and government usage of electric vehicles that is cleaner and more efficient to operate. The Fred Meyer charging station has quickly become a heavily used charging station in Juneau.
Birmingham Birmingham, AL We had a wonderful time greeting visitors to the Birmingham Botanical Gardens. We answered EV questions, showed our EVs, provided EV handouts, demonstrated zero emission lawn tools, and we even had a few solar panel demonstrations for guest to see. EV owners met with interested Consumers and showed our vehicles. Until next time. Charge on.
Scottsdale Scottsdale, AZ Our EVent was held at the longest running outdoor car show in the USA, Scottsdale Pavilions. We had just about every car make that is offered including the rare Honda Clarity and Jaguar I-Pace. We really have a lot of people that all are crazy about cars. Many have never seen most of the cars that we show. It's such a big and busy EVent we can't provide test drives. We meet interested people after the EVent and give them rides away from the crowds. We do lots of Education. We show charging cords and EVSE. We have battery cells from a Tesla and show them like the 18650 and 2170. Many people have never seen one before. We show the sales numbers and growth of Tesla the only true electric car maker in the USA.
Cupertino Cupertino, CA The Cupertino DEED event was a great success. Our Silicon Valley and San Jose EAA chapters combined efforts to host an EV display in conjunction with the City of Cupertino's Arbor Day and Earth Day celebration. We were one of dozens of booths with our info table, literature racks, EAA and DEED banners. Our EV display consisted of two vintage 2002 RAV 4 EVs and two Tesla Model 3's along with a Ford Focus EV that is part of the City of Cupertino's fleet. We had a prime location on the wide sidewalk across the street from the food trucks and had a lot of visitors to our booth. We have participated in this annual celebration with the City of Cupertino for several years and are invited back every year. Thanks to Plug in America for providing the literature and posters as well as sending the Tesla drivers to join our EAA team. One of the Tesla drivers joined our EAA chapter during the event.
Grass Valley Grass Valley, CA Our event was coordinated with the Earth Day celebration of Sierra College (Nevada County Campus) from 10-2 on Thurs., April 25th. We saw a lot of students who were interested in a future with cleaner energy, as well as a number of retirees who loved the idea of low- maintenance vehicles. If the event had been on the weekend instead of on a Thursday, I'm sure we would have had twice as many people.
Hermosa Beach Hermosa Beach, CA This event was attached to our California Assemblyman’s Earth Day Expo and Sea Level Rise Town Hall. Highlight of the event was 5 of the vehicles displayed offered an overview of the development of fully electric vehicles from the legacy 2002 RAV4EV up through and including all of the Tesla cars and a 2019 Zero fully electric motorcycle. That and the fact that the other displayed vehicles were the personal, fully electric vehicles, owned and driven by all 5 of our Hermosa Beach City Councilmembers!
Napa Napa, CA We had four vehicles on display, listed in decreasing order of excitement: Tesla X, Tesla 3, Fiat 500e (a hit with 15-20 year old girls), and a Hyundai Ioniq. We were next to center stage, so there were probably 2000+ pairs of eyeballs on the cars and may 100+ people interacting with us and our cars. We couldn't offer rides because the street was blocked off to vehicles once Earth Day Celebrations began. I personally had 30+ people sit in my Tesla 3 and ask me questions. Most of the materials from the kits that you provided were taken. I was so busy talking to people that I forgot to take photographs. The Napa Register covered Earth Day, and included a bit on the EVs. Here's the url: https://napavalleyregister.com/news/local/cleanup-and-celebration-mark-earth-day-festivities-in-napa/article_4588b5a4-ed02-5d82-afd9-9c00ea23d950.html
Oceanside Oceanside, CA This was our first time at Oceanside, CA's Earth Day Event. They have over 10,000 people in attendance and we saw just about everybody who strolled through the Festival. We had four cars on display, including a new Nissan Leaf from the Oceanside dealership. People also loved checking out the Chevy Bolt, Tesla Model S, Cadillac ELR Plug in hybrid and talking to the owners about the benefits of EVs. We look forward to next year in Oceanside!
Redwood City Redwood City, CA The Redwood City DEED event was a great success. Our Silicon Valley and San Jose EAA chapters combined efforts to host an EV display in conjunction with Redwood City's STEAM Fest. (STEAM = Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math). We were one of many booths with our info table and literature racks, EAA and DEED banners. Many of the attendees were young STEAM students from local elementary schools with their teachers and and a few parents. We brought some solar powered toy cars and the kids had fun seeing the cars move in the sunny spots and stop in the shade. It was a nice learning lesson for them about solar energy and electric cars. We also gave away small toy cars (not motorized) for the kids and tomato plants for the parents. Our EV display consisted of a vintage 2002 RAV 4 EV, a Volkswagen Golf that was converted from a gasoline car to an Electric car by our San Jose EAA Secretary George Stuckert and a Cobra race car that was built as an EV from a Factory 5 kit and has been raced at Laguna Seca raceway near Monterey, CA clocking faster lap times than many Teslas. We had a nice location near the wide sidewalk and had a lot of visitors to our booth. Our EVs were parked next to our booth. The EVs were a static display, however local car dealers provided test drives in a Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid mini van, a Chevy Bolt EV, A Tesla Model 3, a Tesla Model S and a Nissan Leaf. This was our first time at this event. Thanks to Plug in America for providing the literature and posters as well as sending the Tesla drivers to join our EAA team.
San Diego San Diego, CA 15 Very EV enthusiasts and EV curious folks enjoyed checking out 7 Evs in the Library parking lot. Nissan Regional Rep, Bradley Farr attended with a Nissan, adding to the Teslas, Mitsubishi SUV, and Mini-Cooper. All enjoyed Raejean's 20 minute EV powerpoint talk "Electric Cars . . .Demystifyied". The Nissan Rep even took notes! There is always something to learn even if you are experienced EV Owner and regularly engage consumers. We are sure that several folks went out the door ready to test drive at dealers!
San Francisco San Francisco, CA Three electric cars on display - Tesla Model 3, Model S and a Chevy Bolt EV - drew students and staff to our DEED / GGEVA table at the University of San Francisco Earth Day event. Our three volunteers - one with each car - engaged in dialogue and answered questions about the cars and charging. We found out that an increasing number of staff are turning to plug in cars for their commute.
San Francisco San Francisco, CA The large display of EVs attracted a broad spectrum of attendees and appealed to multiple demographics in a location which has never hosted such an event. EVs on display for test drives ranged from used and very affordable to high end Teslas and Jaguars.
Santa Clara Santa Clara, CA The Santa Clara DEED event was a great success. Our Silicon Valley and San Jose EAA chapters combined efforts to host an EV display in conjunction with the City of Santa Clara's Arbor Day and Earth Day celebration. We were one of several booths with our info table and literature racks, EAA and DEED banners. This event was on a Thursday and most of the attendees were young students from local elementary schools with their teachers and and a few parents. We brought some solar powered toy cars and the kids had fun seeing the cars move in the sunny spots and stop in the shade. It was a nice learning lesson for them about solar energy and electric cars. Our EV display consisted of a vintage 2002 RAV 4 EV, a 2011 Blue Think City Car and two Tesla Model 3's. We had a nice location near the wide sidewalk and had a lot of visitors to our booth. Our EVs were parked on the lawn behind our booth. We have participated in this annual celebration with the City of Santa Clara for several years and are invited back every year. Thanks to Plug in America for providing the literature and posters as well as sending the Tesla drivers to join our EAA team.
Santa Cruz Santa Cruz, CA Many visitors of all ages. We have been doing our EV display with our city's local Earth Day here in Santa Cruz, CA for 11 or 12 years, starting with conversions, a RAV4 that escaped crushing, a Solectria, a T-Zero which is the precursor to the Tesla Roadster by AC Propulsion, an electric moped, before manufacturers began production cars. With great satisfaction, we have experienced increasing interest, better questions reflecting greater knowledge about EVs and people just needing a couple of questions asked before making their first purchase of an EV. Our EVs combined represented about 775,063 Oil-Free Miles of driving. We had an ebike display with test rides. We are also happy to report that we learned that our elected Sheriff of Santa Cruz County just bought a Tesla Model 3 that he loves and says it is the most fun car he has ever driven. When his former deputy saw it, he bought one as well. Progress!
Thousand Oaks Thousand Oaks, CA The EV event was integrated into our larger Arbor/Earth Day event and included a talk by David Eagle, founder of Current EV titled "Electric Vehicle Curious" to help potential EV buyers understand leases, rebates, charging and other common issues that confuse non EV owners. We were also fortunate to be able to have one of the first Audi e-trons on display.
Ventura Ventura, CA For the third year at this location, the EV Advocates of Ventura County provided a collection of local electric vehicles along with their drivers to educate others about the benefits of EV's . We showed 15 vehicles, representing commercially available BEVs and PHEVs, including the City of Ventura's Kia Soul parking enforcement unit. Throughout the day our members carried out active dialogue with interested event goers while sharing our collective knowledge of many years and over 500,000 miles of EV experience. Part of the EcoFest was a scavenger hunt for kids, in which our booth participated. Each kid was required to answer a question, and were awarded stamps toward a free ice cream. We asked the the question, "Other than gasoline, name something you can use as fuel for your car?" It was very gratifying to have kids as young as five answer "Electricity". They are indeed our future and future EV drivers. Good times were had by all and we look forward to more successful events in the future.
West Hills West Hills, CA Plug In America staffed a booth with educational materials about plug-in electric vehicles. We also had two PEVs on display with their owners at the booth to answer any questions about driving electric. The event was very successful with lots of Plug In America newsletter sign ups and attendees stopping by our booth to learn more about PEVs!
Golden Golden, CO We provided patio space to two vendors -- Sunrun (solar PV) and EVmatch (plug-share business). In a separate section of our parking lot, Best eBikes USA gave free test rides of electric bicycles and had a trailer-full of models to choose from. I have no still photos, but I shot a short video tour of the event at its peak, which can be video on YouTube at https://youtu.be/pI2hvMuDyEg -- still photos could be extracted from it.
Montrose Montrose, CO Great variety of EVs at the event. The weather was a bit chaotic which likely led to the lower than expected attendee turnout. The EV owners made the event awesome though!
Washington Washington, DC We hosted our event at the 2019 Washington Auto Show, which was featuring an EZEV Drive track, where our attendees got a chance to participate and ride along, without the public interfering, and getting the inside info fro Excellon who were sponsoring the EZEV Ride along event at the show. We got to hear from and ask questions of officials and technical staff members from Electrify America, Audi, Kia, and Subaru. Jaguar was also offering rides in its ipace at the show which our attendees took advantage of. Kia hosted lunch for our attendees which was an excellent way to get everyone together.
Rehoboth Beach Rehoboth Beach, DE We had a 1974 all-electric Porsche conversion on display. One of the 3.2 v cells went to 0.0 and could not be revived. We had a spare. So we yanked the bad one and replaced it with the good one, right on DEED day.
Fort Walton Beach Fort Walton Beach, FL We had several owners bring out their EVs. Mostly Teslas but also a BMW i3 and a Nissan LEAF. Also two Zero motorcycles. Tesla owners did about 10 test drives. Overall attendance was less than expected.
Miami Miami, FL We were able to arrange having a Tesla X brought into the FROST Museum to generate traffic. Additionally, we created a Commuter CO2 Calculator work sheet for families to see how much GHGs they emit from their weekly work commute.
Pensacola Pensacola, FL Attendance was incredible. The Pensacola Earth Day attracted a fantastic crowd. The Southern Alliance for Clean Energy was on hand providing test drives all day in a Model 3. There was a 30 minute wait list the entire day. We had a new Nissan LEAF, an older Nissan LEAF and about 8 Teslas.
Plant City Plant City, FL The 5 who showed up were great and a hit with the crowd.
Sarasota Sarasota, FL We had over 45 owners register to show their cars, which represented more than 1,000,000 EV miles driven. The Sarasota Tesla club with more than 700 members, sent 20 Teslas, representing all their models. Our local news station covered the event as a lead-off to their nightly news: https://www.snntv.com/story/40339157/electric-vehicle-expo-in-sarasota
Satellite Beach Satellite Beach, FL A Tesla Model X came towing his 21 foot center console boat. This showed everyone that you can also tow things with an electric car. This is very important in Florida!
St. Petersburg St. Petersburg, FL We had a beautiful day with a very high turnout. The EVs were placed prominently near the front of the stage. People were engaged with the EV drivers and asking questions and getting answers. It was a great day!
Augusta Augusta, GA Augusta area EV owners, dealers and charging companies came together at Augusta University to share ideas, experiences and knowledge about EVs. The event included Tesla Model 3s, Model S, BMW i3, Nissan LEAFs, Ford Cmax Energi plug in and charging displays by Clipper Creek and Chargepoint. Electric transportation informational tables were provided by the following host organizations: EV Club of the South, Savannah River Chapter of Sierra Club, Plug In America, Southern Alliance for Clean Energy, Electrify the South, Clean Cities-GA and the Southeast Energy Efficiency Alliance.
Savannah Savannah, GA The event was well attended with lots of foot traffic between vendor displays set up along the tree line in Daffin Park. Plug In America’s educational booth handed out an EV Guide, Charging 101, and Georgia Incentives Sheet. Behind the booth was a display of 3 PEVs with their owners, including a 2018 Tesla Model X, 2018 Tesla Model 3, and 2017 Chevrolet Bolt. The display attracted a constant flow of attendees who engaged with the owners, explored the vehicles, and saw several performances of the “Tesla dance” by the Tesla Model X. Two additional PEVs and an electric bicycle, a 2019 Giant, were also on display in the parking lot directly behind the PEV display. The PEVs in the parking lot included a 2018 Honda Clarity Plug-in Hybrid and a 2018 Tesla Model 3, which were available to give rides to attendees. The event was definitely a success!
Hilo Hilo, HI Our Drive Electric Earth Day event was held in conjunction with the University of Hawaii’s Earth Day celebration. There were over 1000 visitors of all ages through out the 5-hour event. (The organizer expected 1500.) We had limited display space but we were able to squeeze in 5 electric cars - a Mitsubishi i-MIEV, Mercury Lynx, Chevy Bolt, Tesla Model S, and Tesla Model 3. The crowd snapped up our handouts, asked many questions, and took countless selfies with the cars. Our Model 3 was especially popular with our guests - a handful were potential buyers who had yet to sit in one. We were especially impressed with the students who visited (all grades were represented). Many recognized the Tesla brand and quite a few were aware of the environmental benefits of EVs. Some were even aware of specifics like the ideal time of day for charging a vehicle. Importantly, there were a few guests who were not aware of the more affordable options that are now available and are now seriously considering an EV. (This demonstrates the value of awareness-building and myth-busting in getting our friends and neighbors to adopt electrics.)
Kilauea Kilauea, HI We drove a small* but nice caravan from Kilauea to Anahola, where the Kauai Surfriders helped us to facilitate a productive beach cleanup. We filled several large contractor bags with marine debris and got to explain and chat about EVs with each other, interested public, beachgoers and the attending Surfrider members. Afterwards we had and a fun potluck. * The Sunday before Earthday fell on Easter Sunday, which we only realized when we had everything lined up and organized... many EV drivers could not make it and our next EVent will be on a more family-friendly day.
Des Moines Des Moines, IA We displayed EVs/PHEVs in conjuction with the Earth Day walk along the river front. We were granted 5 parking spaces for static display and 3 spaces at the back of the lot for cars giving rides. We had a good mix of vehicles, Bolts, Tesla 3s, MINI, BMW i3 and Kia. One of our local utilities sent a representative with a Bolt. Our location was a little out of the way but we were at the mercy of the site.
Des Moines Des Moines, IA We partnered with the city of Des Moines Trash Bash event. All of the Trash Bash team captains gathered at Cowles Commons in downtown Des Moines to pick up their event kits. Unfortunately none of the people who signed up on the DEED website showed up for the event. There was a "car show" of one Bolt.
Moscow Moscow, ID Despite the rainy weather, we had quite a few people who brought EVs and came to find out about driving electric in rural E WA and N ID.
Belleville Belleville, IL We had a good number of enthusiastic participants and some great attendees who enjoyed our cars and the information we provided.
Indianapolis Indianapolis, IN Because of the very early setup requirement only a few vehicles were able to get into the display area. But we had a Tesla X, a Jaguar I Pace, and the new Zero dealer had 4 new models from Zero motorcycles there.
Zionsville Zionsville, IN Excellent showing by Hoosier EVA and larger EV community. DEED created excitement and drew the community to Zionsville's annual Z'Greenfest. Z'Greenfest attendees love to visit the EVs.
Concordia Concordia, KS We gained a lot of publicity for our Level 3 Charging Station project that we want to build on campus.
Lawrence Lawrence, KS The Sierra Club/Wakarusa Group and the Sustainability Action Network organized a two-part event for Earth Day. We had nine EVs join the traditional Earth Day parade, followed by an EV showcase adjacent to the park where Earth Day was being celebrated. In theory we represented 11 EVs, because one of the Tesla 3 drivers has a Nissan LEAF that was in our NDEW show last September, and the Tesla X driver has a Mercedes B-Class B250e that also was in our NDEW show last September. But they could drive only one car at a time! And another of the Tesla 3 drivers had attended our NDEW show last September, and based on his experience at that show, he bought his Tesla one month later.
Manhattan Manhattan, KS It went well! There were 3 volunteers this year (including myself), each of whom had a different EV (a GM Volt, Nissan Leaf, and Tesla 3). I estimate that 10 people stopped by and talked with us. Of those 10 people, we gave rides to 5 people (all wanted to get a test ride in the Tesla 3). Next year should be even better. We'll get scheduled earlier, and hopefully have more folks with EVs join us, we should create a banner to be more visible, and do more PR for the event ahead of time. This year, I found out about DEED one week before the event, and only got the other 2 volunteers on board over the 3 days prior to Earth Day. We therefore were unable to get any PR out prior to the event. In terms of hours of volunteer hours spent, I spent about 5.5 hours (4 hours of preparation, 1.5 hours at the event), and the other two volunteers spent about 2 hours each (30 mins of preparation, 1.5 hours at event).
Prairie Village Prairie Village, KS We gave rides to 20 car loads with 6 different EVs and 2PHEVs. Lots of people sat in EV and asked questions at length. We gave out information that visitors could take home. It was well publicized at our church and by email blasts. It was in the local Greenability enews.
Lexington Lexington, KY Cloudy with a high temp of a cool 57 degrees but the rain held off until the end of the event. Otherwise a very good event with lots of people coming by to look at all of the EVs I Good Foods parking lot and ask questions. Members of EVolve KY displayed BMW i3, Nissan Leaf, Honda Clarity PHEV, Tesla Model S, 3, and X.
Lexington Lexington, KY A short "happy hour" event, but in just 2 hours 33 people came by to look at the EVs in West Sixth's parking lot and ask questions. Members of EVolve KY displayed Nissan Leaf, and Tesla Model S, and 3. Audi of Lexington displayed their new all electric SUV "e-tron". Many attendees were also interested in Sierra Club's information table inside West Sixth Brewing. The weather was very nice for this event.
Louisville Louisville, KY Students from Louisville's Brown School were shown three different EVs (a converted 1973 Porsche 914, a 2011 Nissan Leaf and a new Tesla Model S). We told them about the features and benefits of electric cars and let them sit in the vehicles. Students ranged in age from elementary to high school age.
Baton Rouge Baton Rouge, LA Earth Day Celebrations 2019 With April showers comes Earth Day, a time to celebrate our environment and re-examine our effect on the world around us. Though Earth Day itself fell on April 22nd, environmental celebrations span the entirety of April and showcase a commitment to a cleaner and healthier planet. This April, LCF was once again a part of LSU’s Louisiana Earth Day festivities on Sunday, April 28th. The event, held at the Parker Colosseum, featured over 70 exhibitors offering various activities and exhibits relating to studying or taking care of the environment. LCF hosted an EV Alley right outside of Parker Colosseum for visitors to get a firsthand look at some popular electric vehicles and learn more about EVs. EV Alley 2019 featured Tesla models S, 3, and X along with a Honda Clarity, a Chevy Volt, and a Jaguar iPace. Visitors were able to check out the vehicles’ features and chat with the owners to learn more about what owning an EV or hybrid is like. The event was a success, with many coming out to visit the booths inside Parker Colosseum and take a stroll down EV Alley. Many curious visitors had questions about EVs and the realities of owning one that LCF staff and the vehicle owners were able to answer. Some had never seen what’s under the hood of an EV or hybrid and were curious about how they worked compared to a traditional gasoline-running vehicle. LCF’s Executive Director, Ann Vail, even did an interview with WBRZ about EV Alley and the Earth Day festivities. While LCF has been celebrating Earth Day at LSU, our member organizations have been mounting their own Earth Day celebrations and promotions this month.
New Orleans New Orleans, LA The Southeast Louisiana Clean Fuel Partnership hosted a Drive Electric Earth Day event in conjunction with New Orleans City Park’s annual Earth Day celebration on April 16th. Local electric vehicle owners and dealerships brought their cars to create a special zero-emission vehicle alley on Victory Ave in front of the Botanical Gardens. Most attendees said it was their first time ever seeing an electric vehicle in person and were thrilled to get behind the wheel of the various models on display including a Tesla Model 3, Tesla Model S, Tesla Model X, Jaguar I-Pace, Nissan LEAF, and Honda Clarity. The event was made possible through the support of local EV owners and advocates like New Orleans City Park, Paretti Jaguar of New Orleans, RideTHISbike and with the help of national sponsors Plug In America, Sierra Club, Electric Auto Association, and FLO.
Beverly Beverly, MA This was a much smaller event than last year's Drive Electric Week event, due largely to the mediocre weather. Thankfully we had a number of EV owner show up, and the Beverly Bike Committee had an event right next to ours. Lots of good "cross pollination" between events.
Braintree Braintree, MA We had incentives information provided by Center for Sustainable Energy (CSE) and ride & drives provided by Quirk Nissan and Toyota of Braintree.
Danvers Danvers, MA Because we were part of Zero Waste Recycling Day, many people saw and/or participated in the event.
Lowell Lowell, MA The rain did not stop the electric vehicle parade through downtown Lowell or the spirit of the hundreds of people that came out to see electric cars at the Lowell Earth Day Festival at the UMass Lowell Inn and Conference Center on May 5, 2019 from 12-4 pm. With limited parking space available, 15 owners and 2 dealers brought fully electric EVs or PHEV plugin cars to the event. Visitors had the opportunity to test drive the new Hyundai Kona as well as the Nissan Leaf. In addition, electric bikes were also available for test drives and were popular with visitors. Fan favorites included playing with the sounds of the Tesla Model X and driving the new Hyundai Kona. Lastly, Lowell Drives Electric received a visit from a Solectria EV car, one of the first American electric cars available for order in the US decades ago.
Quincy Quincy, MA The event was coordinated with the Quincy Environmental Network's Earth Day hike through Faxon Park. Folks who came to the hike also stopped to see the ev's, ask questions and go on test drives. We also had Green Energy Consumers Alliance present to answer questions about their Drive Electric EV discount program. Other non-profit organizations present were the Quincy Fair Trade Task Force and Quincy Climate Action Network. 8 EV owners registered on the DEED event page and 17 people showed up with their EV's. We also had a cut away 2010 Toyota Prius and an electric pedal assist bike on site which drew visitors in. Earth Day coloring posters, crayons and pinwheels were handed out to the children which kept them busy while their parents asked questions. It was a great family event and provided a networking opportunity for Quincy residents interested in creating and celebrating a cleaner greener Earth.
Shrewsbury Shrewsbury, MA This is the third year we've used this venue. Ice cream. Coffee. The chocolate bunnies at Hebert's Candy Mansion were 60‰ off. 😆 The final tally: 28 Teslas 3 Volts 3 E-Golfs 1 Honda Clarity 1 Kia Soul EV 3 Gen 2 Leafs 1 Mitsubishi plug in hybrid 1 Chevy Spark 1 RAV4 ev 1 Brammo Impulse electric motorcycle 1 gocart 44 total
Shrewsbury Shrewsbury, MA Shrewsbury Electric and Cable Operations (SELCO) kicked off their event at Lakeway Commons with a free tree giveaway alongside electric vehicles for customers to review! We were please to see that Commissioner John Lebeaux of the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources was able to stop by the April 27th Earth Day Event as well! Thank you to everyone who helped make this event possible.
South Hadley South Hadley, MA The folks who attended the event were able to speak with knowledgeable SHELD staff about their Smart EV Charging program and incentives on a free level 2 wi-fi connected charging station for EV customers.
Winchester Winchester, MA Winchester hosted 13 Electric Vehicle Ambassadors and 4 dealer test drive vehicles. 23+ test drives in dealership vehicles and numerous rides in ambassadors took place. Though the weather was chilly, everyone had a really great time. The conversation went on well past our 3:00 closing time. Our over 30 volunteers graciously hosted a constant stream of visitors. We are grateful to the police department for blocking off the Laraway Road area and patrolling during our event. Thanks also to Green Energy Consumer Alliance for sending two volunteers to help us sign in our test drives. It is worth noting that the conversation about EVs was enthusiastic and animated. Brian and his Tesla 3 had a great display in the front trunk showing a sample battery, explaining the batteries and gave out fact sheets. Connall was a real attention grabber with his Tesla X opening it's high drama doors from time to time. We had 5 Bolts with their owners waxing lyrical about their vehicles. Woody demonstrated the new EV charging station when he plugged in his Bolt. Conversation went beyond EVs to solar PV, off shore wind and community choice aggregated electricity as we all discussed how to minimize our carbon footprints. VICTORY!
Wheaton Wheaton, MD Are DEED event was part of the Montgomery County Greenfest greater event. Our DEED event was organized by Poolesville.Green in coordination with One Montgomery Green and local EV groups. Our space only allowed for 12 EVs, but they were supported by other EV owners. We had the first in the nation Police EV Chevy Bolt from the Hyattsville City Police Department as well as a Zero Motorcycle. Montgomery County Police, as well as the Park Police, was very interested in learning more about them. We had the manufacturer Audi and local dealership Fitzgerald participating. The day had a continuous flow of excited and inquisitive visitors. The event was a resounding success and we will do it again next year.
Waterville Waterville, ME Despite a cool rainy day, we had over 160 people attend, 19 cars on display or for test drives, and even a food truck. Central Maine motors came with 4 EVs, and the turnout was so good, they brought in two more. There were four private Teslas for viewing and one of them gave numerous test drives. The two non-profits and three solar PV vendors in attendence were glad to be in the field house because of the weather. We got front page press coverage in the Waterville paper: https://www.centralmaine.com/2019/04/27/electric-cars-touted-saturday-at-thomas-college-in-waterville/
Kalamazoo Kalamazoo, MI Great variety of vehicles represented, including the new Leaf, SmartforTwo ED, Prius Prime, Honda Clarity, and four different Tesla models. Classic Tesla Roadster drew a lot of attention. The head of Alternate Energy solutions for our local utility came in the company Bolt. WMU team showed the fully solar powered Sunseeker competition car.
Muskegon Muskegon, MI Despite the cold weather, the Muskegon Drive Electric Earth Day event had a great turnout in terms of vehicles, EV enthusiasts, and interested attendees. Since the event was held in conjunction with the Muskegon Earth Day Expo at the Farmer's Market, we had a considerable amount of walk-up foot traffic. The organizer of the Earth Day Expo was pleased with our participation in their show and encouraged to come back again for future events.
Rochester Rochester, MI First year of running this event in two locations. We went to the additional location to accommodate the large number of plugins signed up and decided to use EV's as a shuttle service between the two locations giving us a lot more ride and drives. Ran our first Summon Showdown race. All of these ideas need to get refined in future events, but we are happy with the concepts. We had a lot of interest from new attendees.
White Bear Lake White Bear Lake, MN This was an Earth Day event combined with a ride and drive. We served tocos in our mall area where we also had approximately 15 tables with student exhibitors. I hadn't planned on having the extra cars from people signing up through this registry, but it was very nice. All that showed up were wonderful. It was a great day.
Independence Independence, MO It was a beautiful day for the event. Beautiful enough for a sunburn lol. We had quite a different selection of purely electric vehicles. Was expecting some hybrids but they didn’t show up. Also tried to get a new Nissan Leaf and and a Jaguar iPace but they weren’t able to make it. We had a business display a Leaf to show that an EV works for a business too. All the test rides were done in Tesla’s. Not a huge amount of foot traffic due to the Easter weekend but all the customers going to Natural Grocers noticed us.
Kansas City Kansas City, MO Perfect weather made for good crowds for our Earth Day event on the 20th. We enjoyed strong support from the staff at the Anita B. Gorman Discovery Center, part of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, which is located immediately south of our energy demonstration house, Project Living Proof, in midtown Kansas City. April 20th was their biggest single event of the year, the Native Plant Sale, which filled their substantial parking lot 30 minutes before the sale began. We had a total of six cars available for test drives or to just ride along; two Tesla Model 3s, a Tesla S, along with a Chevy Bolt, a Nissan LEAF and a Hyundai Ioniq PHEV. Business was steady from 10:00 to 3:00 on the day of the event, with MEC volunteers and staff directing visitors across the Discovery Center parking lot to visit Project Living Proof. The chance to experience an EV test drive was the first thing visitors saw on arriving at PLP, and steady demand mean that test drives continued for an additional 30 minutes after the official close of the event. Along with MO DNR staff, the Mid-America Electric Automobile Association's members were wonderfully supportive, supplying half of the cars volunteered, with more drivers interested in participating than we had parking spaces available.
Asheville Asheville, NC We were privileged to have two Jaguar Ipaces and the new Audio E-Tron present. The were many test rides given in the Jaguar Ipaces. However, by far, Tesla Owners made up more than half of the show and many came just to ride in the Model 3. In addition, two local solar companies were present and one company had a large enough array and battery system to charge an EV. There was a local ice cream company (The HOP) and a local electric bicycle tor company present as well. The freezers for the ice-cream and the speaker system were powered by a Nissan Leaf with a power inverter.
Greensboro Greensboro, NC A great event! Weather was perfect. The City of Greensboro blocked off a downtown street where we had access to 2 blocks. The City also provided one of their new Protera electric buses! How awesome is that! Then we had two (2) electric boats, one being towed by a Tesla X. It garnered a lot of attention. (See www.budsin.com) for more info on one of the electric boats that is hand made in NC and sold throughout USA and exported as well. We had over 30 EV’s, including one of the original Toyota’s that Tesla built for them a long while back. Our attendance was estimated at 800 people. Thanks to DEED, we have other EV enthusiasts that found out about the event, and a few that drove over 100+ miles just to attend and show their EV in our event. Thanks DEED! The DEED signage was great. Thank you!
Raleigh Raleigh, NC We hosted the event at the new Electrify America stations in Raleigh, NC. The news conducted an interview during the event to further increase awareness of electric vehicles and the new charging stations.
Raleigh Raleigh, NC The Earth Day Raleigh NC event, hosted by the NC Clean Energy Technology Center and NC State's Centennial Campus Development Office, was considered a success. The site host has already asked us to do another one. The private company employees and NC State employees, who work on Centennial Campus, are a great target audience for EV ownership. We had a strong turnout with approximately 400 attendees and more that 30 test drives taken. The success of the event can be heavily attributed to the support and assistance from local EV owners and OEM dealers (Fred Anderson Toyota, Leith BMW, Leith Nissan, Capital Chrysler and Team Power Sports). We paired the EV car show with food trucks on site. This combination drew a steady crowd around the lunch hours. Thank you to all who participated.
Bellevue Bellevue, NE Sarpy County Earth Day listed our EV exhibit as the largest in Nebraska and emphasize it in their publicity for their event - t.v., radio, billboards, news magazines, etc. They provided space for up to 40 vehicles in the main parking lot next to the entrance of their indoor displays. They provided us with a table inside. They awarded our EV Team leader as an "Environmental Champion" on stage with photos for the media. They involved our reps in all phases of planning for the Earth Day. NOTE: Their leader(of Green Bellevue) owns a Leaf and is on our EV Team and their administrator is on the MoValley Sierra Club ExCom.
Omaha Omaha, NE Earth Day Omaha 2019 was an ideal platform for an EV Display. There were 5000 -10,000 attending. Many came by our EV table and we nudged all we could to visit our EV display. They placed our table next to the EV Display parking lot. Those supervising the exhibit and staffing the table were able to support each other as a result. At the table nearly 200 answered our questionnaire on what it would take to get them to purchase or lease an EV (size, price, range, charging speed, public charger availability). Current owners signed up for our monthly Nebraska EV Newsletter. Our EV team developed and laminated excellent lists and signs for our EV table.
Keene Keene, NH Our event was rescheduled and suffered from this. Originally with 27 scheduled vehicles and attached to a lively Earth Day Festival - it was postponed due to rain. The rescheduled day was cloudy, light rain at times, and very windy. Many of the cars and some of the volunteer staff could not be there. Other chose that day not to show due to the weather. I will say that the hearty souls that did come out - both the EV owners as well as the attendees were there for a reason. Many who came wanted to test drive or ride in cars and were thinking of purchasing within the year. We were disappointed but felt it was worth showing up and to brighten our day a Tesla owner came to had purchased his car after test driving at our previous event. He took many people out and let two high school boys sit in his car - they were so thrilled. I hope our next event for NDEW will have owners that purchased from this event. That will make the hours planning that didn't turn into a reality due to weather this year - worth it all. We can never give up; we make a difference! No great photos as we could barely set up our tent due to the winds and trying to keep everything nailed down and working with a skeleton crew - we were happy to be there and make sure that the drivers had coffee to stay warm!
Nashua Nashua, NH Our event, sponsored by Drive Electric NH, took place at the Nashua Public Library. We started with an hour long presentation in the library theatre. The Electric Car, Is It Right for You? Three presenters spoke about Can you us an EV as an everyday car, all things charging and a real experience of buying my first electric car. There was a good question and answer session following the presentations. Then everyone headed out to the parking lot to see the 14 EV's and talk with the owners. Except for the cold day the event was a great success.
Maplewood Maplewood, NJ In addition to the seventeen registrants, we had a number of others show up, including Caleb Cohen with his Zero motorcycle, town councilwoman Nancy Adams with her Model 3 and Bob McCoy with a plug-in Prius, along with several others. Many thanks to Schumacher Chevrolet, which provided to 2019 Bolts, a white one for display and an Shock Yellow for test drives. A number of people got unofficial test rides from some members of the "Maplewood is Green" team, showing that even a Chevy Bolt has surprising acceleration.
Somerset Somerset, NJ The Drive Electric event in Somerset Municipal Complex went well. The whole event was organized by Environmental Commission and Green Team. We have had great variety of plugin vehicles, mostly from volunteers but also 2 dealers. As expected, the highest count was for Teslas, specifically Model 3. All production models were represented. We had also Chevy Bolts, Volts, one Spark EV, new and old Nissan Leaf, 2 Zero S motorcycles, Plugin Prius, Prius Prime, BMW i3 rex, Honda Clarity PHEV. Jaguar i-Pace (dealer), Chrysler Pacifica e-Hybrid (dealer) and e-bike. In addition, the township showcased 3 of their 5 new Chevy Bolts, fleet used for construction code office. To complement the EV display, we have also arranged for EV charger installers to show up, specifically Greenspot and EV Charger Installers of America. Their tables had many visitors. The EV guru Tom Moloughney brought eMotorWerk EVSE for display. In addition, Footprints 2 Wing had educational display on Race to Zero Carbon. The event was organized to occur right before council meeting to ensure participation by council members. The township special projects manager Saffie Kallon helped with event promotion in local media, on township website and secured parking field and direction signs. She also arranged for Youth Council kids to help with table setup and games. Commissioners provided refreshments. Despite the good weather and significant advertisement efforts, the number of visitors was below our expectations. The lesson learnt was that it is better to have EV shows as part of larger event to attract residents broadly. We will consider adding EV show for Farmers Market later in June and during annual Franklin Day Festival in September (perhaps as NDEW). Among the visitors was a delegation from Togo. Luckily, the event was well covered by Franklin Reporter & Advocate via Facebook Live. The 40 minute video was very nice and the link is available.
Upper Saddle River Upper Saddle River, NJ Our day began with a parade of dealers and EV Owners. Following the parade, dealers offered product demonstrations (rides) in all of the Tesla models, Nissan Leaf, Mini Countryman and the 2019 World Car of the Year Jaguar iPace. Owner brought cars from all of the plug-in models. We even had a Tesla Model 3 that was driverless and was seen a few times showing off for the visitors. We also had groups like the Sierra Club, local environmental Committee and Scouts who served beverages and snacks.
Williamstown Williamstown, NJ Sustainable Monroe Township partnered up with our local EV club, the South Jersey Electric Vehicle Club, and had a great day. Folks that came out were very interested in the cars, and we did have a few on the spot test drives happening. One of our Town's Council Members attended, and they are working with us to install our 1st public Charging station in town. We're looking forward to next year, and have invited the owners who attended to our Annual Green Fair in September. Sustainable Monroe Township had a table at the event, as well as the West Jersey Chapter of the Sierra Club.

Cazenovia Cazenovia, NY As part of the "Seize the Power" Energy Fair at Drive Electric Earth Day in Cazenovia, NY about a dozen electric vehicle owners displayed their vehicles and spoke with dozens of interested attendees. People got to see first-hand what plug-in electric vehicles are. They got to talk one on one with electric vehicle owners about the many benefits of owning and driving EVs. Some also chose to take a ride with an owner and experience what riding in an electric vehicle is all about.
Ithaca Ithaca, NY It was a snowy and rainy DEED but people still came in small groups, a steady stream between 11:30 am and 2 pm. Our stellar EV Ambassadors proudly showcased their vehicles: Toyota Prius Prime, Tesla Model X, Tesla Model 3, and Chevy Volt. What's even better is that at least 3 EVs were sold!
Long Beach Long Beach, NY Electric Vehicle Ride-and-Drive: Vanderbilt Financial Group's Earth Week festivities concluded with an Electric Vehicle (EV) Ride-and-Drive as part of the City of Long Beach Earth Day event and in collaboration with the nationwide organization, Drive Electric Earth Week, and the Drive to Work NY initiative of CALStart. We had over 10 Electric Vehicles on display and available for a ride-alongs and test drives. Our offerings ranged across affordability to the most-technologically advanced to the luxurious. Owners and enthusiasts were on hand to discuss the benefits of having an electric vehicle and answer questions for those considering joining the EV movement! If you know our CEO Steve Distante, then you know how important driving fossil-free is to him (check out his Tesla fandom here: https://blog.joinvanderbilt.com/why-im-teslas-1-and/or-biggest-fan). We are so thankful to the EV community for joining us on a rainy day!
Penfield Penfield, NY Thank you to all that attended despite the 35 degree temperatures, wind, and wet snow. Each year our attendance increases. This year we were happy to also have members from the Tesla Owners Club New York State there with their cars. The fall Drive Electric Event is scheduled for September 14th at RIT.
Saratoga Springs Saratoga Springs, NY This was the first event my organization, Green Energy Consumers, did in Upstate New York. The foot traffic was great, but we could have benefited from additional planning time. The way the event was set up could have also been changed to better encourage participants to test drive. Overall, I'm happy with the event since it was our first one in the area, but expect major improvements going forward.
Skaneateles Skaneateles, NY Despite the cold and snow, about 75 people were in attendance, including interested public, volunteers, and EV owners. Our event featured 15 electric vehicles with 6 different vehicle models present, along with tabling information from HeatSmart CNY, Sustainable Skaneateles, Climate Change Awareness & Action, the Skaneateles Lake Association, and other local environmental groups. A number of attendees took advantage of ride-alongs to get a better feel for what it means to drive electric.
Syracuse Syracuse, NY Despite cold and windy weather, a large number of people on the SUNY ESF campus stopped and chatted with electric vehicle owners and learned all they could about the many advantages to driving electric.
Bexley Bexley, OH We were participating in the Green: Bexley Fair on invitation by Smart Columbus. We had an Electric Vehicle tailgate with a variety of vehicles . We also had an information table and a display about different plugs, adapters, and solar panels. Tesla brought 3 showroom vehicles, sent representatives to talk about them, and hold a ride & drive. Smart Columbus had arranged for other mobility programs to present at the event as well. Mayor Ben Kessler had his Bolt there towing a trailer full of trees for Arbor Day!
Blue Ash Blue Ash, OH We had a well-attended event, with lots of interest in learning more about EVs. Participants could try out one-pedal driving and experience the quiet, stable ride and instant acceleration that are characteristic of EVs. Ride and Drive was the highlight, with over 20 people taking a ride or a drive or both!
Columbus Columbus, OH We were participating in the Columbus Earth Day celebration on invitation by Smart Columbus. We had an Electric Vehicle tailgate with a variety of vehicles there in 4 hour shifts. We also had an information table and a display about different plugs, adapters, and solar panels. Tesla brought 3 showroom vehicles and sent representatives to talk about them. Smart Columbus had arranged for other mobility programs to present at the event as well, including COTA , CoGo, and MORPC.
Dayton Dayton, OH Big thanks to Jim Kelly and daughter Erin for organizing today’s EV Ride & Drive at Sinclair Automotive Center, a new location for Drive Electric Dayton, and to all the EV owner volunteers for their enthusiasm despite the cold and drizzle. We gave a number of visitors a ride and/or a drive in an EV or plug-in and answered their many questions. We were pleased to familiarize an Ohio State Representative with the joys of electric motoring!🚘
Wooster Wooster, OH Strong community support. Two companies talking about sustainable energy. Two nonprofits talking about sustainable living. Free trees from our local arboretum.
Yellow Springs Yellow Springs, OH Great day and great event! Lots of enthusiastic turn out and interested people.
Tulsa Tulsa, OK Tulsa's Drive Electric Earth Day was fantastic! We hosted about 10 vehicles, 2 of which were available for test drives, as part of our local Sierra Club chapter's large Earth Day event. Many members of the community came by to learn about available EVs and PHEVs and emerging technologies within the industry. We had a great turn out, and we look forward to having an even better one next year!
Bend Bend, OR Thank you all for braving the weather for a wonderful Earth Day Ride and Drive! We had a large crowd and Forth Mobility, The Environmental Center, Smolich Nissan, and the Bend EV club members were busy answering questions about electric vehicles for nearly the entire event. See you all in September for Drive Electric Week!
Newport Newport, OR Newport, Oregon, put together a fantastic Drive Electric Earth Day event that was well attended. Toyota of Newport cleared a portion of their sales lot so we could fill it with electric cars. Not only was there plenty of room for cars and people, but we had prime exposure to busy Highway 101. Central Lincoln PUD provided a free hamburger or hot dog for the first 200 participants from Phill's Smokn Grill set up onsite. Coastline Auto Detail featured a Tesla Model 3 that was newly ceramic coated along with a Toyota pickup in various stages of ceramic coating. One Tesla Model 3 showed his camping setup with a small refrigerator hooked up in the trunk along with a blender for smoothies. The festive event had 24 EVs, somewhat fewer than expected due to weather forecast but the rain held off for the show. Several EV ownes also dropped in during the show. We had the Electrica Meccanica Solo prototype, a new one-person EV. Tesla was well represented including the Tesla mobile service team. Display cars included the Chevy Bolt, Arcimoto, Kia Soul EV, Smart Electric, Nissan LEAF, Honda Clarity PHEV, and Prius Prime PHEV. People were able to drive the Chevy Bolt, Tesla Model 3, and Tesla Model X. Central Lincoln PUD and Coastline Auto Detail provided t-shirts for the drivers and vendors at the show. Oregon Beach Vacations donated a two-night stay at one of their properties and Coastline Auto Detail provided car care products as door prizes. We consistently heard participants say that they appreciated the knowledge and advice available on hand from the EV owners. We're certain some of these folks will be buying EVs in the near future. Our thanks for everyone's support to make this a successful event.
Allentown Allentown, PA Our spring Earth Day event was a more intimate event vs the spring event. We had an amazing indoor space hosted by Immaculate Paint Protection which allowed us to bring 3 cars inside their clean well-lit shop. We were able to have a BMW i3 charging on display as well as a new Nissan Leaf and Tesla Model X. Outside, we had a Jaguar I-PACE, Tesla's and Nissan Leaf's giving test rides. For Earth day, Immaculate Paint Protection demonstrated an eco-friendly waterless / rinse-less wash. This method uses significantly less water than regular washing and provides excellent results. A few test rides were given with the Tesla Model 3 on a pretty curvy section of road, fully done in Autopilot. This really impressed the passengers how the car could accurately control speed and steering through this challenging section of road with ease.
Ambler Ambler, PA We have been doing a drive electric event on Earth Day for years, and had asked NDEW to put our 2017 event on the map. We are so excited that they decided to do DEED nationally! Our event was a success we had over 30 EVs, lots of foot traffic and our vendors were very happy to help us get the word out about EV driving. Now more than ever we need to cut all carbon and methane emissions and the transportation sector is a good place for many people to start. We also talked about what one person can do in diet, choosing clean energy, eliminating air transportation and buying local.
Erie Erie, PA Unfortunately, the weather was damp and cold which hampered the DEED attendance. We did have nicer weather in the afternoon, for the Green Drive around the 15 miles of Presque Isle, State Park. The Green Drive was escorted by a Park Ranger who was riding a Zero EV Pursuit Motorcycle.
Slippery Rock Slippery Rock, PA Our event was held in conjunction with Slippery Rock University's EarthFest event, and was situated between the parking lot for the event, and the event itself. As such, there were many, many folks that walked though our EV car show with not a significant number stopping. Those that did, were genuinely interested and spent significant time talking with the owners and looking over the cars. It was an extremely windy day with gusts in the 30 mph range, which made it impossible to have the printed materials available. There was a considerable amount of fellowship among the owners sharing their EV experiences.
Charleston Charleston, SC I learned a lot. This was inspiring and fun. The connections were valuable. That's what participants said about Drive Electric Earth Day in Charleston SC. By the numbers 11 EV cars 4 EV motorcycles 4 EV bikes 1 EV scooters 1 EV ride share cart 7 info booths for profit, not for profit and government 1 artistry booth 6 speakers in our series 1 art exhibit entitled "12 Years"
Rapid City Rapid City, SD We had a diverse group of EV's at the DEED event this year, including ones from Chevrolet, Honda, Hyundai, Mitsubishi, Tesla, and Toyota. People were able to see the cars, ask actual owners and dealers about them, both their costs and benefits, and hopefully make some converts. We're already planning an even bigger and better event next year!
Kingsport Kingsport, TN Good event with many plugin cars available. A lot of interested people but it is hard to get the word out for a stand alone event.
Knoxville Knoxville, TN In Knoxville, our nonprofit (East TN Clean Fuels Coalition) always has a booth at Knoxville's EarthFest event. This year we simply added a DEED Ride-n-Drive, and worked with the event managers to grab some key space at the event to have road access. For a somewhat dreary day, it went great! We had 42 sign-ups for people who drove one of the EVs we had to drive, and several folks drove both! The Ride-n-Drive cars included two, 2019 Nissan Leafs and one 2018 smart fortwo. About ten volunteers made it possible and managed our booth, showed their EVs to attendees (Fiat 500e and two Teslas were the most viewed static EVs), and helped corral folks over to the Ride-n-Drive.
Memphis Memphis, TN Coordinated with the Shelby Farms Park"s Earth day celebration. Many people attended with EVs, and the crowd for the EVs was better than expected. The big draw was the Tesla Model 3, many of them and many people expressed interest. Good variety of EVs: Model 3 - 5 Model S - 2 Leaf - 2 I3 - 1 Fiat 500e -1 Volt - 1 Bolt - 1
Corpus Christi Corpus Christi, TX Great weather for the Earth Day Bay Day event. Likely around 10,000 plus people at the whole event. We had a red, white, and blue car under a tent that were always filled with people for the whole day. The kids and young people really like the high tech cars.
Dallas Dallas, TX The Dallas Drive Electric Earth Day event was a huge success! We've never partnered with another organization for previous Drive Electric Week events and this proved to be a benefit for us by teaming up with EarthX. This is the largest environmental event in the world (by some margin) and gave us the opportunity to see thousands of people every day and teach them about EVs. The event was three days and brought out students by the bus load on Friday and then the general public on Saturday and Sunday. EV owners/attendees were able to interact with the public and give them a chance to ask any questions they have as well as sit in their vehicles. Unfortunately, due to the large crowd size, which EarthX estimates at 175,000, driving vehicles around the Fair Park property was too challenging and we were only able to have static displays. Our #texasEV shirts were passed out to those who showed interest in the vehicles as well as other educational materials. A huge thanks goes out to our EV owners, the North Texas Tesla Owners Group, and the North Texas Electric Auto Association. This event would not be possible without their support and willingness to spend a weekend talking EVs with the public. The North Texas EV community is one of the most passionate out there and always shows up to educate folks about EVs!
Salt Lake City Salt Lake City, UT This was the inaugural event organized by the newly formed "Wasatch Electric Vehicle Association" to celebrate Hogle Zoo's (Salt Lake City, UT) "Party for the Planet." The event was supported by the Utah Tesla Club and other volunteers via the DEED 2019 site.
Blacksburg Blacksburg, VA There were 6 Tesla Model 3s, one AWD. There was a Tesla Model X, and 2 Tesla Model Ss, one AWD. There were 3 Chevrolet Bolt EVs. There was 1 Nissan LEAF II (150-miles range). There was 1 Ford Focus Electric. Due to limited parking spaces we could not invite any PHEVs. We had the BEV Show from 11 AM to 2 PM at the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center in the parking lot where 2 food trucks serve lunches to researchers and staff. A photographer/reporter for The Roanoke Times came and took many pictures and talked to several of the BEV drivers. One Tesla Model 3 had recently been bought used in Seattle Washington and driven across the U.S. to southwest Virginia by the wife of the couple who bought it. One Chevrolet Bolt EV was driven from Louisa County Virginia, a distance of 200 miles, to be in the Show. The driver of the Nissan LEAF II lives in an apartment house with no charging station in Roanoke VA, about 45 miles away. He CHAdeMO charges it at no cost about once a week at First Team Nissan where he bought the LEAF. The Tesla Model X performed the Model-X Dance (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbWci_LPW6g)
Halifax Halifax, VA For the first time, electric vehilces were shown at the farmers market in rural Halifax Virginia. EVs came from Harrisonburg VA (3 hours) and from Portsmouth VA (3 hours) to showcase technologies.
Richmond Richmond, VA Our first DEED event was a partnership with the Henrico County Energy Fair, which we have participated in for several years. We had a display of 11 electric vehicles from owners and a Model X from Tesla Richmond. Most of the owners were willing to offer rides in their cars, plus Hart Nissan of Mechanicsville did test drives in the 2018 LEAF. In addition, we had our EV Experience exhibit to offer unbiased, authoritative information to attendees and remote-controlled cars for children todo their own “test drives.”
Richmond Richmond, VA Va. Union Univ. students were excited about the EVs that were on display. They sat in them and played with the touch screen. They asked questions. They were amazed when the Tesla Model S was moved in Summon mode w/o a driver being in the car. Several expressed interest in obtaining an EV in the future.
Richmond Richmond, VA Our second DEED event was very well attended. The Party for the Planet was RIchmond’s primary celebration of Earth Day, drawing thousands of people and more than 120 attendees to our EV display. We had a 2018 Nissan LEAF, Chevy Bolt, Tesla Model 3 and Zero Motorcycle on display, sharing space with the Virginia Sierra Club and Virginia Clean Cities.
Staunton Staunton, VA We were thrilled to be part of the festival - the largest Earth Day celebration Staunton has ever had with over 40 different exhibits and over 500 attendees. The weather cooperated and folks had the opportunity to see a variety of all-battery and plug-in hybrid production vehicles.
Vienna Vienna, VA We started to load cars around 18:00, with 4 Model 三 showing up before any of the other cars could. The Model Xs we had scheduled weren't able to come because all the space was taken up, mostly by Models 三. We originally had space for 14 cars but crammed in 2 more. But, despite the problems, the event was a tremendous success. This was the first time the Electric Car group had been back at the newly renovated Vienna Community Center since it closed 3 years ago and this year we had the biggest EV Display ever. We had great fun telling people about the virtues of electric cars. Co-Captain Bob was great at promoting us too, and putting up signs, directing folks to our display. All in all, a very successful inaugural year for our DEEDs event, the first of many, many to come as we expand as best we can.
Bellevue Bellevue, WA The EV display was sub-section of the Lake Hills Neighborhood Association's Earth Day observance in Bellevue, WA. The EV display was located in front of the plaza parking lot entrance to the King County Library System's Lake Hills Branch which is located in the SE corner of the Lake Hills Village neighborhood shopping center. One of the EVs which was on display was a Model 3 whose owner had driven it all the way from Yelm, WA (65 miles) to participate in this Drive Electric Earth Day event. The EV display was limited to 4 vehicles, but the Association was so excited to have 5 EVs show up that they made special arrangements to include the EV which had not been registered for display. The plaza parking lot was busy the entire time with a noticeable number of people arriving in LEAFs and Teslas. The relatively intimate nature of the event allowed more time for the EV drivers to talk with the individuals who stopped to ask questions as well as share early adopter EV war stories with one another. One of the general public who stopped by was from Tasmania, Australia. A mother who drives several pre-schoolers to school and home was most interested to learn about the Dodge Caravan plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV). An owner of a Hyundai Clarity PHEV was excited to learn of the various opportunities to interact with other EV owners via Seattle area EV blogs, Facebook EV groups and the Seattle Electric Vehicle Association's monthly meetings. Another EV display activity which received a round of applause at the end, was a demonstration of the Tesla Model X's ability to perform to music -- always a crowd pleaser.
Bellevue Bellevue, WA More than a hundred Bellevue College students, faculty and staff passed by our EVs display every hour in Bellevue College’s courtyard in front of the Student Union Building. It was a balmy, partly sunny spring day in the “rainy” Seattle area. This allowed many of those passing by to stop to talk with the Seattle Electric Vehicle Association drivers who had volunteered to show their EVs again this year as part of Bellevue College’s annual Earth Day observance. No one was hurrying to get out of the rain. Particularly enjoyable was the enthusiasm for EVs which students displayed when they learned about the fact that electric motors utilize energy three to four times more efficiently than do the internal combustion engines in their current cars. They were surprised to learn their car’s engine spews 66 cents worth of the carbon fuel’s energy out the tailpipe for every $1.00 worth of gas they pump into the tank. The looks on their faces when an EV driver would show the students that the EV did not even have a tailpipe was worth the price of admission. We had a interesting range of 17 various EV models on display. The only repetition was two Tesla Model 3s and two Mitsubishi i-MiEVs on display. The EVs on display represented a combined total of more than 1/2 million electric miles driven and about 65 metric tons annually of CO2 which will not be generated by these vehicles and in turn, not pollute the air which the EV drivers, their families, their neighbors and all living beings across the Northwest breath. In addition, no public funds will be needed to remove the CO2 which their EVs will not generate in the first place – not to mention the $s which remain in an EV drivers pocket. This is because they will not be sending 90 cents of every dollar spent on gasoline out of the local economy to the multi-national oil companies while only needing to spend less than $3.00 for electricity to drive 100 miles.

Friday Harbor Friday Harbor, WA We decided to host an Electric Island Tour for our DEED event. A parade of Vehicles stopping at various pre-planned locations in order to bring EVs to the people rather than the people to our EVs. We stopped at 4 high traffic areas on San Juan Island and took photos. Each of these locations also are wanting to add electric vehicle charging infrastructure to their destination. These stops show the needed demand for said investment.
Kennewick Kennewick, WA The event was featured on the local nightly news (Channel KVEW-42, ABC affiliate). More than 20 EV drivers supported the event by describing their vehicles, answering questions and offering rides or even test-drives to those interested. The support was overwhelming by the local EV drivers, but even more impressive was the interest from the public. Several people came out specifically for the opportunity to learn more about what models were available and talk to EV drivers before making their first EV purchase.
Olympia Olympia, WA This event was held in conjunction with the South Sound Climate Action Convention, so we had an attendance of about 350 people, but most were fully engaged in the conference. There was one session on EVs, which let out onto our DEED event. Of the total parking for the convention, about 15% were EVs and PHEVs. Nearly all were attending the convention; very few came just for the DEED event. We had about 5 unregistered cars. We marked the parking area for "EV Parking" and conference attendees with plug-in cars who were NOT registered for DEED dutifully followed the signs. This included State Representative Beth Doglio, who just drove her Leaf into our area, looked around for about 10 minutes, then went in to give a keynote address. We had miserable wet windy weather, which dampened our spirit. People did not gather in the EV area; they went inside where it was warm, and there were cookies.
Spokane Valley Spokane Valley, WA Despite the very rain day we hand great EV conversation's both under the canopy and in the cars, thank you everybody for showing up. Sorry about the weather. The rainiest day to date.
Greenfield Greenfield, WI 52 on the 54th! As we celebrated Earth Day on Saturday with the Drive Electric Earth Day event, we had 52 attendees for the 54th Meet of Drive $mart Wisconsin. We had 9 Tesla's, 4 Volt's, 2 Leaf's, 2 Bolts, 1 BMW i3 and a Fiat 500e for the DEED event and numerous other PHEV's and hybrids from our D$W crew. We split the Meet into talking about the 50 Tools for a Lifetime techniques as part of $mart Driving training and then followed with an open discussion of EV's. We were fortunate to have Tesla Software engineer Garlan Garner (in his beautiful white Tesla Model 3) and Tom Content, Executive Director of CUB (Citizens Utility Board) talking about Tesla technology and the WI. PSC interest in expanding/improving EV charging across the state respectively. All D$W members in attendance shared their experiences using the Tools for a Lifetime segment and many EV owners loved to hear about extending their range with these $mart Tools. During a working lunch, everyone contributed to the EV discussion segment, sharing knowledge and expertise. Wonderful D$W/DEED Meet, informed education, sweet rides but it's always about the people...great people. Thanks to Marie, Justin, Teng, Ben and Garlan for taking ownership in this D$W/DEED Meet.
Huntington Huntington, WV Held on the campus of Marshall University, the DEED event was a hit at the Earth Day celebration at Marshall. The prime location in front of the Marshall Student Center The eight EV owners attending were busy during the entire event explaining and showing their cars to owners. In addition, one car dealer offered rides in a Plug-in Hybrid Chrysler mini-van from a driveway a few feet from the display cars.
Edmonton Edmonton, AB The Electric Vehicle Association of Alberta was pleased to participate in Drive Electric Earth Day at one of the few events happening in Alberta in recognition of Earth Day. The Edmonton Valley Zoo offered prime space beside their main entrance to showcase a Tesla Model 3, Tesla Model X and Jaguar i-Pace. Over 4000 people attended their Easter/Earth Day 'Eggstravagansa' event and we were kept busy by patrons wanting to check out these electric cars. Most of them had never seen one in person before. CTV news was on hand to cover the Zoo's event and also did a separate story on our involvement. Andrew Bell - Director / Electric Vehicle Association of Alberta
Victoria Victoria, BC The Carbon-free Carpool, Shuttle service and Potluck Food deliveries covered 7,394 emissions-free person kms of travel over the four hours of the event. This translates to about 3600 carbon-free vehicle kilometres or about .85 metric tons of CO2 emissions avoided! I'm glad I decide to create a spreadsheet to manage the connections in real time!! Our volunteer drivers were enthusiastic and flexible, coping well with much welcome rain and the last minute changes in the schedule of events. We are still hearing from the wedding attendees whose travel was provided for by our EVs and to a person, it worked out better for them than they expected! We've been asked to offer this service for future events. Many volunteer drivers expressed gratitude for the chance to be part of this national reported event and asked to be included in similar actions in the future. Below is a link to one national TV report that shows part of our assembled fleet in action. https://globalnews.ca/video/5192607/green-party-leader-elizabeth-may-weds-on-earth-day
Kitchener Kitchener, ON We had people come to the event intent on learning more about EVs, our attendees with EVs were happy to explain and show real life examples.
Windsor Windsor, ON Great to see families enjoy Earth Day festivities and join us at the EV display as well. We have had some return visiters come again this year and we have had confirmation that at least one visitor from previous Earth Day EV show is now an owner of an EV because of our efforts.
Regina Regina, SK Drive Electric Earth Day Regina was a success. This was the first event that the Saskatchewan Electric Vehicle Association has hosted as an official group. We had several Regina City Councillors as well as officials from SaskPower who drove a company EV to the event. This event had significant interest from the general public with a lot of foot traffic and passers-by. We did over a hundred test rides! This was made possible with a group of dedicated local EV owners giving test rides and some enthusiastic dealer salespeople representing the latest EV offerings. The Saskatchewan Science Centre hosted our event and it was the perfect venue. They had Earth Day related programming running throughout the day with a park for children, large parking lot and dinner facilities on site. We plan on making this an annual event and will be back for next spring with a bigger and better event!
Saskatoon Saskatoon, SK Great to have a large number of models, dealer support and enthusiastic volunteers to show their electric vehicles.
Whangarei Whangarei, New Zealand Good turnout, despite the day being a public holiday (ANZAC Day) with many people attending commemorations in the morning. Definitely more genuine interest by the public and less naysaying compared to earlier years. A true highlight was the display of a fully electric campervan.
Queretaro City Queretaro City, Mexico Thank you for the attendees, the first ever event held in Queretaro City marks a milestone for future events. What we learn from this event, will be applied to the one on september 2019 for the National Drive-Electric Week. Keep an eye on us!
