UCLA Smart Grid Energy Research Center -Dr Rajit Gahd, PHD

Dr. Rajit Gadh is Professor of Samueli School of Engineering at UCLA and Director of the Smart Grid Energy Research Center.  His research interests are smart- and micro- grid technologies, electric vehicle (EV) to grid integration, autonomous vehicles, and renewable energy and battery energy storage.  He is also co-founder of MOEV, a startup spun out of UCLA that develops Artificial Intelligence based machine learning software for managing electric vehicle fleet charging infrastructure.

His presentation will cover recent advances in medium and heavy duty EVs including delivery trucks, school buses and transit buses, and delivery vans, and his talk will focus on related opportunities and challenges as follows: (i) how driving range and speed of charging is increasing rapidly with battery innovation, (ii) rapid advances in speed of charging from 50kW to 100s of kilowatts and approaching megawatt charging, and, (iii) vehicle to grid (V2G) technology that enables an EV such as a school bus to return power to the grid when needed thus increasing grid resilience.  With the rapid increase in battery size of EVs, their electric power needs will stress the power lines of the electric grid as well that of the fleet operator's electric infrastructure.  Dr. Gadh will present advanced charging technologies, software and algorithms that are being deployed to help reduce these two stresses.

                                                                            Audience Questions and answers

We  discussed the great options available now in Electrified Transportation, what is coming in the future, and what we should do to stay on the best course.

Event Description

South Coast Air Quality Management District will host the webinar again this year and will cover some of their programs, such as school busses and commercial trucks.

SCAQMD will have an update on the Replace your ride Program, where you can apply for funding for a new car if your car has smog issues, The Electric School Bus initiative(cleaner air for students and everyone, hopefully fewer parents driving to school twice a day), The Moyer Program, and the class 8 Large Trucks.

We will discuss the great options available now in Electrified Transportation, what is coming in the future, and what we should do to stay on the best course.

EVAOSC will have several other Presenters:
