Event Report

The promotional title, GASLESS IN SHELBURNE FALLS, was negative, but our working title was positive: Change is Coming.

The event featured a COVID-careful static display of battery electric passenger cars, from a 2007 ZENN to a 2022 VW ID.4   A battery electric riding lawn mower and e-bicycles, provided attendees, young and old, the opportunity to drive electric.  Inclusion of the e-mower facilitated conversations about the negative impacts of gas mowers. (https://www.cfet.org/cleaner-air-the-environmental-impacts-of-gas-lawn-mowers/)  We also displayed battery electric hand tools.  Exhibitors provided information about residential photovoltaic solar and low-carbon/passive solar home construction, both of which complement EV ownership.

A fledgling antique business provided a large grassy display area and 150'  tent, along the most scenic highway in the state.  We partnered with Baystate Bike Month and the National Solar Tour in order to promote their messages and amplify ours.

State Representative Natalie Blais arrived in her Tesla Model 3, and the owners of EDDIE'S WHEELS, who help animals who have lost the use of their front or hind legs to regain mobility, brought two happy dogs to spread the love.

BEST QUOTE FROM AN EV OWNER   When asked about the risk of being stranded without a place to charge: "All EVs can be charged from a standard electric outlet. There are less than 200,000 gas stations and more than 5 billion standard outlets in America."

The dedicated owner of this 2007 ZENN drove 70+ miles from Albany and back on 35 MPH roads on the day of the event. Manufactured in France and purchased in Canada, it operates reliably on lead-acid batteries and drew a lot of attention for EV technology that is accessible to an everyday person.
