Event Report

Our second Ride & Drive at Madonna Inn had a good turnout, with lots of folks test driving and riding a variety of electric cars and bikes. Nissan, Honda, Chevy and Ford dealers were on hand with cars to drive, while enthusiastic EV owners showed and offered rides in several models of Tesla, a Kia Niro, a Nissan Leaf, and a Chevy Volt. Two local bicycle shops displayed the latest in e-bike technology, from lightweight road cycles to workhorse cargo bikes. The highlight of the day was e-bike dealer Boltabout's presentation of a custom electric-assist cargo bike to Mayor Heidi Harmon. Mayor Harmon then spoke to the crowd about the City's goal of carbon neutrality by 2035 and the key role that vehicle electrification, in all its forms, needs to play in achieving that goal. The event was co-sponsored by the San Luis Obispo Climate Coalition and the local chapter of the Sierra Club with support from the City of San Luis Obispo, PG&E, ECOSLO, Wally's Bike Shop, Boltabout, Sunset Honda, Alfano Motors, Coast Nissan, and Mullahey Ford.
